Excited Gorillas Squabble While The Silverback is Away | The Shabani Group

This video takes place on the same day as the previous one.
On this day, Shabani, a silverback gorilla, did not come out of the basement at breakfast time.
His son, Kiyomasa went outside to get food or went down to check on his father Shabani in the basement.
So there were several times when only the female gorillas were in the room above ground.
I focused this time on the female gorillas while Shabani, the commander, was away.
While Shabani was away, Ai, the female, did a good job.
When Nene and Annie were Squabbling in the ground room, Ai was showing off to Annie and stopping her from messing around with Nene. She also looked out for Shabani in the basement.
Ai plays an important role in Shabani's group.

Nene was born wild in Cameroon.
The other three were born in the Higashiyama Zoo in Japan.

@@infinitejest441 Nene attacked her when Annie was first reunited with the family as a baby. Shabani has had to protect her ever since she was little and Ai has showed little interest in raising her. I think dad and daughter are so close because of it... and Annie can't help but poke the bear every once in a while to mess with Nene. :D

I think all Annie has ever wanted was to be accepted by Nene and never has. Nene didn’t like having another baby to take away some of the attention from Shabani for Kiyo, but Kiyo and her are really close so that didn’t matter. If nene would just treat her better Annie would love her.

Maybe he’s getting training for something. At his age, cardio issues are a risk, many zoos do cardio ultrasounds…as all zoos should do. Hoping too it’s nothing serious.

Reading through the comments it sounds like Nene use to beat Annie as a baby and AI was an apathetic mother to her. Shabani appears to be the one that has raised Annie and really her only protector outside of her brother.

Annie only treats Nene this way, not any of the other gorillas. She remembers how Nene treated her, she knows she’s never been accepted. I don’t blame her for giving it back to Nene. Nene attacked her when she was a baby and couldn’t defend herself, now the reverse is happening.
