This is a well-reasoned presentation on this car. The suspension (control arms and air components) are problematic and VERY expensive, but once sorted, are fine. They will cost a LOT if you get stuck with the work. Strutmasters worked perfectly for me. I bought an '07 460L with 98k miles 5 years ago and now have 163k miles. While there are specific concerns with the LS, many of the issues with the LS happen to all other cars -- let's be realistic on that. All cars break. The thing the LS offers for me that few other cars offer, and I'd argue no other cars offer for the same cost, is comfort, quiet, reliability, the overall fantastic driving experience. This car EATS UP the road on long trips. I have never enjoyed a car more. I drive from MSP to KC regularly, and this car goes 6 hrs at 80mph on one tank, gets 28-29 mpg (V8s love the highway cruising), and I am enjoying every minute of the stereo, the ride, the seating, all of it. This experience does not exist in smaller cars. When the '07 gets old, I will definitely look at the 2013-17 generation LS as a replacement. I would not buy new. Just too expensive. Buying used is rolling the dice, as are most decisions in life. Do what you think is right. Buying used worked great for me. This channel influenced me to try the LS way back when, and I'm supremely happy that I did. Thanks Meyn. .

Same experience as you I have 08 LS460 and I will look for the 2017 model when the time comes for an upgrade. My friend bought a non well maintained 07 LS460 and he regret it but for me I enjoy this car alot as I drive long distances frequently. ES is a city car in my opinion and won't ever meet the level of comfort of the LS. You could buy both if you can afford and leave the LS only for highways. I hate to say that modern cars are lightweight and made with lower quality materials, and I do not feel safe when driving at higher speed in them regardless what safety features offered.

I own 2006 LS430. I take it for its scheduled maintenance at my local Toyota dealer with no issues. I considered trading it in for a 2016/17 and was advised against it. IMHO, the LS 2005-06 models are the BEST car Lexus has ever made.

Don't do it. It's a shame the LS460 isn't a better iteration, I still love mine but goddamn if I wouldn't mind "scheduled maintenance" and not "all of your control arms need replacement" again.

Great video. Everything you said was true!!! I purchased a 2014 LS 460 added an extended warranty for 120k miles. Drove vehicle trouble free for 120k. Shortly after warranty expired and at 127k is when I started having problems. Brake actuator had to be replaced and coolant valley plate was leaking and had to be fixed along with a few other items. Total bill was 6k. I ended up trading my LS 460 for a low mileage 2017 GS 350 F-Sport. The LS 460 is an amazing vehicle. I didn’t want to get rid of it but I could not afford to keep it without a warranty because it is expensive to repair. It is truly a rich man’s vehicle!!!

Got a 2013 f sport ls460 , great car, 80,000 kms, had a water leak that cost $1.2k, Lexus quoted me $3k to replace the analog clock as the dash had to come out, I declined. Front brakes cost $3k but they offered after market brakes pads for half that and in my opinion they are better than Lexus brake pads. Owned it now for 4 years, no regrets

My wife drives a 2014 LS460 now with about 56,000 miles, bought used but Lexus certified, just a windshield wiper rain senser went bad and fixed on warrantee, and recently the analog clock is slowly twisting to the right in it's enclosure, but works fine, I just change the oil once a year, recently had all of the fluids replaced, and it keeps on running. I have otherwise had no problems with this vehicle. A very comfortable interior and a great riding car that soaks up the road, and having had a 1995 and then a 1998 LS 400 which was kept for 19 years, we will keep this car for perhaps another 6-7 years. I really enjoy the V8 engine. Given the horror stories some of my other friends have had with their German cars, I just smirk and remain silent. I have now had 6 different Lexus vehicles, with minimal problems and a joy to own. My daily driver is a 2020 RC350 F-Sport. No complaints what so ever.

As a UK-based owner of a used 2014 LS460 F-Sport (quite a rare car here compared to the US because nobody bought them), I agree with your advice. Buy cash, and keep in mind this was an ~$80k car when new (~$100k in 2023 money). I love the car, and the only trouble it has given me has been of my own doing or minor issues like battery replacement (after 9 years the original battery just needed replaced) - but running costs here are fairly high, between fuel, road tax, insurance and servicing (probably costs me about £2.5k annually to keep on the road excluding fuel). It's also quite a big car for parking in UK/Europe, but that's also true of the S-Class (which I wasn't quite brave or rich enough to go for, even though our household income is over £200k).

Thank you. I watched your previous LS460 and LS430 videos, along with those of other creators and purchased, outright, an '05 LS430 that was taken to the Lexus dealer where it was bought every 5000 miles for service and traded in and put up for sale by that same dealer. It is an absolute joy to drive, a buttery-smooth engine as you said in your LS430 videos. There are few, if any, warranty options for a car that age, and even if you find one that is a one-owner, well-maintained, still plan on spending $2000+ right off the bat, most likely on suspension issues.

