Bowie's blistering sarcasm is legendary. I met him a few times, once at a NYC club where he was casually smoking a the bar. Some girl next to me tried to light up and security said "you can't smoke here" and the girl pointed to Bowie and said "but he's smoking!" (obviously this girl lived under a rock or something) and Bowie quickly responded "Rock god, fringe benefits"

I always thought Bowie was interesting, but never really listened to his work other than the hits, than one day I found myself in a rather tough spot and I wasn't working, so I had a lot of time on my hands and I just started listening to Bowie. John Lennon helped him--especially with dealing with the hateful side of fame (and why they wrote that song "Fame" together). They were friends. Bowie was the one who went to comfort Yoko when John was murdered. THAT info made me cry. Yes, I remember the exact moment when I heard about John, and also when I heard about Bowie. I had the great honor to have seen Bowie's "comeback" concert in 1983 (5 years off due to cocaine) at the US Festival--I went to see him specifically, wasn't sure what to expect. It turned out to be one of the highlights of my life, thankfully "Heroes" & the entire concert is on YT kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4rciH6ufZt9ia8 Oddly enough the reason I watched this video is because "Ghost Town" is one of my all time favorite movies (the only previous exposure I had to RG) so I was quite curious to find out about this friendship--it turned out to be an amazing gem!

It's because we have to live in the desperation of not having a democracy. If you like, you can have the Queen, and then you'll be funny too. 😑

If Bowie didn't have a life as the greatest rock artist, he could have done very well in comedy. Simply brilliant.

What a wonderful thing to stumble upon, when KZbin is usually a cesspit of everything that is terrible in the world, there is this. I miss Bowie. Not just his music and acting but how he made people feel. There isn't anyone quite like him. Just wished he was around for a bit longer

Bowie's deluded celebrity who thinks he's funny in the Extras BTS is one of my favourite comic performances I have ever watched. Merchant and Gervais have him a role where he was hilarious, and he then tops it in the DVD extras.

I know Bowie turned up in Montreaux Switzerland and Queen invited him to their studio and the rest is history. Imagine being in that legendary studio with Bowie and Freddie in the same room? Roger I’m sure had a few Roger quips in but I understand Freddie really admired Bowie. They’re having Freddie birthday party there this coming September. Be there for the celebration 40 years since the release of The Works in 1984.

I met him on the subway one evening. He was holding a small green ukulele and was balancing a tambourine between his knees. He was listening in on everyone's conversations. When someone said something be thought was idiotic, he'd do a little song with those words as lyrics. How we all laughed at those people. Living on Mars was very boring at the time, just rocks and sand and not much to do, so it cheered us all up. True story, definitely happened.

Love this. Met DB once, a long time ago, at my work, he was the most lovely and sweet man and you would think he would be tired and perhaps a bit annoyed after travelling a lot(this was when he was on tour) But no,couldn't be more of a gentleman than David Bowie. He is missed so badly, and when I think of that there will never be any new music from him ever again, it makes me so freakin sad. He was one of A kind!
