I finally ordered a TitanLight today. I normally use a bic to light my pipe but the titan will be my new "goto". Throughout the years I've found that bic uses longer than normal flints in their lighters, so, if you come across a spent bic take the flint out and stash it in the fuel compartment of your TitanLight, Zippo or whatever lighter you'll have a longer lasting backup flint. Keep up the good work. Thank you.

Hard to find an original nowadays, but but the cheap Chinese copies are basically the same quality. I even heard the Chinese took over the original brand so technically they are the genuines now. Either that, or get a Douglass Field S if you got the money. Everything is sealed with O-rings and it has tons of nice features. Without use it will still work after a year. You could also look into Carson War Armor cases for Zippos. Thick titanium shell sealed with O-rings. Hope to have helped you! :)

I have had a zippo for a while and growing up my dad always had a zippo in his pocket. Recently I saw a hack where you cut a section of bicycle intertube about as long as the zippo and slide the zippo into the rubber sleeve which makes the lighter water proof and the fluid doesn’t evaporate so quickly.

Did you notice that my ZIppo was protected by a piece of inner tube. “Some people call it a “ranger band”, which is the term I used in the video. And, yes, it helps. Nut, as you saw, it doesn’t last forever. The Exotac outlasted it by far.

Good video. I always prefer a liquid fuel lighter because it’s often cold and/or windy where I live. I typically just make sure my zippo is full before going out. I’ve been carrying any one of a few I own daily for years and I’ve never had it leak out on me, I wonder what might have caused that issue for you. Cheaper options for preventing evaporation might be the zippo with ranger band you mentioned or a peanut lighter, though peanut lighters tend not to have the chimneys so they’re not as wind resistant. What I personally want is the Douglass field S lighter. Nifty little thing that seals up and has a few other benefits. Unfortunately it’s out of my price range lol

Hi, some people have reported an issue with the Exotac : the exotac is turning into a torch upon ignition if filled with more than 3 ml of fuel (per Exotac instructions). Did you ever encounter that issue with your demo unit?
@neologian17832 жыл бұрын
If you fill past the packing materials ability to adsorb and hold the fuel, the unbound liquid fuel can exit via the wick. The O ring keeps it in there until you remove the top and hit the flint wheel....at which time any liquid fuel is going to ignite. This is the same issue EVERY liquid fuel lighter I've ever owned has by the way. The solution is simple. Look for spillout/spillover liquid fuel before sparking......is you see some, pause 10 seconds....it'll evaporate leaving fuel on only the wick where you want it.

Being new to Zippo lighter since January this year, considering how fast the fluid evaporates, I have no clue how the hell I would ever fill a Zippo enough that the fluid stays liquid and gets on the skin, especially through Clothes. Anyone who says Zippo is the go-to standby for reliability is not serious. I can't even rely on my Zippos to light every time I turn the wheel, and I certainly can't rely on it to hold fuel for more than a week. Zippo is about the most overrated and overhyped product I've ever used. It's a 90 year-old design that was a knock-off of an Austrian design (the IMCO 2000), and the change they made in that design (changing the wick cap to a hinged lid) made the lighter worse (it's the reason Zippos evaporate so fast). Zippo hasn't improved the design in 90 years, and it shows. Zippo is a toy for teenagers who like doing Zippo tricks, or a way for nationalists to virtue signal to their friends for whom "Made in the USA" is a religion. People who want a real petroleum-based lighter use an IMCO, a Douglass Field L, or virtually any other half-decent windproof lighter.

Exotac - you lost me at aluminum. Aluminum gets hot fast. A lighter should be stainless steel or titanium, or a similar metal that doesn't conduct heat well. You lost me again when you dropped the flint. If the flint falls out that easily, you're going to lose flints, and that potentially means death in a survival situation.
