The potential is massive. As someone who is participating in the beta and has 65 hours in so far, all i can say is, its a lot of fun, and the game although still having some things to work out, it's one of the most complete beta's ive seen in a lonnnng time. So so many games in early access or even beta on steam these days are just an absolute joke. Everyone has experienced that. When this fully releases, i expect this to be game of the year. This game made me go "wow". Ive not had a game do that since 2005 when i played crysis.

I have to admit I'm nervous about a Funcom 1.0 release lol. Your comments about performance, jankiness, etc., are not encouraging because Funcom does not have a great record of addressing significant problems in their games, although I will concede that they do produce very fun and good games. I was a HUGE and enduring fan of Conan Exiles, loved it and played it to death, despite a whole ton of problems, bugs, and things that just never got addressed. Here's hoping Funcom delivers a better experience with this storied franchise. Thanks for the preview.

I kind of hope they do something more interesting with shields. As that's one of the most interesting parts of the setting and definitely the most interesting part of personal combat. Making guns only effective in worm territory where shields are suicide, or making reliable options single shot dart guns would be really neat. This is one of the few sci-fi settings that absolutely justifies extreme reliance on melee combat, and yet I see people running around with automatic weapons tearing through people like shields don't exist.

The number one thing you should do when it comes to Funcom is to really, really, really temper your expectations. Conan Exiles had time to be forgotten before it got to an okay stage. Same goes for anything they did really, except some projects just stayed forgotten. I'll give them something though, they're very commited to never shutting one of their games down. Anarchy Online, Age of Conan, Secret World, they're all still "playable" today!

Classes are purely for roleplaying, like you said you get all skills eventually- But if you want to speed run, go trooper, the mobility with the grapple will save you A LOT of time for the first few hours

I would've personally been okay with just a co-op survival-craft like Conan Exiles, which is apparently their best game to date. Making an MMO survival-craft is a bit of a stretch. Once Human did it, but I'm not sure it was done all too well. Good game for the short term, but not exactly for the long term.

Long story short there are basically many base building maps/servers with 40 ppl cap that connect together to a big desert full PVP map. Sure there will be a lot of people in the desert but if you don't want to PVP you can stay in the base map and do pve stuff... Pirate software interviewed one main dev month ago watch that

Keep in mind: This is a multiplayer game. The servers will be trash on day one. If you aren't expecting this, please change your expectations. MMO-type games ALWAYS have crap servers day one. I haven't played one that didn't. So don't schedule time off for work thinking you are going to be playing this all day without any issues. It does look fun, though. I'm looking forward to it.

We know from the Interviews that there will be „Hagga Basins“ basically pve Servers where Players Building there bases etc. The Players on this Server will be the same, but if you go into the Deep Desert of a Social Hub like Arakeen or Harko Village all Servers which are bound to One Network will get Merged. They spoke about something line 800-1000 Players in a Network. And you will be able to see roughly 100 Players at one time max. Thats what we know from the devs regarding several Interviews.

You touch on it really early on, but I think there's something that's really worth talking about as gamers. Especially in these genres, and I say this as somebody who spends easily 90% or more of my gaming time playing MMOs. The "100 hours in or GTFO" attitude towards players or reviewers having an opinion of MMOs needs to be taken out back and disposed of. It's a terrible, toxic, exclusionary gatekeeper-y attitude that we've carried over from the early days and held onto for far too long. It's not helping anybody like the people who shout its virtues from the rooftops think it is. It's hurting us, in how our games are perceived and how players of those games are viewed. I mean, you just literally had to semi-apologize that this is only really discussing the first ~4 hours. For many people, that could be their whole week's playtime total for games. It's well past any potential return dates for purchases. It's great when games keep opening up, getting even better, and player system mastery really kicks in around that fabled 100 hours mark. Games that get *better* the further you go in? Awesome!. But when if a game shows nothing to onboard, interest, and really hook players by showing "This is what the game is, here are things that we build on, you have reasons to keep on for months or years"; it's not a failure of gamers to go 2-4 hours in and form their opinion positive/negative. That's a failure of the games, and we need to help shift that perspective from our side in. And I say that as somebody with many loved games that really do not put great feet forward in those first few hours, to their playerbase detriment.

Under NDA so can't comment in too much detail but one of my biggest praises is the performance. I don't understand why Force is having problems here. In 4k with everything on ultra I occasionally dip to around 110fps. Other than that it runs amazingly well. Server performance however... That is a big problem, but that can be fixed I would assume.

Those Funcom animations. Funcom can make cool, interesting games but there's generally a level of eurojank to the feel of playing them. For Dune though I want an emphasis on melee combat not ranged. It's iconic of the universe.

If you've played Conan before, their previous game, you'll know that this is likely the combat we'll have on release. They make amazing survival games but they can't do combat well unfortunately. I'll still be grinding this on release regardless but yeah, don't expect different combat on release.

I played Conan when it first released and it was a pretty horrendous launch lol. One huge flaw of Conan when it first released was the fact that the next tier sword could break t1 stone homes 😅 so this lead to bases being absolutely decimated in the starting zones - hopefully not the case for Dune.

Spice is not really meant to be like that - it only has bad effects when you stop taking it. Otherwise longer life, more acute thinking, and in some people it unlocks abilities that are sort of super natural.

Melee jank makes me think of Pax Dei talking about how they're working on fixing melee because it was so bad, but all they've done in the past year is add a couple abilities to weapons. The combat is exactly the same in motion, but with a couple more jank abilities stacked on top. When I see a core game system looking like this in a game developed so far along, I have very little hope they're truly "saving it for last" and simply thought it was good enough.

​@@OneTomato There are people that thoroughly enjoy the Pax Dei combat as well. That doesn't make it good. You have a lot more hours to know what the deeper combat systems look like, but for the rest of us just seeing this 4 hour vertical slice, it's rudimentary knife combat with a weird slow stab and the most basic AI enemies begging to get stabbed. This is what people are going to talk about, it's kind of a weird thing to showcase.

@ I believe he showed this because he is just getting into the early game, when you progress in the story, literally starting on the north zone of hagga bashing there will be dungeons with harder enemies where you need to learn the party mechanics and increase your arsenal, the combat become more dynamic and enemies will not die easily with range weapons since they use the holtzman shield ( a shield that block bullets and fast weapon attacks ), depending on what type of class you are using the combat differ, most people in the latest have a positive feedback about the combat system.

I felt like it would probably be a non-issue pretty quick. Like you get hopped up on drugs to go do your combat missions, then use your downtime at the base to let it reset.

From what I've seen here I'm really confident in what's to come. Funcom has had a great track record for updating and supporting Conan Exiles over the years and I don't think this will be any different. In the survival genre, we can live with a little jank. Would really like to see the dodge animation improved upon especially for people who don't want to just run & gun and would rather live out that DUNE assassin fantasy. I don't mind if melee combat is slow if the animations are fluid and responsive. One other thing I'll throw out there is that the "heavy" attack while being themed is really cool and creative, just doesn't really look very fluid when used with your normal combat and I'd like to maybe see that turned into an assassination mechanic if you sneak up on an enemy.
