I recently learned that some of my disks fell victim to strands of time. And they just don't work. They're not physically damaged or anything, only not working. On the other hand, it may be the disk drive starting to fail and sometimes refusing to read them correctly. I'd have to investigate. But time... Or lack thereof. xD

In Poland Amiga and it's games lived a bit longer then in the West. We got around to have better PCs a bit later. After that it was downhills for Amiga even though there were still good games being made for that system (yet mostly for the more powerfull versions like Amiga 4000 or better, which no one had)

True, but making a game for A4000 was like making a game for 17 people. I'm exaggerating obviously, but compared to other models, those very strong systems were rather rare. xD

Oh wow! Death Mask was ambitious for the Amiga? It looks like your character’s crouching everywhere, or very, very short? 😄 Forest Dump definitely does look like a Super Frog reskin? Did they in fact nick code from it? Foundation: Gold isn’t my thing & I wasn’t going to comment on it but it genuinely caught me off guard with being released in 2000? Heroquest II is exclusive? I’m surprised but then again it was a bit dated for ‘94. Can’t you just blame Batman for the references? Liberation: Captive II is new to me but looks fun? It looks like a cross between a dungeon crawler & System Shock, kind of? Lionheart! Finally one I know & it’s a gem. Bring your Amiga over for a gaming afternoon! 😄 I think learned about Premier from you & what a gem! It’s such a good looking game but also a fun one. Yeh it’s not the greatest in terms of gameplay but far it’s from bad, it’s decent enough & the eye candy makes up for any shortfalls. Lost in Mine looks like something I need to play. I’m not sure why we didn’t get at least the more interesting Polish games or why Polish dev’s didn’t bother with external markets, necessary or not? Just selfish I guess? 😄 (obviously joking.) Perihelion: The Prophecy really should be better known. It’s a game that deserves to be remembered for it’s look & feel, as subjective as a game’s “feel” is. Cracker of a video, thanks. I genuinely thought Heroquest II Came out on PC but I stand corrected… or sit corrected, I’m disabled & avoid standing when I can. 😄 I snagged Monstrum, thank you. I got here literally 4 minutes after the public upload to KZbin. I really need to get around to repairing my gaming PC so I can give it a bash.

Death Mask was seriously crappy if you attempted to play it alone. Pretty cool with a friend if you managed to somehow split the screen in a way that neither would see other's half. I don't think that any code was stolen from Superfrog, as Forest Dumb is incomparably worse playing/feeling game. They definitely copied some level design ideas but no code was moved. It's clear by the moment you touch the joystick. I love Settlers, first and second in its gold edition especially, as I played both on a split screen with a friend. And it's more fun this way. But Foundation while really trying to be the next Settlers, is just not as good. In my eyes at least. First HQ wasn't an exclusive. But second was. Go figure. Also, a better game, not only in terms of presentation but also scope and the fact that it gave you a "campaign" to play through, and not a series of separate small missions. If you ever played the first Captive, Liberation is a natural extension of that story and you summarised it well. It can be considered a mix between a dungeon crawler and system shock with a touch of something else, as everything is interactive in this game. Quite literally. Also, its intro is excellent and really worth seeing at least once. Both Lionheart and Premiere are good platformers, both for different reasons. I think that by the time Lost in Mine released, it was not "worth it" to publish games outside of Poland for Polish developers anymore. And also the piracy factor was quite prominent in that too. By then most games were cracked within a day or two from when they released. I think I've got 4 or 5 more of these "bigger" game codes, so the next few videos all should have those in them. As always, thanks for watching! :)

I think I just mentioned Premiere in the comments a few videos ago, haha. I absolutely loved that game and the soundtrack. I have the same feeling regarding Lionheart too, which I thought looked incredible for the time, even if the controls felt like you were pushing a He-Man action figure through setting concrete at times. As much as I liked Hero Quest the actual board game I never played it on Amiga, I did play Space Crusade though.

Death Mask - If the Wizardry perspective worked on an FPS, there would have been real FPS games in the 1980s. 90 hall movement is for strategy and make action on a single screen, but not for movement based action. If an ML was able to handle the task "Make a generic Amiga platform game", it might be Forest Dumb. Especially the name. Foundation Gold: I'm unsure why someone decided to put this in a sleeve and release it in stores in 2000. HeroQuest (The Board Game) had a longer life in the UK than the US, probably because of the connection with Games Workshop. I assume that's why there's an Amiga exclusive HeroQuest II. And if my memory is correct from some previous entry, I think the HQ 1 and 2 games are likely unrelated code-wise. Liberation: Captive II. There's nothing wrong with trying Dungeon Master in a Sci-Fi game. It's very ambitious looking for an Amiga game. Lionheart - The standard style Amiga sword swinging platformer. It's hard to get away from the He-man factor. Lost in Mine - it's a Lode Runner looking tiny guy platformer again, but this one has scrolling interestingly enough. Perehelion is too drab, and it's got the generic wannabe Giger thing.
@OldAndNewVideoGames
@OldAndNewVideoGames 8 ай бұрын
Believe it or not though, Death Mask can actually be fun when you get to play it against someone and split the screen somehow, so that you don't see each others. It doesn't have a staying power though and sucks in single player no matter how you look at it. But in multi, it can be fun for a little while. Unless you have better games, then clearly there's no reason to run it. Yep, HQ and HQ2 are entirely different games. Liberation is really good. I mean, like sequel-worthy good. And honestly, the freedom it offered, was not what I would expect on the Amiga in the middle of the 90s. Also, incredible intro. I don't know if you saw it, but it was very cinematic. If you manage to fight through the controls of Lionheart, there's quite fun game underneath. I don't know if you ever had a chance to play Lost in Mine, but it's genuinely excellent. And I always tell people just to give it an hour of their time, and if they don't like by then, then it's fair play to just leave it be forever. Most do however. Like it that is.
@kyleolson8977
@kyleolson8977 8 ай бұрын
@@OldAndNewVideoGames I get that Death Mask can be fun, and it's really a pretty good looking version of what it is. I can tell there are many people who liked it. I've got this cynical view of games on ANY systems, be it an Amiga or a SNES or GBA, where they're trying to be something the tech can't do rather than being something native to the hardware. It's why the Game Boy Color Daikatana is a GOOD game. Whether or not the original had been good, the GBC game decides to copy the theme without trying to cram the gameplay in. Lionheart must be somewhat fun, I don't know that I ever played it. It's more notable for how ubiquitous it was. In my mind it's in the Shadow of the Beast "serious" side of Amiga platformers, instead of the family fun side like James Pond or Zool or Superfrog. I'm pretty sure I would enjoy Lost in Mine. (I'm going to try to get it running). I played a LOT of Lode Runner in the day.

@@kyleolson8977 Shadow of the Beast games are an odd bunch. Each next looks a bit worse than the previous but also plays a bit better too. So while first looks great, it's terrible. And the last looks OK, but is actually pretty fun. Second is somewhere in the middle. I think you might like Lost in Mine. Other then the little clunky controls, it's a marvel of a little puzzler. I don't know if have an Amiga but it's super easy to run it through emulation. :)