One thing I disagree on with the current generation ES is the seat comfort. The seats in the ES are horrible; rock hard, and I was set to buy this one to replace my current one, but the awful seats turned me off from the whole car. It does look sharp, but a previous generation ES plus a 13-17 LS will be my preferred setup.

I own an F sport RWD. Beautiful car, hard to find not too many on the road. Couple things, I replaced the Air struts (not cheap!!). Took my car into Lexus for an oil change an control arms are starting to go. I think OEM control arms will be the best bet but they're NOT cheap. Seems like every 9 months I change brakes, this time I'm going after market with high carbon rotors and whatever ceramic pads I can find. I have the F sport so the brakes are more costly than the regular 460,. Now the only thing I hate about the car is the wind noise and the flaky blue tooth... drives me nuts. Other than that, it's a great car, fun to drive and looks so stunning. I'd only recommend the F sport :)

I currently have a Ls430. Also had a 2015 Ls460. I can tell you just by looking at both engine bays. The 460 motor is cluttered and looks like a massive headache to work on. Everything is more complex and complicated. For example it uses dual intake filters. Had a few issues that made me get rid of it. I had the coolant issue from the valleys. The brake actuator was getting nosier. Wheel bearings are common. Moonroof rubberseal dry rotted and was making a lot of wind noise, tried replacing but they sell it together with glass ($700 part) analog clock on dash stopped working ($200) control arms are pricey as well

I'm wondering if treating the accordion seal on the Moonroof, with silicone or 3 in 1 rubber lube, could head off that repair. Seals are easy to keep up and the toughest part of maintaining the myriad of rubber bits all over the LS (with the worst being those bushings in the front end, no doubt!) might be just remembering to do it in the first place.

Just budget $10k for maintenance if you buy the LS and don't worry about it. Keep in mind you are paying $30k for a MSRP $100k flagship car. FYI, I test drove a 2023 ES Hybrid, it's smooth and quiet, BUT not plush like the LS (because not air suspension).

Just have to give props to this video. This generation LS is just not for everyone. A few big dollar repairs as mentioned here. This could be a great 2nd vehicle OR if you put on less miles by working from home or something, then it works out. Each of the big dollar fixes should be good for 125000 to 200000 miles, so if you keep it a long time it will all work out and hopefully those repairs/big maintenance (bushings and shocks are maintenance items) will not double up on you and you can spread them out. If you are thinking 30-50,000 mi/yr I would strongly suggest an ES instead. Unless you are comfortable handling all of these issues every 3-6 years or so. Food for thought from an LS600 owner.

People love to believe that Lexus fixed all the 2007-2012 issues on the 2013 and later model----but the data shows that this just isn't true. Improvement, maybe. Solutions, no. Those common issues everyone talks about, control arms and brake actuator, are still problematic 2013 and later. The melting interior plastics are not nearly as big a problem, but I do think people in 2013 and later LS models still report it. I'm not sure about the valley plate leak.

Well stated I own a 13 ls460 rwd, these cars are expensive to maintain if you are not a DIYer. The parts are not too bad if you source out yourself properly. Labor will kill you if shop is involved, doesn’t break this is just my observation from brakes and suspension which seems to be the only things that will get replaced. Suspension will last about 8-10 years if quality is used. Must have diagnostic tool or tech stream and purchase a repair download for the 460 specific and you will absolutely enjoy the car

Adding on to this comment. I bought my LS460 2015 AWD new. As the only owner, I have taken the car only to the Lexus dealership nearest me. This car will cost you on maintenance, no way around that. However, Lexus is expensive to buy, not usually to own. Meaning, as this my third Lexus. I can only say, do your research. Know what you are getting into. Be a true automobile owner and not just car owner, there is a difference. Do exactly what the manufacturer recommends, and if you choose to purchase this car, OEM parts well worth considering. You must have the funds to keep this car well cared for. As he stated if you do not, please do not even consider purchasing it without doing a thorough analysis of your financials. Seriously, when things break (which is NOT often) they break, and you WILL have to pay. Outside of that. EXCELLENT vehicle. It is my main ride, and I truly love owning this vehicle. Do it, but not without a CPO warranty. I had a 14 F Sport for 3 years. Door locks failed on all four doors (rear drivers side twice). That was over $2k covered under warranty. Rear air springs intermittently deflated. I could temporarily reinflate them by setting the ride height to “high” but at $2000 per corner, that’s where I tapped out. Overall, fantastic car. But I’d never own one out of warranty.

I immediately sent it to get the control arms warrantied, so I haven't even been able to drive the car since purchasing it which has allowed my mind to wander Between that & seeing videos like this post-purchase, it has not been particularly good for my nerves lol I'm optimistic it'll be a good car in the end for me, but it's my first time owning a car at this level of complexity, so fear of the unknown and all that.

AWD V8? That's the appealing thing to me. I'm just really upset that the new IS 500 didn't come in AWD. Snow isn't fun without it. I'm gonna save up for one of these and keep it until it rusts apart.

