My favorite Polish proverb is: Not my circus, not my monkeys. My Polish colleague taught me that one and it helped me cope with my stressful work. Just as much as your great videos help me cope with the dark Swedish winter.

Around 2000, when Bubble Heroes was Busting a Move on the Amiga, the Amiga brand was owned by someone just a few miles down the road from me in Maple Valley, WA (US). It doesn't appear they ever did anything useful. The last I heard of them was in 2007 when they tried to buy naming rights to a new stadium in Kent, WA, where I live. They failed to make the payments, so the stadium became the "ShoWare Center" instead of the "Amiga Center".

OMG! LOL! Such a fun little story. I wonder if they still hold the right to the name. Since we have A500 mini and maxi, the manufacturer doesn't have them, so perhaps it's still there, in Maple Valley? :)

Having grown up on a PC and only acquiring an A500 long after it was no longer viable I sometimes wish I lived in a universe where the Amiga had become the defacto PC and not the IBM/Compatibles. Still, it's always fun to see the wacky and absolutely gorgeous (usually) games people made when it was popular.

Yeah, Amiga was special... I like to think of it having five life phases: - better than anything else - same level than PC, some games could still be bit better - trailing behind rapidly racing away PC + occasional gems - on its last legs but still getting occasional games - good & bad - emulated and kept alive by our common memories and nostalgia

I'm driving myself mad trying to find out what one Amiga game I used to play as a kid was. It was fantasy based, horizontal side scrolling adventure game where you could run into the background and go through doors in the background. A lot of it was set in woodland and you could punch and kick people... The graphics were quite mature looking, not at all cartoony from what I remember. I can't for the life of me find it anywhere and starting to think it's some false memory.

Do you remember anything else? Was it single player only? Were there weapons? If yes, the what kind? How big what the main character sprite? Enemies, were they animals, people, robots, etc.? Any details will be helpful.
@J_Stamps86
@J_Stamps86 6 ай бұрын
It was single player, enemies were other humans and there were houses/cottages you could enter and talk to people. The art style sort of reminded me of Dragonstone, but the view was completely different. I don't remember any weapons. The main character sprite was a similar sort of size to Ripley in the Alien 3 side scrolling game... I think.

Yay, more obscure Polish games! Seriously it’s great to see content we never got outside of its homeland & google translate exists. Bubble Heroes is another Bubble Pop clone but it’s great that some people are still making new games to this day. Monster looks So-bad-it’s-good but sounds like it’s just bad? Runs smoothly though. Blob’s legendary & really don’t know why it was exclusive? It would have been great on consoles? Vital Light is stressful. I’m getting too old for it. 😄 Blueboy is… interesting? I trust your negative review but I’m still kind of curious? Black Viper’s new to me. I like the aesthetic & it’s a shame it doesn’t sound good? Enemy: ToV is another I don’t know but it looks fun? Scorched Tanks is legendary & even if it is exclusive it’s one of the most copied games on every system. Never played Project Battlefield & in spite of my FPS addiction it sounds like I shouldn’t bother? Not being cute about Polish games, it really is neat to see this pool of content we never saw outside of Poland. Fun list too, with some leget good games, some duds & some just worth a look, thanks. Also I snagged Cook, Serve, Delicious! Thanks.

Yeah, Polish games were hit or miss at a certain point, but I believe as many were good as there were bad, so we're bound to see some more interesting ones in the future. Monster runs smooth but is terrible. And I really hate it's graphical engine, with the forced aliasing. It reminds me of the engine in Fears, another game I hated graphics of. xD Blob was great but tough, and yeah, it could've benefited if released on the consoles and other computers. And yeah, I'm bit too old for Vital Light too. I prefer those slower games, hence why I love turn based strategies and RPGs the most. So that I have time to carefully consider my options and pick the right one. Same goes for puzzlers. Blueboy is interesting. But it's not good. Not bad either. Just there, somewhere in the middle, lost in the sea of other much better Amiga exes. Enemy is great, check it out! Project Battlefield had a follow-up - Project Interclaris, perhaps check that one out. And yeah, I get what you mean about Polish games. I too think that even the bad ones are worth a look, as they never really left the country and some had interesting ideas. I mean Doman, Lost in Mine, they're gems. Perhaps gems in a sea of p00, but gems nonetheless. :)

Bubble Heroes is a good try at Puzzle Bobbling. Blob is interesting with a unique feel about it. Scorched Tanks is better than worms in my opinion. Vital Light - some people claim to be confused by this game, but it looks very simple to me.
@OldAndNewVideoGames
@OldAndNewVideoGames 6 ай бұрын
Yep. :) I couldn't agree more! Though I've mixed feelings about Scorched Tanks being better than Worms. While I love ST and it's in some ways more advanced than the Worms, Worms were made much more user friendly and accessible.

Would you agree that Polish amiga game developers are particularly distinguished in efforts to bring FPS games to the Amiga? I mean, I don't know, maybe this is just because I'm a Pole but hear me out: Gloom was made by UK/German team, Fears - French/German team, Alien Breed 3D was made by Team17 which is UK based games developer, Breathless was made by Italians, Genetic Species was made mostly by Danes, Testament made by Czechs, Nemac IV was made by Germans. Poles made The Citadel, Behind Iron Gate, Monster, Ubek, Project Battlefield and Project Intercalaris (made by Sebastian Zieliński who will go on to work on Witcher game that never came out), Prawo Krwi had FPS sections and most recently Dread and its fork Grind. I do realise that some of these games are just craps, but I think it shows that polish amiga game developers are particularly fixed to bring FPS genre to Amiga.

I agree. All you said makes sense. :) Also the Dread/Grind seems to be pretty freaking awesome and I've been hoping to find time to take a closer look at it. Also, whatever you wanna say about us, even if we did not succeed much in the FPS genre, we did stuck to the Amiga for many years longer than most other nations did. Sure, the geopolitical reasons were a factor too, but it doesn't mean that both gamers and devs did not love the Amiga here. :)

Awesome. A new video :) Expect comments! lol Ahhh, scorched tanks. This would make entire hours pass without you even realising. There were very few simple games like that. The only one I really remember was Super Foul Egg, another 2/multi-player shareware game. Me and my pal would sit and play SFE and would be laughing our heads off. Sometimes you'd think you were miles ahead and then all of a sudden those bricks would fall and completely destroy all your plans. Great times. Merry Xmas 🎄🎅🎆
