I messed up my rotator cuff by exercising a while back. Not from crazy intense exercise or too much weight too quickly, just from doing movements my muscles weren't used to. Had to go to a physio to relieve the pain and then a biokineticist to build and strengthen the muscles to a point where I could exercise properly. And maaan, that biokineticist focused so mush on proper technique and slow, measured movement. It was crazy how easily I fell into the trap of just hammering out the reps but not focusing. She is amazing. I am so psyched to continue building up to reach my fitness goals, can't wait. Your videos are very inspiring, thanks Dr. Mike.

@MatadorTheGreat Herria isn't as knowledgeable as someone like Mike. He can do lots of pull-ups, and that's the most impressive thing about his videos. He doesn't understand hypertrophy and all the finer points about technique, especially when he covers weight lifting. But he's really good at pull-ups and pushups.
@balbibou7 күн бұрын
@@MatadorTheGreat because : - jealousy - people like to criticise, human ego sometimes is execrable. - he only sticks to "basics" by internet standards. I think a lot of folks must remember that he was and probably still is able to perform front levers and variations, HSPU, I bet he can hold an iron cross, he can do planches, Lsit clapping pullups, etc etc. Apparently this is a fraud by modern standards. It's like saying a successful youtuber who enjoys powerlifting is a fraud because he can only deadlift 240 Kgs at 70 Kgs BW. We can clearly see him execute some intermediate and advanced techniques on his videos. He is strong. But again, social media templars think this is sh** because there is always a random 1/10000 street workout guy who manages to achieve one or two moves from the rings specialists stuff, or an hspu while resting on their ding dong. Maybe they forgot street workout competitions are a joke (compared to gymnastics). Maybe they should just train gymnastics and understand that calisthenics are just a tool in a box of tools. Street workout became extremelly popular, which is good, and more and more people are now able to achieve intermediate or advanced figures like he does. More people = more competiton. it could tarnish his image, comparison is terrible you know. I'm not biased, I also do street workout and I try to spit out what I think are facts. The average joe can't even perform a pullup. This is already insane, but it's nothing compared to a keyboard warrior in 2025 - he doesn't perform the absolute perfect form, street workout guys have to compensate the lack of recognization of their discipline by criticism and create their own standards of what's good and what's not. If a comp' referee asks for a particular form for the execution of movements, then ok it's fine. Or just stfu. - he is a good entrepreneur, makes a ton of money. As soon as you make money, some people call you a fraud. He may not have a degree like Dr Mike, isn't an Olympic athlete or whatever but I bet a lot of kids or people in general of all age started doing/physical- muscular sport because of this guy.

2:40: You only really need to focus on the number of reps on the first set to know whether you need to change things up or do a reactive deload. The following sets don't really need to be counted and it's actually beneficial not to count them if you want to autoregulate your volume. Check out Menno Henselmans autoregulated volume training: "AVT (autoregulated volume training) is a programming method in which you only plan the weight and number of repetitions of the first set, e.g. 260 pounds for 8 reps, for a multiple set exercise. This first set is your “benchmark set”. The subsequent sets are “volume sets”. They’re performed with the same weight and proximity to failure, but you do not plan how many repetitions you’re going to do in advance. In fact, you don’t even need to count your reps in these sets. The purpose of AVT is to autoregulate training volume based on the difficulty of the first set. The more neuromuscular fatigue the first set induces, the lower the total volume for that session will be. If the first set had you bust out your tomato face to grind through the sticking point in the squat and feeling so lightheaded you wondered how you even managed to rack the bar afterwards, then you will naturally perform fewer reps in the subsequent sets. In contrast, if the first set had you progress as planned with more left in the tank, then you will naturally perform more reps in the subsequent sets. The result is that AVT normalizes the training stress over time to prevent overreaching yet also ensure a sufficient training stimulus."

Outside of that I admit his content is very decent and easy to understand for the average viewer, but totally not the most educational and well thaught. He was one of the people that got me into fitness and calisthenics but once you understand the basics his content is not that usefull anymore, he just reapeats the basic stuff over and over in a very aesthetic format that get the clicks.

@@FelipeBerioyou are right "once you learned the basics, his content is not that useful anymore". Which can be said about almost any fitness blogger. You don't have to study for 10 years to lift weights properly. Once you understand the principle and have some experience you don't really need all these guys on the internet The reason people continue to watch them is because they simply like) Chris got me into training like 6 years ago and i still watch his vlogs, collabs and other not so much focused on training videos just because i like. I don't really care what other pro ppl saying, they weren't an inspiration for millions of viewers, but Chris was and still is. No hate to them but i often find quire a few "pro" category people in various spheres, not only in sport, to be extremely braggy and arrogant for no real reason. So he might not be the best as an athlete (though still looks better than 99% of men) but this is not what i was looking for either

Chris is a good calisthenics athlete and a world famous social media influencer but he ain't a calisthenics legend, some legends of calisthenics are HannibalForKing, Zef Makaveli, Pere Coll, Daniels Laizans, Dejan Stipke, Matthew Zlat, Daniel Hristov for some world top calisthenics athletes legends. And for the strongest calisthenics word famous social media influencer is probably Andry Strong. Chris makes good training videos and they are entertaining but is level is great but not among world top level.

11:35 do you know why we do calisthenics to begin with?? Because we don't have the money or space to get weights. lol thats usualy what it comes down too. At some point though weights usualy come into play.

Honestly Chris Heria from ThenX is the reason I started working out. I started off with Calisthenics and I learned so many skills from watching his videos and I built a pretty good physique from calisthenics alone. I was lucky to meet him at a Calisthenics gym in Houston TX when he was doing a tour and he did a workout session teaching people front levers. Yes he can have some questionable advice when it comes to nutrition but in his domain he truly is an expert in Calisthenics. Have been doing more weightlifting the past couple years but I still owe it to him for my excellent pullup, dip and other skills.
