I went to University in Montreal for four years and had a part time job with EATON Montreal. Someone told me that when this store closed in October 1999 it was the third or fourth largest department store in the world, after macy*s, Marshall Field State Street and Harrods. I still own property in Montreal and really miss this store. EATON kept two of the original 1920's Otis Manual Elevators right to the end. The rest were refitted and changed in March of 1991. Too bad they didn't keep some of the marble pillars and flooring on the main floor. They did keep some of the wooded revolving doors on the Robert Bourassa (1500 Rue University) side though. Beautiful building!

I remember my grandma bringing me downtown and shopping all day ! And eatons store was my all favorite ! I love every single wall ,design, deco of this building! Wow the old otis elevators and the girls working in the elevators ! They had white gloves and nice suits, the 9th restaurant was heaven to me! I was so young and this place stayed in my mind and heart! I wish i can go back in time and revisit the whole Eaton's department store ! Sad they demolished all the inside. It was a true Germ

It was really one of the nicest and most comfortable restaurants in the world. I'm glad it hasn't been demolished; perhaps it will rise again.

I shopped at Eatons as a little girl and I still have a hat in the original box that I bought just before it closed. We went often to the restaurant. Great that they are restoring.

It does resemble a dining room of an older transatlantic passenger ship. I Love Art Deco.

My Mom used to take me there for brunch, even in reality the place is surreal. Once seen one never forgets it.

By any chance would you have a copy of the menu? I used to go with my mom when I was a young teenager. She died 32 years ago and it's still one of my favorite memories.

I'd clear out the tables & chairs dim the lights and at the strike of twelve the big band starts playing "Midnight, the stars & You"
