Exodus (Jimmy Scott)

Exodus, from Jimmy Scott's incredible album The Source (1969), which was not officially released until 2001.
"It was his extraordinary phrasing and romantic feeling that made him a favorite singer of fellow artists like Billie Holiday, Ray Charles, Frankie Valli, Dinah Washington, and Nancy Wilson".
Jimmy Scott's career has spanned sixty five years. He has performed with a list of artists that reads like a history of jazz music of the time, including Charlie Parker, Sarah Vaughan, Lester Young, Lionel Hampton, Charles Mingus, Fats Navarro, Quincy Jones, Bud Powell, Ray Charles, Wynton Marsalis, and Peter Cincotti.
He has also performed with a host of musicians from other genres of music, such as David Byrne, Lou Reed, Flea, Michael Stipe, and Antony & The Johnsons.
Scott performed at President Dwight Eisenhower's (1953) and President Bill Clinton's (1993) inaugurations where he sang the same song "Why Was I Born".
In 2007, Scott received the 2007 NEA Jazz Masters National Endowment of the Arts Jazz Master Award. Scott also received the Kennedy Center's "Jazz In Our Time" Living Legend Award, and N.A.B.O.B.'s Pioneer Award in 2007.

I love how his voice sounds here in 1969. I believe he was in his early forties at the time. He's acquired a strong lower register here, and not lost one bit of his upper register. One of the most beautiful voices any of us will hear in our lifetimes.

R.I.P. Jimmy Scott (1925 - 2014) I love the album this came from. I have an original 1969 copy on Atlantic records. So I'm pretty sure it was released before 2001.

Thank you ! Then you are very lucky to hold such treasure ! I have read that it was forbidden to continue sales due to some legal issues, and it was taken from the record stores in 1969. So it was published, produced and for sale, but for a very short time. Jimmy's life story is incredible.

And when the MORNING sun reveals her hill and plain.... Some very learned street scholars argue that there is more than one sun. I always wondered why when taking off in a plane on an overcast day, the sun reflects off the clouds. So what makes below the clouds visible. One of you learned scholars please explain this phenomenon to a dumb state college graduate who excels in advanced calculus but failed classical physics. The sun stuff don't not compute.
