Huge credit to whoever decided, "we're going to objectively review each piece of content instead of only highlighting stuff that sucks and makes us look smart." Thanks for having faith in the audience that we're interested in seeing good execution, too, and that your commentary is helpful REGARDLESS of the quality of the movements being demonstrated. Good content doesn't have to be critical of other people's works, it can be in support of it. Amazing job.

I tried that booty band pushup. I have hypermobility and struggle with keeping form and injuring myself during pushups, whether they're on the knees or on the wall or whatever. My shoulder blade is feeling pretty good on the band pushups. Hopefully I can work up to doing real pushups, but if not, its still more ideal than injuring myself and giving up on them. Its pretty comfortable and does not ride up with the fabric kind.
@ElCubed

I also used the band assist to rehab my pushups! Eliminated my elbow pain and allowed for better form, while building confidence in the movement doing more reps. I also used inclined pushups to add more volume with less load, and finally got back to a full strict pushup! The band was a good regression for me when I struggled so much and hated pushups- now I want to train for higher volume and harder variations in the future, love that it is an exercise I can do anytime and anywhere!

I really like how her page hits all of the checkboxes for being something not only young people new to fitness, but really anyone new to it could get into. 1. She's clearly a down to earth human with no ego at all. Her content, and she as a person that she puts out there 'feels' real, which means real people will gravitate to it, and want to listen and absorb. 2. Her advice is pretty simple and accessible for anyone, with any budget, and most importantly, largely damn sound advice minus a few exercises that aren't as necessary. and 3. Her form on exercises is just really, really good. I think he's definitely right about the high volume for legs. It's almost like she's a young Platz, and has been so obsessed with legs for so long, that they are just cyborg legs at this point that can handle more volume than the average person training.

In regards to doing squats starting heavy, a trainer that I had for a while had me do a warmup set, then 3x working set for squats, and then after the third set, immediately drop weight down as far as I needed to and bang out 20 with no rest between. That was by far the most effective leg workout I've had - he had me do it with squats, leg press, etc.
@eschelar
@eschelar 6 ай бұрын
I always get people started with a basic bodyweight squat routine. Typically get them working on it for 3 weeks. It builds some basic muscle mass and endurance as well as helps stretch the ankles and knees and builds good movement patterns and balance for when we get the bar on their back. Most people I train are barely able to handle the bar at a useful depth on day 1. Bodyweight squats for 3 weeks, every other day, adding 1 rep each time, starting with 4 sets and whatever they can handle comfortably and every time they hit 26 reps, dropping 5 and adding 1 set... Most people can handle 40-60kg on their back after that, even females.

Hey doc, I came up with a great pullup variation for intermediate beginners struggling to get their pullups. They’re called box pullups and you set a height where you lightly rest on your toes and pull with your upper body and only until you need the assistance start applying pressure through your legs to help complete the rep, that way you don’t lose the tension from the bottom of the rep, and have that extra layer of assistance!
@soumen_pradhan

Would a beginner have the control required, though. Most would immediately start pushing.

I just found out about your channel. I don't really know what I'm doing, but thankfully, steady-state cardio is simple and I've been seeing good weight loss results. I was drinking a few times a week and NOT just 1 or 2 drinks, but many and I've been living that way for 15 years. From that experience, I consider myself a professional on how you shouldn't deal with the loss of loved ones. I'd think "They wouldn't be proud of how I'm living now, but that doesn't matter - they're gone", which fueled my self-hatred, which fueled my drinking, which fueled my self-hatred and so on. For years, I've wanted to quit drinking and focus on my diet, exercise and to reach my goal of having a healthy body that makes me proud of myself in the mirror instead of dodging my reflection when I go into the shower every day. I only just started my life without alcohol, but already, I feel motivated and I feel proud and when I think on what my lost loved ones would say, I hear them in my head, saying "Finally woke up? About time. Now, go be who you actually are. Go be who I wish I was still around for. No more running away. It's time to run forward." The 'bottle' is poison and I hate it, but I no longer hate myself. I'm 34, 6'3" tall and I was at 310. Now, I'm at 279 (just weighed this morning), moving toward the 210 - 220 range. I'm 1/3rd toward my goal. It's so much easier to exercise every day than it is to hate myself, but it was a major struggle to finally decide to stop running away. If you read all this, wow (this was more for myself than anything), but if is helpful in any way to anyone, it was worth sharing. I know I'll always love and miss those I've lost, but now, those losses are my strength and I'll never allow them to become excuses ever again. This community is where I belong.

I believe the thinking behind the arched back during the stiff leg deadlift is that it must target the glutes more in the same way as it does during a 45 degree back extension (I've never felt that to be true personally, but maybe I'm different). You can see her do exactly that in the very next exercise.

Lean Beef is my favorite, because I can see her processing and thinking things out like I do. We've soaked up all this knowledge on weight lifting, but we all have our own little ways of making the workouts best for "us". We all have different body types and genetics. Question for you doc, for the deadlifts. Bending the knee tends to give me more glute activation and reduce lower back irritation. And I look to the ground to maintain a neutral spine. From your professional opinion, what cues/posture would you recommend to maintain these benefits while doing it?

3:44 i think the soft knee SLDL was meant to be more for the glutes than hamstring. for this year i've done SLDLs RP style with a lordotic spine and by golly my hamstrings have grown since but now i've felt my glutes lag a bit. i've screwed around with SLDL to be more hyphotic and the slight bend in the knee and i can use my glutes better through the exercise. i'm aware of the dr. mike deficit glute deadlift exercise but i'm still working on technique for that doesn't make me feel it so much in my lower back and even quads. i might be going too low at this point but what Patty is demonstrating seems to be more for the glutes.
@TheGreektrojan
@TheGreektrojan 11 ай бұрын
If I wanted to emphasize the glutes more in a RDL/SLDL I'd follow the Jeff Nippard cue of treating the top of the movement like a vertical 'hip thrust' and focusing on contracting the glutes.