Brake actuator failure, coolant pipe leaks, air shock and control arm failure are known issues on these cars typically once they get up in mileage...buy the lowest mileage one you can afford with a warranty, only use OEM parts, and try not to use it as a hard core daily driver, luckily i only use mine on weekends and occasional road trips, the GS and the new ES are really good alternatives

Rough ones, salvage titles, etc, are going go for 11K, that clearly need a lot of work -- asking thousands above KBB and not even fixing the super obvious stuff with these cars. Your comment about people who can't afford to own these cars is very true. You can buy LS460 for the price of a Camry these days but you still have to pay LS460 money for maintenance every time you take it to the shop. Cost of maintenance might be shocking for unprepared person. LOL. Another thing to keep in mind is that LS is rather rare car, made in Japan in small quantities and you can't just walk into any local auto parts store and buy parts for it. With that being said it is a great car and if you can afford to maintain it you will never be disappointed. 2017 LS460 RWD is my year around daily driver and I love it. Last normally aspirated 4.6 V8 Lexus sedan.

I was very surprise that the only luxury car that had a better reliability record than a LS 460 is a Lincoln Towncar! Yes an American car scored better than a LS460! At first I couldn't believe it but after studying both cars and finding some Towncars reaching a million miles. Yes the best from Ford vs best from Toyota yes the Towncar is great! @@350zlover2 Yes, I also tend to agree with your opinion. Because Lexus has excellent quality and enjoys a good reputation in North America, the price of used cars already includes a premium. Therefore, it seems unnecessary to spend extra money on purchasing an extended warranty.

Preventive maintenance the other guys said. What about just when stuff breaks for no reason. All newer cars have too much going on I recommend a warranty. If one needs a warranty on a new or used car purchase. Then they should probably select a different manufacturer and or model. Otherwise, why shell out all that money for the purchase ? Mine as well just keep your existing car.

Great video. I agree with you 100%. I recently purchased a 2017 ES350 at CarMax. It is extremely frustrating to find a well taken care of Lexus. The one I purchased was scratched up on the exterior, and the inside looked worse than some rentals I have been in. I had the dealer fix the exterior, and I took care of the interior, mostly cosmetic. I purchased in mainly for the miles, and incredibly, it was in better shape than other I had seen for sale used.

i have a 2013 LS 460 standard wheel base. bought with 83k miles and put 20k miles on it. burning about a quart of oil every 2k miles. also a surging feeling from the engine, which has no impact on engine rpm. just a repetitive whooshing noise. otherwise a pretty nice car
@robertmaybeth3434

I have a 2017 LS and to me, having an over 100K engine that burns a qt of oil in 2000 miles, is really not too unreasonable, all things considered! Not only do the V8's in our cars have "low tension" piston rings to begin with, but the engine's factory fill of 0W-20 oil is extremely thin viscosity too. These two factors alone would set up just about any engine made for at least SOME oil burning, I say one qt in 2000 is not bad at all. Considering the price it would cost to fix a very minor issue, I'd leave it be, of course.

That scares me . I also have a 2017 with 66k miles currently . Does not burn a drop of oil and hopefully stays like that for a long time . Last year i switched to 5w-30. The 0w-20 is like water almost .

@@ClassicXL86 I concur that the 0w20 that the LS 460 requires, does seem ridiculously thin and at first glance, does go against everything I thought I knew about engine oil. But Lexus supposedly ought to know the car better than anybody and that is the only reason I keep using it. And if and when Lexus changes their recommendation and says its ok to use 5W-30 I'll be the first one changing over to it...

You must have money to drive nice cars. Even if this generation gets to 6k used in 15 years, you still have to deal with the low gas mileage, premium gas, maintenance. You must pay to play. I want to get the 07+ LS, its like 6k now with 200k, but i see videos on them, with the suspension issues and other stuff, it costs like 8k to fix this and that. Its really expensive

Thanks for the NHTSA and car complaints websites. I'll add those to my research. I have relied less on car reviewers opinions because those cars a brand new with all the bells and whistles. Plus reviewers tend to ALWAYS say the same favorable BS because they are trying to get more press cars. I started following a guy from NCSU a few years ago for his no-BS style. I will definitely use the sites for the QX70, cause it seems to be hit or miss from owners. 2nd and 3rd owners beat TS outta cars 😂 Even the old Venza is on my radar

The only one I had experience with is Hendrick AutoGuard Platinum and that was great, some people say the CarMax warranty is good others say it’s not so great. Most big dealerships will sell warranties to you but just make sure it is a proper bumper to bumper warranty that covers electricals, HVAC, powertrain, etc and make sure it is pro rated so if you get a 4 year warranty and you decide to sell the car in 2 years, you get a refund for that unused portion of the warranty

I'll not recommend owning a LS460 without warranty. QC/Build is horseshit. I had LS400 that i drove til 265k on original engine and transmission without any hassles. I have 2012 LS460 with 80k miles, that needs a new transmission. Previous owner have a long history of replacing several electronics in this car. I would avoid LS460 at any cost. if you ever see one with electrical problems, run away. The car has ECU for every single component and it gets very complicated to diagnose.
