@allegedly "Actually, The Ninth Configuration (a masterpiece) is the true sequel to the first" I just got done watching Ninth Configuration and remembered this quote I read by you yesterday. I can understand that it could be taken like Argento's animal trilogy, in that they aren't really a trilogy, nor sequels, but they have animals in the title. But Ninth Configuration is not a true sequel to The Exorcist. It's along the same lines of the philosophy as the third, but has no actual horror element within it. I formed a question as the movie ended I wanted to press towards you: How is Ninth Configuration a true sequel to The Exorcist? You've mentioned the underlying ideas as the reasoning, but that isn't truly what a sequel is. They are vastly different movies, both The Exorcist, the book, and Exorcist 3, Legion being the book. Twinkle Twinkle "Killer" Cain, although I haven't read it, is a less fantastical look at those ides set up in the former and latter movies. I do agree, however, that Ninth Configuration is pretty much a masterpiece. And I was wondering WTF is going on in this movie until the end. I think Blatty is a great story teller, and his knack for comedy is genius!

Thanks for pointing that out. Yes, in interviews Blatty confirms that Kinderman is seeing Damien the whole time. Blatty wanted to give the idea (with the jumping between Brad Dourif and Jason Miller) that the Gemini was the spirit inside of Damien and the jumping around was for the audience's benefit.

The Gemini's raving monologue is one of the best in all of film history. And he's delivering it to General Patton, himself, George C. Scott. This has to be Brad Dourif's greatest performance of his career. Oh, and speaking of movies that deserve more attention, you need to check out Jacob's Ladder (1990) directed by Adrian Lyne, starring Tim Robbins and Elizabeth Pena.

These days winning an Oscar is like running for an election, you have to bribe, lobby and ass kiss😂 It’s not meritocratic anymore, if it was Brad would have at least been nominated but I’ll wager exorcist 3 didn’t even get sent out to the judges as an option. Joe Pesci won for Goodfellas that year, no saying he didn’t deserve it but compared to Dourifs Gemini killer……… Also love Pesci for giving the best Oscar speech of all time. *Collects award* “Thank you” *then walks off*

When Kinderman said he was padding the job, he was being sarcastic, he was actually being very thorough in the investigation. He was being a bit short towards the forensics guy that asked why he wanted to look for prints in both confessional booths, which is the same guy he was berating for being immoral and racist earlier in the film.

The buildup is what makes the scene. You KNOW something is about to happen, but you don't quite know when. So the suspense grows. Finally when the music blares right at the scene, it hits you really hard and fast. That's how you make a proper jump scare.

The zoom is the best touch. The camera does what your eyes would do? Quickly zoom in on the action as a reflex. Our eyes are drawn to moving objects and especially when we’re on edge. The scene did with zoom lens and brass note exactly what your eyes would do In real life when we’re startled. Remind you until the studio mandate ending there was no violence in this movie only people describing it. Also Jeffrey dahmer used to watch this to get pumped up for a murder, he even made his victims watch it Sometimes. I feel bad for artists who just wanna entertain but then some lunatic goes looney and now we debate their responsibilities over the actions of people they never met. If dahmer didn’t show his victims exorcist 3, it would have been something else but th end result would be the same.

That hospital corridor scene should be a required course in film school on how to build tension with a master shot. No fancy camera moves. just the simple blocking and choreographing of the characters. Exorcist: Legion is not a perfect movie but I enjoy how it progresses the detective and the priest's budding friendship at the end of The Exorcist. The late 1970s re-release had it end without that banter (just a view of the steps accompanied with Tubular Bells playing). I'm so glad the existing cut furthered that relationship to carry over to Exorcist III. That confessional scene was also effective. The dialogue between Scott and Flanders is very much like the director's (Blatty's) humor in his movie The Ninth Configuration. And that movie is highly recommended. For the majority of the film you'll be wondering "what the heck are we watching" until it all comes together.

Brad Dourif's character (The Gemini Killer) is only intended to be visible from the viewer's pov. The person Kinderman is talking to,who "looks like Damien Karris" is actually Damien Karris. Kinderman is more confused than dramatically alarmed for the same reasons Karris was when communicating with Reagan; in spite of appearing at least to be Damien Karris, he is speaking with the Gemini Killer's voice. And because he is a hard nosed detective is more focused on his investigation and gathering information rather than explaining or understanding his findings.

Kinderman is the creepy detective from the first film and his priest friend who died was the same priest he met at the end of the first film. The story takes place at least ten years or more after the end of the Exorcist. So the two had been friends for awhile. It gets confusing because they really don't acknowledge the events of the first film (other than Damien). Legion wasn't really written as a sequel but more as a story that just had some of the same characters. The director was forced into calling it Exorcist 3 because the producers felt it wouldn't sell without it.

When the Gemini Killer changes from the priest (Jason Miller) to himself (Brad Douriff) it's supposed to be a symbolic change; seeing his real self that's possessing the priest. In real life, Jason Miller struggled with alcoholism and had trouble remembering his lines so they took what they had and edited the two together. Also I remember the commercials for this, they recommended that pregnant women not come to see this movie.

