TAAG Angola has taken delivery of its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Meanwhile, Delta has announced a new route to Melbourne, Australia, and Icelandair is expanding its network, focusing on the United States and utilising its A321LR.

TAAG is the latest African airliner to operate a 787 Dreamliner. Ethiopian, Royal Air Maroc (Morocco), Kenyan Airways and EgyptAir are the other known carriers.

But if you look at it rationally for economy class travellers it makes very little difference Only those used to higher premium travel will notice the difference 😅

@@ricky1231 Lol it seems like you are not looking it rationally. This isn't about travelling in economy or premium economy. This is about the psychological well being of the passengers. Ask any person would they travel 9 hrs in a narrow body or a wide body, You'll get your answer.

I have flown long haul dozens of time in all classes and many a'lines; Delta Coach for 15 hrs, or a single aisle plane in any class for 10 hrs are not flights I would look forward to

Then don’t? These services are for underserved communities that don’t have the resources or capacity for a wide body. Also, direct flights are more geared towards wealthy travelers and businesses that fill the more premium cabins.

@@bostonbugni Thats not why they are getting the XLR, its to replace their mid-widebodies for long haul travel, to maximise load factor and to cut costs.

Would Icelandair ever fly to MCI or STL? I mean STL had WOW and that was successful if I recall so why not Icelandair jump on with an A321LR/XLR?

Probably not. They would first want to capitalize off the west coast, adding SFO and LAX, maybe San Diego. Then they might expand the southern network-MCY, DFW, IAH, ATL, AUS, LAS, PHX. The chances that STL, a regional-non international, basically relying on, like the “German” population for LH, for example, so the chances are low. MCI has more chances of customer demand but also, not really an international airport. You would really just layover in SLC or MSP/ORD- they all have KEF nonstop.

@ eh, that’s what they were saying when the route started. It’s not about the population it’s the demand. Frankfurt was the second most traveled to European city (first was London) back in 2021. Now they are #1 with almost 200,000 passengers from July 2023-June 2024. I don’t know what WOW Air was but from what I heard it had good ridership. They have a large Italian and Irish population there and don’t have ITA or Aer Lingus. Though they do have Bayer which is one of the reasons Lufthansa came there. It’s demand that’s the key. Same thing with MCI but they haven’t had European service in a while so idk how they’d do

@ I mean, it’s the “Irish” or “German/ Italian” population that channels demand not directly to FRA but to FCO or DUB via FRA. I recently traveled to FCO from MSP via FRA on LH. It’s not pure demand for FRA. It’s the Irish and Italian roots that cause demand

@ with MCI, lacking any European routes, can stop over in ORD or MSP, since they could have nonstop to even MSP and nonstop to DUB with Aer Lingus or Delta to AMS, CDG, LHR, FCO, LH to FRA, and possibly Turkish to IST.

@ it’s not really the population. It helps but it isn’t everything. Milwaukee has the most German population in the USA but doesn’t have LH. It is mostly demand and STL clearly has it for Iceland
