Thanks, that was awesome! One thing they should definitely implement with Freeze Panes is that they don't affect Slicers. I use them all the times for my tables (and not only pivot tables) and it's a pain I can't Freeze views anymore because of that.

@@ExcelCampus I know that but how many other people don’t? It’s not an intuitive thing to do as you would assume - like adding a filter or re-adjusting the width of a cell. I bet they actually made use of people’s Google Search data to come up with this feature. Good job MS lol 👍🏾

Nice additions. One thing to note is that Ctrl + Shft+ V works throughout Microsoft as “paste values only”. For example if you’re pasting from the web or another software into something like Word, the formatting will match what you have in word, and not the source you copied from.

@jackcurl20052 ай бұрын
Generally good stuff. I especially like the visual drag/drop column destination indicators. A line tells a whole lot more than a box. (I don't use the web version, at least not for my stuff, because I have a lot of VBA post-processing support.) On AutoFill series, I wish Excel would alter its behavior in a filtered table. If filtered, your only autofill option is copy. If it could figure out I'm filling over a contiguous area of rows, that should be good. I've never used Sheet Views. I can see their value for reporting. Seems like it's essentially a virtual sheet, much like a SQL View is a virtual table. Good stuff as usual, Jon. While not everything you present is necessarily new to me (25?-year Excel veteran who is always striving for greater efficiency), you present everything clearly and concisely in a very understandable way for everybody. For what I might happen to "know" already, it's always good for a reminder or to be reminded I'm not a complete idiot. Thanks!

Thanks for the nice feedback, Jack! 🙏 I agree that improvements to AutoFill would be nice. And appreciate all your suggestions and support. Thanks again and have a nice day! 🙂

Good news, Mark! The new checkboxes feature does exist on desktop. It's currently rolling out to the Monthly channel for Microsoft 365 accounts. Here's a video I did on it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jnLIh6yDp6aBpNksi=BbkA2A6fyYqGbKOb Note that the ghosting feature I show in that video is no longer available. Microsoft changed the behavior to make it more intuitive and user friendly. I hope that helps. Thanks! 🙂

Leaving a note about my experience with the things mentioned in this video. I have a business standard 365 account, and I do not have the insert row/column bubbles (either side of 6 dots) nor the freeze panes blue line capability. All the other things mentioned are available for me. Just mentioning this if others are in the same boat. Rest assured they will be there, but as of today that is what I’m showing.

So what happens if you create a sheet with a function that’s only available online but the user is in desktop mode?
@ronestes6672 ай бұрын
Is there a specific function you are wondering about? Aside from macros, I can’t think of a function that would be a problem from web to desktop. One thing from this video specifically to note is the date picker. Although not a function, excel will not show a date picker in the desktop version, you’ll still have to type the date (or use Ctrl + ; for today’s date), but all formulas and functions referencing that date will work the same.
@ExcelCampus2 ай бұрын
Great question! With formulas or functions that are not available on a user's desktop version yet, the formula will return an error when it is recalculated. As long as you don't recalculate, the formula should show the result that was last calculated before the workbook was saved. So it's best to use functions that you know will still be available on all versions of Excel that you will be sharing the file with. That's why I'm still a proponent of learning functions like VLOOKUP, even though XLOOKUP replaces it. There's a really good chance you will come across VLOOKUPs in your work, and/or have to use them in these compatibility scenarios. Here's a video I have on that topic. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYKkmYOIeKadd5o As Ron mentioned, the features shared in this video won't really suffer from compatibility issues, but there are definitely features that will. The new checkboxes feature is one that comes to mind (my video on checkboxes kzbin.info/www/bejne/jnLIh6yDp6aBpNk). It's slowly rolling out to the current channel on desktop, but will be awhile before it roles out to other channels. I hope that helps. Thanks again and have a nice day! 🙂

@@ExcelCampus I did initially think of checkboxes but did not mention them since I didn't have a option on my machine. I do know that checkboxes from Google Sheets do not show up in Excel, but just couldn't be sure how Microsoft would handle it. Because of this comment I fired up the machine and I DO have insert>checkboxes on my desktop version but I do not have it on the online version. I thought that was a bit odd. I have verified that creating a list with checkboxes on the desktop version using the insert method does not transfer to the online version. Pointing this out specifically because normally the general rule of thumb with these roll-outs have been online first and then desktop. Either way, I am excited to FINALLY have the capability to insert checkboxes on the desktop version as that is what I use anyway. Thanks John or John's proxy!
