Warning - the game developer, Funcom, is notorious for releasing heavily bugged games when they launch. It is not only one game they ruined. Since their main game, Anarchy Online, almost all major video games (Age of Conan, Secret World, Conan Exiles) have had bad receptions of their technical problems. These habitual behaviors have been for more than 20 years. Their latest game, Conan Exiles, still has serious bugs nowadays. (It has been for 5-6 years.) There is no information about Dune Awakening's bugs. However, Ordering preorders or buying the game early is not recommended. Please wait for public reviews or opinions then purchase it if the bugs are hardly noticed or do not interrupt smooth gameplay. In addition, do not expect the bugs will be fixed. Some bugs have not been fixed since their beta test. It is almost likely they don't have the ability.

As soon as I heard this game was a MMO it put me off, the early game phase should be non MMO then open up later on into A optional MMO, this would fix most of the major issues and would entice more people

To be honest, I don't understand why this game is an MMO. Almost every issue it has stems from it being an MMO, and there don't seem to be any benefits from it being an MMO.

In a sense it isn't an MMO, you dont have level restrictions etc on weapons. The benefits are you can just team up with randos and do dungeons ( at least until you enter the deep desert ) then its a you might run into players or not kind of thing and thats what makes survival games interesting, plus the exploring the desert every week aspect.

The game is not a different timeline from the movies from what i've read. It just predates the books and movies by about 50-60 years.

It i's a different timeline - Paul Atreidies isn't born in this timeline, instead his mother gives birth to a daughter. Because of this the mothers inform house atreidies of the ambush by house harkanon and win the battle for Arakeen. Leading to a war of assassin's.

People outside Scandinavia don't know this, but sandworms are an actual thing in both Norway and Sweden. Not as big as in Dune ofc, but still totally real :D

I love the dune IP. This game looks interesting, but it looks like it could be any [scifi FPS in a desert] game though. Is that music in the game? It's like stereotypical middle eastern music. Dungeons? I think that confirms my initial thoughts about the game. Anarchy Online modernized to Dune IP?

It's not the in-game music - as there were lots of cuts the sound would be terrible jumping between the clips

They are open world, not instanced anyone can come and go, alone or with a group.

There are max 40 people per Hagga Basin (starting server), and the map is about as large as GTA 6 in that starting server. Most the people in that early preview event were all starting out in the same part of the map at the same time. Dungeons over time are less likely to be explored like that as people start to spread out.

If I'm playing a game where other players can take the things I need, leaving me SOL, I'm not playing that game. No thanks, I play games to have fun, not to be screwed out of content because I wanted to take my time, or because I suck at the game compared to other players. That's unfortunate because I've loved Dune since I was a kid and was really looking forward to this game.

in the PVE area the loot chests are for individual, if someone loots it you still get loot. im not sure how it works in the deep desert.

this game is going to be like the game, The Front. where all the org,clans,guilds, are going to be from the start in a big race to build up and get to the deep desert and take control of the spice. if your a solo player and dont want to join these groups your fate is death constantly. the pve aspect of the game is going to be short lived. at a certain point every solo player is going to have to go into the deep desert to keep playing the game. and thats were the game will end for those players. this method of gameplay killed The Front. and with the fact that the deep desert servers will get wiped every week, it will just be the same thing over and over again, race, conquer, control and defend. and the solo player wont have a chance. everyone is ranting how great the gameplay is right now, but it is only showing pve gameplay. they will not show everyone what this game is really going to be about.

It is the game. Unreal engine 5 = unoptimized garbo unfortunately

I agree with others. This game looks like every other game really. I personally feel that if they really wanted to make a good Dune game, then it should be only a single player story. This building aspect seems so out of place to what Dune is. I don't know what I was expecting but this is not it.

If it's similar to conan exiles, lore and immersion will be great. But the gameplay is wide and an inch deep.

The 'damage sponge' enemies suck. It really spoils it. Just makes it feel like an MMO arena shooter. 🫤

I do. I also know how combat works in the real world too. That's why it bothers me. Damage sponges are just a substitute for a lack of engaging gameplay.

@@loudandlovnit, yes, but the enemies shooting back at you, for example, shouldn't have that capability. It's a balancing issue. Can also see, in the video, that there is less focus on calculated and smart Close Quarters Combat. It's just running and kniving and shooting. Its a shame, because I love the Dune universe so much. I was hoping for something a bit smarter and better put together than covering a generic MMO shooter with crafter elements pushed onto it with a sandy wallpaper.

Yeah but imagine if they implemented some of the things from dune awakening into conan exiles? PVE area, random locations that change every week in the deep desert so you actually have to explore instead of just doing the same dungeons, no level restriction or terrible character builds.

This is odd. When I think about Dune I think about a bunch of internal monologues and decisions that will affect thing thousands of years from now. Not running around doing a bunch of action hero stuff.

I played this game for over 3 months, its boring, very repetitive, its clunkier than conan exiles. Thankfully I spent nothing to play it, and wont buy it unless they do major needed changes

@ i am a huge fan of the dune universe, read all the books. So yes, I played the game mostly out of love of the universe and not the gameplay. Its like Hogwarts Legacy being in a great setting, but when it comes to similar rpgs it falls short.
