Why they punctually forget to mention the GTV6 2.5, which, in the 80s, won in its second division four consecutive European Touring Car chanpionships? (including an absolute, against cars like the Rover Vitesse, the BMW 635 and the Volvo Turbo). Earlier than that, the Alfetta GTV 2.0 won 1 ETCC in its division too. Designed by Giugiaro in 70's, the REAL, rear wheeled powered, transaxle, Alfa Romeo till its last sold/produced around 1986.

Self-anointed connoisseurs turn their noses up at the GTV6. Guys like Keith Martin at Sports Car Market magazine openly despise the transaxle cars. The only exception is Jeremy Clarkson who obviously has forgotten more about cars than they’ll ever know. Funny, because while the Giulias and Spiders are nice cars the Transaxle cars do everything better than they do except they shift more like an in-period Porsche 911. The GTV6 has looks, racing provenance, and a great engine. Sometimes I think they’re hated because it’s the car before Fiat took over. So they blame it somehow.
