The only gold around here is whatever glacial till dropped during the last glacial maximum so it’s rare but there is some to be found. When I was a kid I found a piece the size of a grain of rice and I thought I was going to be rich. I didn’t find anymore gold with my toy panning kit.

Being from the UK, gold rush, panning, pay dirt and claims are all fairytale for me. What I am wondering is, is this pay dirt stuff just bought for the thrill of the finding out, rather than getting money back? I gather it's all just gold added to dirt for them to guarantee certain amounts and the chances of ever finding anything substantial being very slim??? It all really interests me, and your explanations of different things you do are brilliant, I just wish there were places unowned here that you could freely go to pan (if there are, someone please share 🤣)

Yeah, paydirt is like any other product. You're paying for the experience of panning through the material. Why not just add gold to dirt from your garden to save money? Well, technically you can, but 99% sure your garden is just organic topsoil that isn't natural gold mining concentrates from a gold bearing area. If it is, then you can still buy paydirt from different mining areas, such as material with lots of magnetic black sand, or crushed quartz, red iron material from Australia or Arizona, crushed bedrock from colorado bedrock crevices etc. Anyway, hope I got the point across and sorry for rambling. I could talk about dirt for days. By the way, yes there are places in the UK to pan for gold legally - check my "world travel" playlist for my videos in the UK for all the info..
