I read the book before seeing the movie, and I didn’t realize until just now that they don’t actually come right out and say it in the latter… Judging by what Burry says to his wife at the beginning of the scene (“everything’s falling apart / investors want to pull their money / etc.”), this scene was probably supposed to be included toward the end of the movie - I’d bet the director felt this sequence was just too much of a pitstop to take while the narrative tension was beginning to build.

Any adult would know that Michael Burry, as portrayed in the movie, displayed traits of being on the spectrum but that isn't the premise of the movie and shouldn't be a focus at all. So, sure of course there's a tiny demographic with personal experiences which would make them enjoy an additional scene like this - why does this matter?
