Silverback Gorilla Refuses To Lead His Group | The Shabani Group

It was a chilly day with rain in the morning.
Shabani, the silverback gorilla, did not come up from the basement at breakfast time.
The other gorillas had already come up from the basement, but since Shabani did not come, they were not sure what to do.
Ai and Annie, the female gorillas, were very worried about Shabani who did not come up from the basement.
After a while, Shabani came up to the ground, but after about 5 to 10 minutes, he went down to the basement again.
There did not seem to be any particular fight between him and his son Kiyomasa.
Before lunch, he came up from the basement again, and his son Kiyomasa seemed to be protesting something against him.
He looked like he was saying, "Dad, lead the group properly! "
After lunch, Shabani continued to spend time alone.
I guess everyone has times when they don't want to do anything, but was that the case with Shabani?

Nene was born wild in Cameroon.
The other three were born in the Higashiyama Zoo in Japan.

Shabani is just having an off-day, maybe having memories of being a young gorilla playing with his brother Hako and missing his old family…he’ll be back to normal on the next sunny beautiful day, hopefully!!

Even a Silverback can have an off day. Maybe he wasn’t feeling good. I do notice if one of them do that the rest become concerned or annoyed. Junior is a handful an despite his size he’s quite immature. Shabani has his hands full with this family dynamics

I'm not sure if there was an incident that occurred the night before, or maybe Shabani & Nene have back pain. Walking & sleeping on concrete floors is not good for their backs. The zoo should provide blankets like the other zoo did for the Momotaro family. If money is an issue, they could always ask the public to donate blankets.

Sometimes you are just tired of being in charge....need a break 💔. Shabani has feelings as well. The weather is a downer as well. He does not like the rain. So slowing down for the day!!

Every time I have it clearer. Women prefer Kyo as a leader Annie I doubt it, she's smarter. I hate how they leave Shabani aside They don't seem to understand it. Clearly he and Kyo got angry. - If Uncle Haoko was there, you would be scared, Kyo - Like the females That gorilla wouldn't tolerate that nonsense

Shabani's troop never respected him (except Annie). Maybe the troop sees Shabani's kindness & playfulness as a weakness. This troop wouldn't be happy under Haoko's leadership.

You don't know that haoko is not a bad leader at all. The only really disciplines would you know this is something wrong? He was very gentle and kind of sides that there are many other gorillas who have a actual aggressive attitude for adorable things that they see as it issue. There's the difference between. When he is disciplined, then everything besides that and haoko is a good leader

Shabani needs to stamp his authority to them all more often they are like a group of kids all fun and laughter but that is also how respect gets lost and Kiyo will start to try to verse him and his position in the troop now that he is older and Shabani knows it.

Unfortunately kyomasa is going to challenge shabani no matter what. It's just how it goes. Hopefully the zoo will move him before things get bad, like with momo and gentaro.

Shabani is a great leader really! He was raised in a large family with mom and dad and lots of siblings therefore he learned how to the care of a big family and he learned how to be flexibly and not using violence in order to compromise sometimes!
