Just so you know, while you are right that the New Testament doesn't mention masturbation (at least, not to my knowledge) the Old Testament certainly does. The Christian teaching that masturbation is a sin comes from the "sin of Onan" passage in Genesis 38:8-10. In fact, an old-timey name for masturbation was "onanism", referring to the story in which a young Israelite named Onan was stoned to death for masturbating. It was definitely forbidden by the harsh Mosaic Law, and throughout the history of Christendom, masturbation has been almost universally viewed as a sin due to this passage of Genesis. JW aren't really unique for teaching this stuff, it is just that most other churches have stopped pushing that doctrine, or at least stopped pushing it so hard.

Many Queer youth who are trapped in religions that are homophobic, often try to 'pray the gay away' or get deeply religious to avoid confronting their own sexuality. Thanks to you I now watch these videos to fall asleep. It takes me back to being 6 years old, struggling to stay awake during a 2 hour Sunday service as I was raised Pentecostal Christian. My parents never let me go with the rest of children and instead made me sit there and actually “listen to God’s word” while in reality I passed the time fixated on a random fly or a piece of string because if I actually paid attention I would honestly get scared with the whole doomsday bs. It was traumatizing, and then they would get mad when I wasn’t able to sit still the entire time. It’s like I can feel the stuffy air in the church all over again with the ocasional baby crying in the background, and most entertaining part was when the adults would randomly cry during prayers and alabanza (wtf). Anyway, guess who’s also an atheist now and watches your videos since I can relate to many many things and learn plenty more. So thank you, for watching these and having the willpower to stay awake and report back lol

I'm catholic but hell can I sympathise with you. going to church as a kid was the worst thing. I would dissociate and imagine things, I remember replaying Winx episodes in my head. If I wanted to stay with my father I would have to stand the whole mass cuz he never sat once in church. Bc I was a kid I would get tired easily but still stayed and get this awful tension in whole body. Feeling it sometimes in different circumstances is always disturbing to me as it is so tied with church and other bad childhood memories. I used to even cry bc of it and it's just strain from standing. Lots of love to you and I am glad you found your way 💕

100% The way you spoke about being in church took me back to when I was a kid sitting in church and my mind would wonder and I would be looking at the ceiling or around the room at the people.. there’s always a baby crying in the background, and the priest would be droning on about some shit but I would be too bored to care. I would get in so much trouble because I would fidget and swing my legs and kick the back of peoples seats. My mum would grit her teeth and give me one of those “You’re embarrassing me now and maybe I can’t do anything this moment because I don’t want to cause a scene but when we get home… I’m gonna flog the living daylights out of you” looks. I’m not an atheist, but I can’t stand church or organised religion. I have my own reasons for having my faith, it gives me peace and I’m happy in my life. But I surely can understand why people are atheists because people like Gary and the other guy are off their heads!

They even went so far as to say that mutual masturbation need not necessarily involve Elders. There was then an on-again-off-again discussion of what kinds of mutual masturbation was pornia and what was just 'uncleanness'. It didn't last long. They went back to obsessing over masturbation.

Agreed, I especially felt it in my teens all the way into my early 20s, I left at 22. "Brothers" started acting really weird and I didn't realize it back then but when I look back there was A LOT of incidents where grown men either made inappropriate comments about my body or touched me without my consent. I was sexually harassed for over 10 years by a guy 5 years older than me. It all started at 12(he was 17) when I first started going to meeting permanently and this man put me through hell. I told several adults about this and they brushed it off as nothing. He continued to touch me on "accident" and hoover over me. His family was in control of most of the gatherings so they had a lot of power and loyalty in my congregation. I even lost a close friend because even after telling about everything she told me that she was going to his wedding to "support the family", btw he married a 19 yr old and he was 27... I was devastated and never spoke with her again.

This obsession with having "pure" thoughts is crazy. Nobody can really control what's inside their head. What we all can control is how we react to those thoughts We're complex creatures. Our thoughts and emotions don't fully represent us. It sounds crazy but it's true. We're able to put them aside when we understand that they're illogical, unproductive and / or harmful. If you see a sexy woman and think that it would be nice to have sex with her it doesn't mean you have to act on this thought. It doesn't make you a bad person to have those thoughts. Also the Bible is also strict about what men should also wear yet that’s never brought up.

This is all funny, but it should be said - guilting your children for normal, biological functions like arousal, or masturbating, or otherwise body-shaming, IS a form of child abuse, and has been shown to cause long-term damage, well into adulthood. It delays sexual maturity (sometimes indefinitely), creates weird guilt complexes, and often leads people to immature, unhealthy relationships (like marrying someone they barely know, just to have sex), etc. The Church's sex-shaming is abusive and destructive. Do not teach your kids this shit.

I cringed at "men have a stronger sex drive than women." That's not true and this idea is largely a result of the way people like JWs and other conservatives shame women for having a sex drive at all. I grew up in a conservative christian culture, so I saw this first hand. I remember as a teenager, boys were expected to control their desires and girls were treated like there was something wrong with them if they had desires at all. I was told the only reason I would want to have sex was because I wanted a boy to pay attention to me. People like this try to rob women of their sexuality and it's so pervasive in US culture that things like "men just have a stronger sex drive" have become common place. People who really think women don't have the same sex drive as men need to take a stroll through sites like Wattpad. Also, want to clarify, not all men have a strong sex drive and the assumption that most men have very high sex drives is harmful as well. It varies drastically based on the individual regardless of gender.
