Looks pretty similar to the PC7424 at the price of a used version of the latter. The PC is still easier to service tho.

Speaking of Harbor Freight. Have you purchased the cordless rotary with the "Hercules" name on it? I'm curious to know how it feels. Weight, noise, vibration, etc.... Thanks in advance Brian. BTW, That little da has plenty of twins on Amazon. I don't know why they make some of them. They are just trash.

I bought this unit but it gets pretty hot. I can even feel it through my gloves. Is this normal for polishers? I’ve never used one before.

Brian,I think the long term use of a swirl finder is dangerous to the eyes. They tell you not to look directly at the light. However, when you use it on a black car, it’s like looking into a mirror. Take care of your eyes.

I went to Walmart and passed this to buy the small hand electric model $24, and I was surprised how well it did. I like it and just bought the 6" polisher today.....than you for sharing your thoughts, well taken and clearly spoken.....DIY drive way guy, on a mission to bring back the color of my 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab. So far it has been fun, bring it back to the luster or close to. Hood and roof are burn't, wet sanding then buff and x my fingers, if I have to paint oh well......I think it is a challenge and fun for me, I do so many projects it never ends..Thx again

I bought one of these after another KZbinr that details reviewed this DA. I had a Harbor Freight one I abused for over 12 years and it finally died so thanks for the breakdown of this one. Sounds way better after you changed the grease. I'll be doing the same.

I enjoy watching you tear polishers down and the inspection. Probably, this one is not the diamond in the rough. I hate when the polishers beat me up. Gotta be smooth and light weight. I'm a baby. Lol. Thanks for the video Brian.

Thank You Brian for breaking it down for us. Can you tell me (us) what is the Thread Diameter and Pitch for Backing Plates? Considering the purchase for use with smaller Pads and Plates.

The backing plate thread is 5/16"-24

Great package for the home DIY'er. Everything someone would need to correct their paint, and apply a wax or sealant if they want. Chemicals aside. On a side note, I bought the Warrior rotary polisher from HF, the one for $40, in a pinch. Trusty old Dewalt died while out of town doing the RV. Buffed a 31' gelcoat RV with it, it never skipped a beat. Plenty of power at the higher settings, not so much at 1. Nice soft start. A bit heavy, and It is loud. Recommend hearing protection.

Brian thank you for showing us the tear down. Funny how they put grease in a polisher that isn’t even on anything. Sure it might get to the gears when it overheats and melts it. Looks like it did a favorable job on the haze… John

Honestly I think for the money, if you want a good DA setup. Either the Bauer Long Throw or the Hercules Forced Rotation polishers from HF are great. Along with the the Griots G9. If you want a good set, grab the Bauer and the G9, then you'll have a long throw, and one of the smoothest short throw polishers. The reason I really like the Bauer is that you can really get it smoothed out with some better grease, a 5" quality vented backing pad, and maybe an adjustment to the counterweight. The Hercules forced rotation is basically a copy of the famous Flex 3401, even the backing pads are interchangeable (I recommend going with the Flex 5" backing pad, if you get the Hercules).

IMO you cannot beat the Bauer long throw polisher from HF. The Rupes 5" backing plate bolts on with no mods and it vibrates less. Also change the grease in the HF to lithium or Lucas Red and Tacky to make it quieter - $80 without any discounts.
