Dear Viral Machinery, Has anyone ever tested the intracacies strength between machine made strap repairs and human made strap repairs? Not picking on us humans but do see where might be compromised big word here is might with nicks, dents, bends and variants by human hand. It's more than a tough job manually. I'm only curious for safety sake that something unforseen may occur. We appreciate what any laborer does from heavy to light machinery and beyond for the betterment of society. Thank you. Bit late here bit ill add my limited knowledge of this from when I was doing it. A mechanical splice using an aluminum talurit was about 90% strength of the the cables safe working load. A hand splice was roughly about 80%. The biggest factor is the disturbance in the lay of the rope on either side of the splice. The more uniform the strands and the less disturbance the stronger it is (generally speaking). Very rarely do you see the wire rope fail in the eye,it's normally either side of the splice

Most of that is cable swaging. There is some splicing. I worked on a project once where we had a cable that had to be proof tested to a million pounds. It passed and it was tiny compared to the one at the beginning of the video. How many million pounds for that one?
