EXCLUSIVE! : Coney Island Bound R160A-2 Coupled With R160B Siemens Cars On The N Line @ 18th Ave

Car Numbers were R160A-2 8663-8667 and R160B Siemens 9043-9047
The second time this type of pairing has ever been in service, I believe that this is another test to see if the Siemens cars can be perfectly linked together with the Alstom A-2 Cars. I rode on this set and the ride was rather smooth. Hope more of these comes into play soon!

Personally, I love it when both are combined together. The other possibility of this happening is when you combine two R160B sets with the two different propulsions. EDIT: it has come to my attention that this is no longer allowed in revenue service.

i once caught an R160B coupled with an R160A-2. Both of them had Alstom Propulsions (obviously different door sounds). I caught them while I was riding home at the Avenue U station.

And those car bodies are made identical........basically as if all the r160 cars were made by either Alstom or Kawasaki. There are welding, interior and suspension differences with the R142 cars from Bombardier and Kawasaki. Also, the HVAC systems are different

The Siemens note is way more melodious. The Alstoms have a bland note which sounds boring and dull after a while. I didn't think this was possible to pair.

@Caitsith810 How do you know which Propulsion sound is from the r160 Alstom and which one is from the Siemens.

The Alstom’s initial whine sounds slightly lower pitched, ’ then goes into a whistle on an ‘F’ note followed by ‘G’ followed by ‘F’ again The Siemens has a slightly higher initial whine and it just ascends in tune in response to acceleration. Then kinda repeats with more acceleration like switching gears with a car.
