I remember this conversation bxn Schnabel, Rose and #DavidBowie. Bowie blew away the side with his evolved acumen. He was also the ultimate philosopher and politician. I think God will give him a pass. (vitas brevis. ars longa.)

+BKLTD USA I think God will be well pleased he referenced the crucifixion in his last video Blackstar. It is the fact that he was often wrangling with religion and shaking and moving the references not taking it for granted-that I think was very like the Jewish scholars throughout history- questioning all the time.

+BKLTD USA I don't remember this, and I have watched Charlie Rose since I was a kid, and love Bowie. Schnabel comes off like a putz. It is hard to be taken seriously in this forum when you look like you dressed for a late 70's porn shoot. I love how Bowie not only lets Schnabel bum a cigarette, but hands him the lighter first. I am sure he would have lit it for him if they were close enough. I know Schnabel is supposed to be a genius, about that I don't have enough information. About Bowie, I am absolutely positive.

+The Oracle Never heard of the geezer. I actually took offense at him interrupting Bowie after 18 fucking seconds !!!

+nostaligicangel - Very much like the mystics of Hindu and Buddhist schools. Much like the millions of seekers and finders today. It's an exciting time of Eastern Religions integrating with American psychotherapeutic, artistic and spiritual knowledge. At least that I know. David Bowie practiced Tibetan Buddhism in the 60s and 70s and always supported the disposed Tibetans and Buddhism. That's why he asked he instructed his remains to rest in Bali in accordance with Buddhist traditions.

Lady Black Stardust- Ah yes I agree that perhaps David, like a lot of us that ask the big questions about life, and this side of the tapestry- was more attracted to mysticism - rather than dogma, as dogma is much more about power and control. Great talking to you about such matters.

And David immediately takes one too, then has to stuff around patting his pockets for his lighter

Im sorry, but Julian comes of as insufferably pretentious here..nothing against the man but he does..David, as always is low key, warm and charming.

bawoman Oh thank you. Does Pop art seem self indulgent to you, in that it generates it's own microcosm of self import?

+bawoman The critic Robert Hughes did a hilarious take-down of Schnabel in his collected essays, 'Nothing If Not Critical.'