The devil kept possession of Damien's body as a recipient for a legion of demons, which is why Damien ended up in an insane asylum. The back and forth shapeshifting into the Gemini Killer was supposed to be apparent for the audience, but not the Detective, all he saw was Damien's "look alike", but the demon that apparently also possessed the Gemini killer was manifesting throughout their conversations, still on a killing rampage coming in and out of Damien's body, making him claim that he was the Gemini killer, who like Damien was supposed to be dead, very sinister and brilliant premise IMO. George C. Scott and Brad Dourif were both absolutely magnificent and their performances are my favorite thing about this movie, and of course Damien's little cameo. Thanks for this reaction, definitely a creepy classic, much like the first one.

Amazing that in a sequel of "The Exorcist" that the scariest part of this third film is the jump scare that happens after a nurse investigates à noise that turns out to be ice cubes melting in a glass and the patient yells at her. 😆 LOL I actually found this third film pretty outstanding due to George C. Scott's acting combined with the suspense of the psychological thriller aspect 👍 ❤ 😱 🎥 What I also liked about this third film was it was creepy scary without any of the foulness of the original film.

Brad Dourif knocks it out of the park and into another one. Then knocks it out of that one too. Also, we're seeing Brad Dourif because that's the identity of who is speaking-that's the Gemini Killer as he looked in life. Also, cause originally Jason Miller wasn't in this, it was going to be all Brad Dourif, till the studio wanted Jason Miller back.

@20:14 This scene makes the whole movie for me, I love it! Also, George C. Scott is one of my favorite actors. The first scary movie I ever saw was The Changeling, in which he was the protagonist. I saw it in the theater when I was 5, didn't sleep for a week, my mom was pissed. 🤣🤣🤣 Brad Dourif, who plays The Gemini Killer, has the unique talent of being able to shed tears on command, as you might notice in his scenes here. It also is seen when he plays Grima Worm-Tongue in the Lord of the Rings trilogy: he sheds a single tear as Saruman reveals his army of orcs before the Battle of Helms Deep in the second movie of the series. Also, the "Malfoy" priest was played by Nicol Williamson, who was also well known for the role of Merlin in Excalibur (1981) I am sure you have been asked this before, but when you get the chance, a review of Stanley Kubrick's The Shining would make for a great reaction video. I hope you like it.

The Gemini isn't changing shape in front of people. When he died, he possessed the corpse of Karras. Switching between Karras and the Gemini is just to show you who he's talking to (and also the fact that the whole part with it being Karras' body and the exorcism at the end were forced reshoots by the studio to make it more of an Exorcist movie; the director's cut put together the parts they still had that featured a lot more of Brad Dourif and a different ending and he definitely didn't want to waste Dourif's performance if he didn't have to). "How did he know?" was asked of the priest showing up. He wouldn't. It was a dumb bullshit reshoot forced on the movie by the studio and added in. It served no purpose and didn't make sense. That said, this is still the only good Exoricst movie and a great movie in its own right just for the dialogue that was scripted.

When Kinderman goes to the main town Priest (forget his name), they talk about how the connection between the initial murders is the Regan exorcism from the first film. In that same scene, they talk about how the hospital's priest, Ft. Morning, is seeing the patients there. It's implied that Morning knows what's going on because he visits all the patients and may have recognized Karras or deduced he was possessed anyway. It's sloppy, but it's there.

took me a while to figure out that the guy in the cell was damien karras the priest from the 1st movie, apparently when he died at the bottom of the steps in the 1st movie, the gemini killer was executed in prison at the exact same moment and his soul went into the body of the priest so in theory he didnt actually die at the bottom of the steps apparently, he was taken to the morgue but his body went missing.

Amazing and under rated movie. If you notice in the start of the movie, in the priests dream/torment with the black boy holding the rose, you see a robbed figure running back and forth. That is the nighf when the priest from excorcise 1 gets possessed by the gemini killer. The priests body is in a vegetable state for decades for it to repairs its body and brain. I liked how they didnt make this too gorey and used dialouge to scare you. But i wished they kept a few deleted scenes that where gorey. For example there was a scene where you see the priest holding his decapirated head in the confession box. Another scene at the where the demon keeps morphing into all the people he has possessed or killed (eg regan from exorcist 1)

Late reply but on the demon speaking for the detective on the phone to his wife scene: My sister had a similar incident at my grandma's house. She was speaking to a friend, the line went silent with some static, I think. Anyway when she could hear the friend again he asked "why would you say that?!" very angrily. Apparently some horrible things were said that the friend never repeated since he hung up after. A lot of paranormal events happened in that house. Another relative brought over a girlfriend who immediately felt negative energy in the house. She read palms or something, but yeah.

George C. Scott played Detective Kimble. Kimble was also in the original Exorcist but portrayed by another actor. He was the detective investigating the deaths and asked Regan's mom for an autograph. at the end of that movie he invites his friend, the priest (who dies in 3) to go see an old movie...'It's a Wonderful Life". The original ending of this movie did not have an exorcism at all. Instead Kimble arrives at the cell and just kills the Gemini Killer/Karris. The studio interfered and changed it. Original title was 'Legion' like the book but they wanted Exorcist in the title since it was marketable and they ended up filming an exorcism for the end. Also congratulations on surviving what has been considered one of the most scariest scenes in a horror movie. When the nurse gets followed out the door.
