_The Other Guys_ this movie was sold as a buddy-cop dynamic vehicle, but when the end credits sequence rolls - showing a montage of financial crimes set to Rage Against the Machine - you get a hint of the type movie McKay actually WANTED to make (and later would) :)

I read the book before seeing the movie, and I didn’t realize until just now that they don’t actually come right out and say it in the latter… Judging by what Burry says to his wife at the beginning of the scene (“everything’s falling apart / investors want to pull their money / etc.”), this scene was probably supposed to be included toward the end of the movie - I’d bet the director felt this sequence was just too much of a pitstop to take while the narrative tension was beginning to build.

@@DixieNormousEats What do you think it is? I don't see a problem in asking "so", given that this scene was not included and for good reason. Any adult would know that Michael Burry, as portrayed in the movie, displayed traits of being on the spectrum but that isn't the premise of the movie and shouldn't be a focus at all. So, sure of course there's a tiny demographic with personal experiences which would make them enjoy an additional scene like this - why does this matter? So, is this disapproval of the decision to cut it? So what exactly do you want to achieve by saying this?

If the character does have asbergers he knows how to hide it and still seem caring. Many people with these disorders/hindrances are very healthy. It's how you handle the adversity of these challenges. Some humans are focused on abstract concepts and building models. 1. aspergers* 2. ASD doesn't make you uncaring. Aspies like Elon Musk and Dr. Burry care more about humanity than most. 3. I think in addition to personality changes like being interested in the conceptual, Aspergers helped here because he created a hyperfixation out of his work, and because he preferred to work on this passion rather than spend time on something like shallow chit chat.

You're correct, Will. In the screenplay, this sequence of Dr. Burry and his family dealing with the son's Asperger's comes right before the scene where Dr. Burry composes the e-mail to all Scion investors saying that he's restricting any more withdrawals from Scion, upon which Lawrence Fields sends the "I'm Suing" e-mail. This sequence gives him the courage to commit to telling everyone "Stop preventing me from making you money" once and for all.

And for the record, it doesn't really explain that at all. What I find fascinating is that people still believe that those that caused the crash didn't handicap the fact that the time honoured tradition of financing those who cannot afford to pay it back, only works on the end of you can break their legs when they start defaulting on their premiums 🤣 Trust me, when they were making those Synthetic CDO's , there were more than a handful of people who understood the implications if you are oblivious to human behaviour patterns. Scene was not very well done, but this was an important part of the story and I was always surprised that they never had a mention of Burry's Aspergers in the movie

I'd have rather analyze the prospectus (excel sheet), filter how many people paid nothing, calculate cummulative deficit in %. I'd rather work out some sneaky way to get it in e-form than analyzing it manually.

How does an MD not know the basics of Aspergers? A 2nd year med student could diagnose that. And no former doctor would ever ask "what's the symptomatology?" lol

PG 89 But it would be symptomatic for a physician WITH Asperger’s to not see the condition in themselves.

So the only scene with an Asian in a movie about Finance, was cut?

Shame that ended up on the editors floor. Def would humanize Dr Burry and his character in the movie. But guess you got to makes tuff decisions and cuts.

All of the main characters in this movie seemed pretty heavily coded autistic, I wonder if this scene would have been too on the nose

This had absolutely nothing to do with BuzzFeed. It was a good scene, but I think they mislabeled it.

It's a Buzzfeed exclusive. They paid for the rights and the right to put their label on it and release it exclusively through their channel.

That doesn’t seem like a stereotype to me, but from my experience, there are a lot of amazing Asian girls, except the CHinese.

Wait, so Michael Burr didn't know he's on the spectrum until he's an adult? Maybe because i watched interviews first and then watched the movie. I thought it was obvious.

This guy sucked in the movie. I usually like Bale, but this character was a trainwreck.

So basically he nailed the role. (though the real Dr. Burry is no trainwreck...and neither was the portrayal)
