For sure it helps to watch all their appearences on TV. You get lucky when they do their own mini-shows, too. I could not for the life of me differentiate Jimin and Suga and Jin and V until I sat through Hustle Life, and that was easy compared to Infinite since all of the members except Hoya have really Korean names and I'm a dumb foreigner. Had to watch two of their shows to finally get them all down. -_-

Chanyeol has been so supportive about CBX and Lay. He even told them to go and do their stuff and then comeback to EXO in an instagram post. I'm sure there's mixed feelings with some of the members but overall I don't think they feel bad about it because they all have their own things lined up. Chanyeol is doing a drama, D.O. is promoting his movie, Suho is promoting his webdrama, Sehun is doing a movie and Lay is promoting in China. Plus they are all preparing their japanese comeback. I'm sure everyone is gonna say the same thing but if you want to learn more about EXO you can watch their variety show Showtime.

Love love love this. Great reaction. Typically Xiumin doesn't get a lot of screen time or lines so he did well here showcasing what he can do. He's an all-rounder in EXO so he doesn't get featured that much. Newsreader Chen is beautiful and Baek's English killed me. Also - if you're keen to get to know EXO, definitely get onto EXO Showtime. You get a feel for their personalities really well ^_^

Exo's really supportive of their members and Chen and baekhyun are recognized as their best vocals so they probably see why they were chosen. The only person I could be "salty" is d.o cause he's a main vocal but I don't see him as someone who would care +he's busy enough. Exo was my first Kpop group and I learnt their names by watching videos by learnkpopnameswithme, someone who posts MV's with the members names on it when they show up. I also watched Kpop reactors who knew exo and would see who's name they said when certain people popped up. Now I tend to compare groups to other people, for example, when I was learning 24k, I though sungoh looks like V and Cory looks like key, so I then searched up photos on pintrest and would try to name them and then check the discription to see if I was right

With EXO most of the members do little stuff outside of exo like osts and songs with other artists so I think they probably just support eachother. Chanyeol reacted to Lays new video and he was so happy and proud and he also was in a song with someone out of exo. Some expressed their interest in doing solo music or collaborate with some of Exo or some other artists and some have said that they weren't interested in doing solo music and some others said that they weren't interested in doing music outside of Exo at all

It's just my theory but I believe that this was supposed to be a very good vocal unit (even with the rap section). The main vocals in Exo are Baekhyun, Chen, and D.O., but since D.O. is also a prevalent actor and is filming right now, I think they went to the next best singer. After the vocal line the best singers are either Xiumin or Suho and I believe that Xiumin fits the concept better, and the fact that Xiumin can rap and Suho can't also could have helped him being put in the sub unit.

Subunits are usually planned by the company. I do think this one makes a lot of sense. The other members are quite busy. D.O. is in the midst of promoting his movie and doing a web drama; Suho is also doing a web drama; Sehun is filming a movie; Lay just had his solo debut like 2 days ago (you should check out Lose Control it is awesome) and is slated to start a new drama, as well as currently starring in one in China; Chanyeol is doing his music collabs and also working on a drama I believe and Kai is still recovering from his ankle injury. All of them are very supportive of each other's work and achievements. Not to mention they are all having their Japanese comeback soon. It's been a very busy year for them.

When I want to learn more about a group, I look up their first reality/variety show cause it's almost like a mandatory thing for a group to have a reality show right before or right after their debut so that people can get to know them. The show I would recommend for you to watch in order to get to know EXO better would be _EXO Showtime_ it was back when they were still 12...

Well about sub-unit starting, they said in an interview that they thought that they really get together well in terms of their personalities and thought it would be cool to be in a unit. So they approached the company with the idea and the company agreed. Usually its the company who pitches the idea to the group but this time it was the opposite.

