Lotta German soldiers went to work in Africa and South America post-war. Anywhere that didn't mind ex-"bad guys" being behind their triggers hired 'em. Just one of the many oddities that come with one of the world's oldest professions. The post-WWII/Cold War in general was perhaps the peak of what comes to people's minds when they think of the word "mercenary". Just a group of professional warfighters, anywhere from squad- to battalion-sized, paid to charge headlong and feet-wet into combat where others couldn't or wouldn't, their bonds of brotherhood formed by the crucible of battle rather than by blood or soil, making bank and slinging lead in streets and jungles and savannahs. While the thought of spilling blood for meager pay and the possibility of bleeding out in a ditch far from home for a fight not my own isn't my first idea of a good time, I have to admit that the romanticism surrounding the profession is more than a little appealing, especially as a man with little to connect him to his home...

Nowadays, in order to operate with any sort of latitude, you have to basically tie your entire group to a single country and only take contracts from that country (and allied states). Acting as an independent soldier/outfit = BAD, being a disposable, deniable asset = OK. The days of soldiers taking taking pay on their terms has been thoroughly stamped into the dirt by the Powers That Be, much like other notions of abject, unsanctioned individualism. They much prefer to keep their pawns in their pockets, as opposed to having that pawn decide it wants to be a knight for a change. That goes against The Plan, and that worries them-- has them shaking in their loafers.

Blackwater was based off EO's structure, not just that Blackwater just ran conveys and murd ered the locals as you eluded too. They never tried to end a conflict as that meant they'd lose their revenue stream. Whereas EO was about creating a better Africa, so would end wars in 7 months, with a skeleton crew to reduce costs for Serra Leone.
@prointernetuser Жыл бұрын
@@Alex-cw3rz What a weird take. It's not in a single PMC's power to end the war in Iraq. Blackwater, along with other PMCs, were there to escort US government personnel and guard camps; not hunt down rebels. Totally different environment between EO and BW.

@prointernetuser Жыл бұрын
@Alex "simple as convoys" lmao idk dude. Cia and state department contract these people. Maybe it's about the complications with the military chain of command if they wanted military members under their command. Maybe the military structure does not support lending out troops to gov agencies. Maybe it's as simple as money. Maybe it's sth more nefarious. Who knows? We can speculate what's up with the military contracting world all day. I'd say that the contractors aren't as incompetent as people make them out to be though.
