I had meniscus surgery two weeks ago in Mexicali, Baja California with Dr. Garnier. My physical therapist is booked for three weeks so I’m glad I found this video. I used a cane only one day, and was feeling much better the second day. I have very little discomfort, and have no issues like others are posting here. I am almost 58 years old, and I’m pleasantly surprised I healed this fast. I will do these exercises anyways to strengthen my knee.

Thank you Bob and Brad. I tore my meniscus in August prior to my breast cancer surgery and now it’s June and I finally got 50% of my meniscus removed. I am rehabbing at home 500 crunches and leg lifts and weights. This helps a lot. Thanks Bob and Brad.

Just had meniscus surgery last Friday and wanted to try to do a little bit of movement. Your advice aligned precisely with my orthopedic surgeon and it was really nice to see the actual movements . I also really appreciated how you gave progressive time frames for the activities-like the first couple days you only do this and then these are the exercises/stretches that you do next and then you don’t do these for 10 days or two weeks… That was very helpful because otherwise I might’ve tried to do too much!Thank you for making this! Plus I enjoy how much you two seem to really respect and like each other and the lightheartedness of your videos.👍👍😊

I had mine done jan 31st, 2022. I till cant fully extend my leg (95%), nor can i run or jog anymore. Im in construction and it allows me to climb stairs, ladders, and get in and out of lifts all day so its showing improvement but i feel my recovery isnt going to get any better at this point. The only time it gives me discomfort is if im on my knees and when i try to stand up. Occasionally long walks at work or working in the garden will start causing it to ache. I know a few people that had this done and one was good to go after a few months and another said it took him a full year. Hows your recovery going?

I'm only 2 minutes in and I've learnt more than I ever did from my surgeon or the nurses I had a double meniscus tear in nov'17, couldn't see the specialist till june'18 and finally september'19 I've had surgery. I wasn't told AT ALL about elevate and ice, I misunderstood "you need to walk out of the hospital" for "you need to pretend you're normal". I was crying. I spent 4hrs resting but was so terrified of blood clots that 5hrs after surgery I was on my feet doing regular things. It hurt me so much but I thought I had to. Thank you for explaining As Tolerated. Even though my pain was shooting up into the 9s and I was worried I might black out from it I thought because the sharpness would fade back to an 8 that it was "tolerable". 😭 It wasn't until 5 days later when I called up the office about a complication that I learnt about elevate and ice. I thought I just had to push through, grin and bear it. I'm crying now because I wish I knew what as tolerated meant when they told me. (I have endo, I live in constant debilitating pain and have to find a way to function so this felt like nothing different).

I am 48 hours post op. He had to cut out a LOT of it. The tear was pretty bad. The surgeon said I should start doing exercises starting today. My knee feels extremely weak, but I’m determined to start building my muscle back. My situation is pretty catch 22 because I’ve had 2 lower lumbar surgeries (laminectomy and discectomy) which I wouldn’t say “failed” because my pain went from constant 9-10 for 2 years down to a 2-4. Long story short, i tore my meniscus during PT for my back. I am trying to now build my core back so I can try to eliminate as much back pain as I can, as well as build the muscles in my leg so I can strengthen it. My question to you guys is pretty tough to answer: will I have to live in pain the rest of my life? If I can get my leg strength back I can finally rebuild my core which has been immobile for the past 6 mo the because of my knee

