Gorgeous movie and such fine acting! Seems alot of people don't understand the story. Lol. They see only one aspect of it. When Harold marries a 25 year old woman and nobody says anything about that! The story really is about how close the two friends were and then their offspring were exceply close. It is almost as tho the pieces of themselves were created in another body....that being the sons' bodies. It is almost as if you really can't imagine it going any other way. Some essential parts are lost in the translation from book to film. (Altho I have no complaints.). Tom cared nothing for girl and in fact touched her so little she asked his father if he is gay. The two mothers decided Tom should marry. In the book he thinks that it could be any woman. He tries to get back to Lil and is then "forced" into marrying her. It's an unconventional union but everyone was so happy. I grieved for Ian and what he went through. I certainly couldn't do that to my lover. Brilliant film.

I can't stop watching it either. I get more with each viewing. A glance here and additional concepts to the storyline.

@@tomthx5804 what's wrong with you is the question. Do you not think an older woman can fall in love with a younger man or vice versa?

It also explores transience, ageing and coming to terms that one’s youth is fleeting, one’s body may age but Tempe soul does not. There is something about grasping for the younger to feel alive and youthful oneself. It’s a very interesting exploration of female sexuality, erotic desire, and the loss of one’s value because of age.

Wow amazing film.... One of my top ten for sure. I did not expect the ending...I really thought it was going to be the way the female's characters were thinking. The additional point for me is the element of the beach and the freedom it inspires. I wonder if there another film giving out sort of the same plot and feelings.

WoW, y'all went in on this film. Some loved it, some thought it perverted. Both are correct, because Human beings are both lovable and complete perverts. Now for all of you who condemned the movie, what the heck were you doing watching it? You knew what the film was about before you watched it or snips of it. Get yo Life. And for those who loved it, You really need to ask yourself why? I Loved it for numerous reasons that would take too long to go into here. Big hand clap to the Director Anne Fontaine (however I think Naomi Watts secretly DIrected this) and to Xavier Samuel - total standout performance.

This movie is a bit weird just because they watched the boys grow from literal babies to grown men. I wasn’t sure what I was expecting tbh I didn’t even read the description. My friend told me to watch it and I was taken aback when the whole affair started going on

I don't mind the film but if it were men instead of women they would be considered creeps and perverts.

There is no adultery in the book. Her husband marries a 25 year old woman and has another baby. Nobody says anything about that. In the book Tom did not love his future bride or care anything about her at all. Roz made a huge mistake ending the affairs.

Gee, I am so surprised that Hollywood is making a movie about perversion. Unbelievably stupid premise for a movie, Probably written by perverts, directed by perverts etc. What the hell is wrong with you people. Do you somehow find it impossible to make a decent movie about decent people doing decent things? The answer is probably yes, because in your pervert livevs you only know perversion, so you can only make perverted movies. tired of pure shit being pushed at us as "art"
@ecctopcd

Haha right because I'm sure you're the pillar of morality in your private thoughts. What is decent? What is perverse? Who decides? Are those concepts considered absolutes or do they change based on the perception of those involved? These are some of the questions being asked of the viewer. This is a movie, not a PSA. Sorry to say but if you really think art and entertainment should avoid exploring the questionable nature of humanity, then you must be *really* boring.
