The flush mounted combo looks great and I like how the LEDs were messing with the camera the whole video

I love the flushed mount combo. It looks so professional. Thank you for posting! Also, I’m not sure if it’s me that sees this, but it looks like the LEDs in the Astralite combo repeatedly goes dimmer and then brighter.
@ExitSign2503 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yeah I love the flush mount combo too. The AstraLite combo has rapidly flickering LEDs. The camera sees it as slowly getting dimmer and back to normal brightness. Very weird.

how much does the adjustments made to the led strip of the bar one make in terms of coverage? does it make a big difference of the angle of the strips? always wondered. thanks.
@ExitSign2503 жыл бұрын
Very good question. I guess it’s where you want the most light to be. I didn’t really play around with how the adjustments may effect the light coverage, but with the adjustment I had set for the middle of the room, the whole room was lit up.

This sounds like the backup battery is not plugged in. These particular signs have a feature where you must have the backup battery plugged in or the exit letters will not light up.

I found the AstraLite combo on eBay. Currently Home Depot sells Phillips, Sure-Lites, Commercial Electric, (Home Depot’s electrical brand) and some Lithonia.

@@ExitSign250 most of my exit lighting is commercial electric. They make good combos. With one surelites emergency light. All from Home Depot.
@ExitSign2503 жыл бұрын
Commercial Electric rebrands generic exit lighting. Most, if not all, generic exit lighting are low quality both in construction and performance. As well as they can be unreliable. Obviously though generic is typically the go-to since of the cheap prices. Not to say all generic will fail or all generic will be horrible, they just are all a lower quality compared to name brands. Sure-Lites is a mostly decent manufacturer. They do rebrand generic products, but also offer others that are good quality.

@ExitSign2503 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily rare, I’d say these are more uncommon. I’m not sure if my version is newer, or if the reflector variant is newer but ether way these are still produced by AstraLite.

Can you help me with identify my smoke alarm problem? So here’s what happened, I live in a townhome with six interconnected smoke alarms that are Firex 120-557B installed in 1996. The one in my room unexpected activated at 4am in the morning, which set off all the smoke alarms waking up everyone and it would not stop until my parents unplugged it and removed the battery. Not sure if it’s due to age because I never had a false alarm that would not stop on its own when there isn’t any smoke. Usually during false alarms without smoke they will stop after 30 sec. These smoke alarms are now 25 years old.
@ExitSign2503 жыл бұрын
I’d suggest replacing all of them. I’ve seen a similar occurrence with FireX smoke alarms too. Sometimes with age smoke alarms become less sensitive and/or may activate or seemingly nothing. NFPA recommends replacing smoke alarms after 10 years. Sometimes you can get a few more years out of them but even most manufacturers also recommend the 10 year replacement.
@caltrain_9283 жыл бұрын
@@ExitSign250 I told my parents about replacing them with Kidde i4618, but they said they want to vacuum the smoke alarm first. I guess if it goes off within 24 hours after the vacuum, they will then replace them with new ones. My parents really don’t want to replace the smoke alarms despite the smoke alarms being way past their age. Also do I need a FireX to Kidde adaptor when converting form FireX 120-557B to Kidde i4618? And if I only replace the one in my room with a Kidde i4618, will it still interconnect with the other FireX 120-557B?
@ExitSign2503 жыл бұрын
I see. You more than likely will need an adapter if you install a Kidde model with your existing FireX ones. Kidde and FireX alarms are compatible with each other.
@caltrain_9283 жыл бұрын
@@ExitSign250 So that means the modern Kidde can interconnect with the old 1996 FireX? Which means if one activates all of them will activate regardless of manufacturer and age? The Kidde website said that only the FireX FADC, ADC, and AD can interconnect with the Kidde i4618. However, all my smoke alarms are FireX 120-557B.
@ExitSign2503 жыл бұрын
Ah. Then no they will not be able to interconnect according to Kidde. I thought that any 1990’s FireX is compatible with Kidde but it appears that is not the case. Unfortunately you’d have to replace all alarms to have the required interconnection feature. However I believe Kidde still manufacturers some FireX alarms. I’d assume the modern FireX alarms would be compatible with older FireX. You could do some research to see if that is the case.

@@ExitSign250 I do Exit Sign systems as one of the systems I inspect here in NZ and I was actually hoping to see if you did brands we have here, because they'd be good educational videos for us. Ah I see. Yeah the US likes to operate on its own set of standards most of the time. We are one of the last remaining countries that has not adopted the pictogram/running man style of exit signs. I’m also not too familiar with units outside of the US and Canada. Thanks for your interest in these videos though!