Received no direction about theraphy or using crutcher or cane. Dont know what cryotherapy is. 4 times to ER extreme pain. No meds worked. Gave me more drugs. No way I was taking what they prescribed. Day 7 decided to start icing seriously-miracle-pain went as long as I iced. Unfortunately Ive been on my feet from day one only using a walking stick. I can tolerate pain to a degree. No exercise. Day 9 stitches out, , handed sheet with 2 exercises to do and physiotherapist referral, No question as to how I am getting around. No mention as yet about time off from work. I had to find my doctor to ask. They are surprise that I didnt know I should be off for 6 wks. Like am I taking knee surgery every year! You know! Its my first surgery! If they didnt tell me or gave me a note! How would I know? ER had given me a note to give to my work for 2 wks off. Thank you ER staff. Wk 3 started physio, 2 visits so far I'm hurting everywhere, ankle calf, thigh, knee, back and toes stiffening on me whether elevated or down, Today at theraphy #2 in one week was given so much different exercises plus therapist taped my knees, My knees, front and sides look swollen and hurt and sharp paiins in calf. I will finish listening to this video and if taping is not a recommendation im goingvto remove them. I guess Im one of those patient that slip through the crack. Will follow these exercises and see, will also continue my theraphy. I can straighten my leg which I couldnt do for 3 yrs. Thats how long it took my knee surgeon to finally operate on my knee. I know I will recover. Some roads are harder to travel on. I guess Im on the ruff and bumpy one. Remind me of a song I use to sing when I worked in the nursery and toddler room. I still give God thanks. I'm alive. I can feel. .

Had a partial lateral meniscectomy of left knee in Jan 2018. Then was having pain and locking of the knee. Knee had an oblique tear and some loose bodies inside. Now in fall 2022 started having a lot of pain in left knee again. Had a partial lateral and medical meniscectomy 12/22. MRI showed both sides had tears and loose bodies inside that got removed. Was able to bend knee yesterday, now today knee doesn't want to bend very much, prefers to be straight. I am icing knee and keeping elevated on a pillow in bed. Doctor recommended starting PT ASAP. My PT is full to the next 2 weeks but could get placed on wait-list. Not sure if I should start PT this soon. Want to get PT done and knee better so I can get started for having ankle surgery. Need to have Achilles tendon debridement/heel spur removal surgery. That puts me 2 months non weight bearing. That is why he recommended fixing knee 1st.

Bob and Brad! Your self video was one factor in me finding out I had a meniscus root tear from a fall while hiking. Thank you? I'm a year and a half out from meniscus repair surgery. They even did this tunnel thing that left a small vertical scar under my knee (no acl problem, 35 yo female). I was committed to PT and was in for a YEAR and I still have some pain bending, some clicking and I'm still hesitant to play sports or run. How good/pain free should I expect to be? Is it time to go back for a MRI?

How soon after meniscus surgery are you supposed to start therapy?

Hello guys, I’ve had two meniscus tear surgeries on the left knee, 4 years apart. The second one in 2019. Lately when I go to the driving range (twice a week), I feel a sharp pinch in the same knee, mostly on the inside. Can you suggest some exercises to prevent another tear? Thanks. Sergio

Hi guys! I’m 5 days post-op meniscus surgery. Had my first visit with pt yesterday. It went well. Repeated it all at home in the afternoon. Today I am having pain in the top of my thigh. Is this normal when first starting therapy?

How long do i wait, after surgery, to start these exercises

Usually you can start right away depending on the severity of the surgery. Always listen to your body, if it hurts stop and ice, if not keep going.

Once the bandages are off. Mine came off yesterday and I went right to stretching, walking with no cane. Lightly! Very lightly.

Great video guy's! Just curious about the stitches that are still in place after the arthroscopic meniscus tear surgery. Should I wait to have the stitches removed? Also how soon after my surgery should I start these excercises.

Hi Doctor, I had an arthroscopy on my knee last Sunday. I feel better walking carefully without crutches. I wonder when I need to start doing my exercises please. Now: 72 hours. Thank you.

This is what is happening with my knee, I was getting Physio and he said it would heal without surgery but would take a long time, I rested it for 12 weeks and still it hurts. I was reading that this Meniscus does not get as much blood flow, like 14 so self-healing is very restricted because of it? I am trying to avoid surgery! Thanks guys

Just starting this, "easier" than what my doctor gave me to do. Surgery just over 3 weeks ago. My groin pulls/aches on same side. What to do? Ideas?
