His 01-04 Stretch was the greatest thing I've ever seen in my life watching sports. He would set walks records, while hitting alot of homeruns, while seeing only two pitches to hit a series.......GODLY .

Yeah, I had never seen a power hitter hit more homeruns than they had strikeouts (2004). His hand-eye coordination was top notch. Also, I had never seen a player so feared they intentionally walked Bonds with the bases loaded and this was in 1998 during the McGwire/Sosa chase.

I don't think baseball has ever had a personality like Barry who is so very much like Kobe, Jordan, and Kareem. The nuances of the game, sport and the competition is where all the focus is. The media and commercial requests really are a distraction, and a mindset of someone of that caliber has to pick and choose what outside distraction is worth giving time to. I was at the game in Houston when he hit #70. Dierker had the pitchers walk him 4 times and most of the crowd had left. At the crack of the bat, I experienced the loudest moment I've ever witnessed at a sporting event, and we were all Astro fans. We don't get loud for our own team. The standing ovation lasted for at least 3-4 minutes. We didn't care if he took performance enhancing products. For one thing they didn't have anything to do with his natural ability we all witnessed when he was in his early 20's playing in Pittsburg. This guy had one of the best swings in the history of the game, great hands, and a great eye. More homeruns than strikeouts in '04 and almost in '02! That didn't happen because of a pill.

Barry should be in the Hall. If they put anyone else from his Era, then he should be in. He has 4 of 7 greatest OPS+ seasons ever. He missed out on 3K because of pitch intentionally walking him out of fear. He averaged 139 walks a year versus 89 strikeouts. Just listening him describe materials and design of bats, to the shape, type of wood, balanced weight, etc. He's a student that because his attention to detail to be an absolute expert. I bet if the media asked him better questions during his playing time......

During the hearings here in S.F. I left a comment on Barry's website telling him that his father was my favorite player as a kid, as a matter of fact, I recently realized that my first attendance at Candlestick was Friday 10 APR 70 with my mom's friend who took me, and Mays made yet another spectacular catch at the fence while colliding with Bonds. I wanted to support Barry by telling him that I put on a lot of muscle in just a few months through increased exercise and nutrition, and Paul Coffey's training regime of exercising for hour or so immediately after games. Anyway, I know that human physiology is variable, as are the results of training.

Great interviewer. One fact when you consider the Hall of Fame, the first inaugural class: Ruth, Cobb, Wagner, Johnson, Mathewson in 1936. None of them were playing the game to become hall of famers. The hall of fame was established after they played. They didn't say to themselves, "I'm going to be in the hall one day." They didn't think that for one day in their playing career. All Bonds wanted to do was complete the circle of playing in SF to be in LF with his father in right, and godfather in center. I saw Barry in Pittsburgh in 92, he hit a home run first inning and trotted around the bases while the organ played at Three Rivers. I was a kid and I remember being so thrilled.

Yea, that 88' year he could have had 90 to 100 rbis, but Leyland kept him at leadoff, then in 1990-1991 he placed him 5th in the lineup instead of in between Van Slyke and Bonilla. When he did move Bonds down in the order they started winning divisions. I think he's right, Griffey had the opportunity to be the goat if he stayed healthy (but Griffey had protection especially 96-99). We gotta hope Trout can stay healthy because he's a potential goat too. Bonds was a pleasure to watch, I saw him in person in the 90's and it was a thrill.

Using steroids to do what he did would truly require roids, but to hit baseball at a high level requires accuracy. It's totally different in my opinion . I think he needs to be in Cooperstown, period. Great conversation! Thanks for this!
