Great video, thanks. One point: I think its not necessary at least for all to turn supporting leg 180 degrees. Some may kck better when they turn it less, be quicker etc but as a foundation 180 is good so it makes practising people to turn it at least 90 =) Hitting point should be ball of the foot or front edge of the shoe to get it most destructive power. When practising with a person always with top of the foot for safety reasons. If you accidently kick with force with ball of the foot its most likely a KO.

yeah i find that traditionally the standing leg was turned about 90°. That would have been mawashi geri keage, with the ball of the foot. as far as i know, hitting with the top of the foot is more of a modern way to kick, taken from arts like tae kwon do. and having the foot turned 180° will help with that kind of kick.

You should mention this is the kumite way of doing the mawashi geri. In kihon it is a complete different approach, movement, and impact point.

Nice video sensei. Subscribed. I have a problem with my elasticity, my obstacle to do a better Mawachi Geri. Do you have any video about stretching? Thank you.

Here's a playlist of some of our stretching routine. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnKTnXuOaMZ7pqM All stretches are going to be good if you feel stiffness in your body. Just remember to take it easy as you do them. Good Luck.

This is how I learned the round house in wtf taekwondo but when I did shotokan and kyokushin it was taught differently. More like a hybrid Muay thai one coming up through a 45 degree angle. What is the kihon standard? I’m confused now
@ZenShin Жыл бұрын
You're right. This is a kind of mawashi geri you might see in karate sport kumite. A traditional mawashi keage would be how you described it, kicking with the ball of your foot, and coming from the side, rather than through the middle.

The only thing i have trouble with is straightening my foot when i do the kick any tips 4 that?
@ZenShin2 жыл бұрын
This is a common problem with students trying to perfect this kick. The best exercise would be to sit in Seiza position, as this stretches the ankle. This can be painful at first because your weight is on your feet, and they may not be flexible enough to withstand much pressure. Sitting down and pointing your toes is a more tolerable way to do this.

Nothing is impossible to a willing mind. But I would first ask yourself what 'good' is for you, in your circumstance. No, you may never be as good as some that started young, and have maintained their training throughout their life. However by practicing Karate you will reap all the physical and mental benefits that are associated with it, regardless of your age.