It's funny because EXO was the first group that really got me into kpop and having to learn a 12 members for your first kpop group can be pretty overwhelming lmao I started out reading about them on Wikipedia, then I KZbin searched "EXO interviews" and started binge watching a ton of those because not only do you learn their names, but also their personalities and the dynamic of the group as a whole! Then, I gradually started going back and forth matching names to faces when i was watching their MVs (which i watched day in and day out lol). But the one that really helped me was their reality show called EXO Showtime! I forgot how many episodes there are, but it's at least 10-12 and once you fully immerse yourself in it, it becomes so much easier to learn them and you realize that they're a bunch of dorks in their own way lol but i'm so glad you want to learn more about them!! KZbin is a gift, use it to your advantage ;)

The best way to learn band members is by watching the variety shows they're on. For EXO, you probably want EXO Showtime. They were recently on an episode of Infinite Challenge as well, working with Yoo Jae Suk for Dancing King. There's a lot of little things around for you to watch where they all talk and sort of show their personalities and you just naturally start placing a name to a personality and face.

I don't know if SM had been planning their sub-unit debut since before that and it was like a wink wink to all of us (the most likely). When I wanna learn about a group I look up their member profiles to see each member's names and watch their music videos and try to identify the members. When I first got into kpop around like 2011 or 2012 I had such a tough time learning members names but now I can see like someone's ear and be like "that's exo's sehun in 2013 growl era" and I know the names of all the members of so many groups. It's also useful to watch those subbed videos where they show which member is singing and their name so you can match a name to a face and voice.

This way, I can build up a sort of mental character profile that also makes it easier to match names to faces. I think the shortest period of time it took for me to do this was 2 weeks for BTS. EXO was 6 months the first time around (my first ever K-pop group), and a month the second time around.

For all we know, S.M. could very well be planning more sub-units- just taking their time and seeing how people react to this one first. EXO-CBX was first hinted at becoming a sub-unit in July during Exordium, where "The One" (a song off the album) was teased in a VCR. Along with them, another song was teased by the rap line, called "Do It Together". So just like they just released a vocal unit, they may form a rap unit soon- with members Chanyeol & Sehun, and possibly Lay and Kai (who were part of both the vocal and rap lines in the past) but I guess we'll wait and see what they have in store :)

And I feel like D.O. was originally supposed to be in this because for years, S.M. was flaunting EXO's three lead singers (Baekhyun, Chen, D.O.) and even occasionally calling them EXO- BCD (notice how that already sounds like a sub-unit) But since D.O. has recently been more involved in his successful acting career, it seems that they put Xiumin in there instead. Sehun is also busy filming his new Chinese movie so if the rap-line was to debut as a sub-unit, it would most likely have to wait until he's finished with his acting duties/promotions.

You can watch EXO star show 360 - it's their most recent talk show where they appeared as a whole group and you can learn a lot more about them from that I don't think the other members feel left out because of this unit cause most of them already have individual schedules (they all got into acting so they have/ had individual projects) such as acting, modeling, singing, mc-ing, colabs I'm lowkey disappointed that d.o wasn't in this subunit because he, chen and baekhyun are the main vocals in the group but he currently has 4-5 films in the making so his schedule must be exhausting

I don't know EXO well either in terms of knowing who is who. I know all their names but the only members that I instantly know who it is when I see them are D.O, Xiumin and Kai (who is my bias, D.O is my bias wrecker, I also love Baekhyun and Chanyeol and sometimes I can tell who they are sometimes I'm not so sure xD). But when I want to know a group I start by learning all their names and then I watch Weekly idol and After School Club to get to see who is who and get an idea of their personalities and watch other videos to get to know them more and choose a bias and all that jazz xD I will watch their MV's and everytime a member appears I try to see if I can tell who he is and stuff like that. when i wanna know more about a group i usually go to twitter and look up threads. like if i was trying to learn more about exo i would search on twitter: "exo thread" or if i wanted to learn more about a certain member "Xiumin Thread" "Baekhyun Thread" "Chen Thread" (although when looking for specific members its best to use their real name fyi) but yeah thats kinda how i learn more about groups (works other than exo lol i used them as examples) hope this made sense lolzz bc there are so many good groups out there and its not always that hard to find info (:

to learn more about whichever group I'm trying to get to know, I watch the non music vids, e.g. I start with the weekly idol shows and other comedy or reality shows they're on, then try to find behind the scenes stuff on youtube or tumblr or twitter. and also concert dvds are awesome :)

when i wanna learn about a group i google them first to get the names, then next step i guess is watching them on tv shows to match faces with names with personalities.. and next their funny moments on youtube :D and i pick a bias :D that's how it always work for me :D
