I mean, it's clear to me that graphics technology actually peaked in 1993 when Star Fox released for the SNES (I know it had a Super FX chip to help it but come on) and since then basically NGreedia & Sony have just been inventing fake technologies to ramp up prices and make us think it looks better. Physics have gone backwards in a lot of games as fidelity has taken priority. Luckily ND are one studio that focuses heavily on physics and models. We're still really in the advent of AI upscaling to this level of quality as well as the advent of AI textures and models in game development, hopefully AI in the future can do a lot of heavy lifting and things like physics can start being a focus of game developments again.

People's incessant hate on RT is why games keep just pressing forward on the same things: textures, resolutions, shadow maps. RT is the next push in graphics tech, but "durr hurr it make game run bad so it bad" missing the entire point. Hell I just wish there was more of a focus on AI in games. This game in particular is a far exception compared to most combat games, where most just have enemies sit in cover for x time and pop their head out so you can get as much dopamine in your brain as possible, and fake "challenge" with simply higher damage and more bullet sponges. We need more games with advanced AI that actually challenge players with tactics instead of just taking/giving more damage.

AND in Fun. I miss Fun games like vigilante 8, Twisted metal... Back in the 90s we had a soccer game in nês that was a mix with Fight and had specials like when a japanese kicks to the goal, the Ball become energy (Hadouken like) and It could pass through the web behind the goal. Brasil kicker made the Ball become a fish and the phisics OF the Ball get Crazy.. when in corners , u could put a character on the shoulder OF others to gain high . Its was the Mario/crash team Racing OF soccer . Hilárious. A new Crash Team Racing or a Sonic Racing, a final Fighter 4 Just like they did with Streets OF rage (but with ALL chracters with rum capability, pls). I REALLY miss those things.

PSSR is looking pretty impressive so far. Sony are smart to introduce it in the PS5 Pro, regardless of how much it costs or how much gamers will want to buy it. It's for sure laying the foundation for the PS6 and it will be interesting to see how it develops over time. By the time the next gen rolls around, devs will be well versed in utilising PSSR and ready to take full advantage of it.

The reason they're focusing on a game like this is because the original doesn't use temporal upscaling at all, so ANY temporal upscaler would resolve more detail. Comparing it with games that use FSR or TSR will typically see mostly the same level of detail, just with a cleaner resolve. That's not a good upgrade if you ask me.

One comparison that Sony is understandably skipping is the Base PS5 with visual settings + VRR. I'm currently playing this game with Visuals and unlocked frame rate and it looks and runs amazing. I see the pro being a big thing for VR users, with the increased fidelity, but other than that, I really see no point to it

Funny, I am also playing TLOU2 on the same mode. It's amazing....but I dont understand how you dont understand how the Pro mode is the better version. I'm assuming you mean the fidelity4k40fps. The Pro mode is the upgraded version of that, its doing fidelity4k60fps. There is literally no reason to show that mode in comparioson because the pro mode takes the same approach but does it significantly better.

Visuals mode + unlocked FPS doesn’t really work for most people though. I think most people when playing a game like this want to forget FPS and performance exist, and just immerse themselves in the experience. I’m glad this mode works for you, but to me, and many people, feeling the FPS drop reminds me of performance, meanwhile just having a 30 fps lock just fades away once I get used to it. I never get used to anything if the fps fluctuates

I'm more interested to see how the og quality and performance modes run when you select the uncapped frame rate. Native 1440p isn't as sharp as 2160p of course, but with AA as good as naughty dog's it is rather minor that without direct comparison is going to be noticed by only the minority I feel. The 1440p mode running at 120fps, would be a huge selling point if the ps5pro is indeed capable of that.

I found the difference extremely noticeable, Performance mode is super blurry and 'fuzzy' looking in comparison, as it is on most games with the option (HFW for example), I'd actually find myself switching between the 2 modes constantly as 60fps feels so much nicer but the upgrade in visuals on fidelity mode was so substantial, if I didn't have a PC I'd definitely be looking at getting a Pro it solves precisely the issue I have with my PS5.

I suspect most people very easily see the difference between 30 and 60fps though. We shall see though, but the ps5pro at least here isn't selling out and would likely already be a lower quantity unit in production. It isn't a machine for me, but the ps6 will almost certainly benefit from all the games with ps5pro patches which will be a nice addition in three or so years when the ps6 releases.

I'm sorry but all I'm noticing with the PS5 Pro footage is that PSSR is oversharpening the image, especially in comparison to a native 4k, and not resolving additional detail. That and it seemingly exacerbates the effect of chromatic aberration. I don't think this is an improvement, but I also doubt it's because of PSSR, I simply believe that somebody at Naughty Dog overtuned the sharpening way too much. It also calls into question why the Pro can't simply handle 4K60. Is it a poorly unoptimized patch, or is the CPU really that huge of a bottleneck? I'd be more inclined to believe the latter.

It's the same mistake the PS4 Pro/X1X made . Analistadebits has a black ops 6 video. 1080p 60 ps4 vs 1800p looks much clearer. Ps5 often doesn't even use a flat 1440p 30fps. It will have a bunch of effects at 720p. Getting rid of that alone would make like 15% of the uplift go poof. Digital foundry really likes to push ai as the future. But playing fortnite with no aa vs dlss makes it apparent each have their own purposes and here to stay. A guy on reddit tried to tell me a cyberpunk image with dlss was better because a crane far off into the distance was being rendered. Meanwhile the building to the right became illegible. It's also true the foilage looked better. But it didn't actually have more detail inside. The 8 pixel plant became sharp. But you don't lose anything by not having it. I would much rather have a 16 or 32 pixel piece of grass with veins on it. Rather than an ultra clean dlss plant which is just a bunch of green. So console wise. Developers aren't going to focus on actual ultra detail. Because it doesn't look better at a glance or in promotional stills. As such i do not expect the ps5 to actually look better. I only expect the 30fps with low settings to just become 60fps with low settings. Later in this generation. I expect the stronger ray tracing to be visible. But ironically it will just mwan less dynamic resolution shadows

If you have a 120hz VRR display, the normal PS5 actually runs Fidelity Mode at around 50fps...so just the PRO itself it's ESSENTIALLY boosting you 10fps. Considering the price of the console...let's just hope the improvements are more substantial in other games

We will always have to choose until platform holders say no more and set a 60fps minimum target. Investors will always push developers to aim for the highest graphical fidelity possible because they believe that more graphically impressive games sell better. Nothing can change the fact that developers can push hardware a lot harder at 30fps. Mark my words unless Sony straight up bans 30fps as an option PS6 will run into the same issues with 60fps modes having terrible image quality and needing a PS6 pro to fix the same problem all over again.

For $700 and the improvements to the GPU, I'd expect native 4k 60fps on a PS4 game or on a ps5 remaster. I expected that's what we'd get and then there would be games that took advantage of the ps5 pro's power and then go to performance/pro modes. But for a base PS5 game, I don't see how they have to use pssr and still use dynamic resolution scaling. That's a no buy for me. I've hit my wall on consoles and it's $500.

Those games that already have good-performance mode graphics are the worst for showcasing the system's capabilities. I want to see those that have truly poor performance modes, such as First Descendant and Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, where the performance mode image quality is terrible. Most of us played this game in 30FPS and 1080p and it was one of the best games we have ever played. which should tell us that no one needs 8k or 4k because at the end of the day it's about the game and the fun it brings. and no one has more fun because of 4K and textures that are a bit sharper.
