I'm convinced they just need to have the regular uncanned versions of all the canned fruits they had because rambutan and longan are my favs and I've tried jackfruit before and liked it but never had the canned versions and the way they described the jackfruit texture seems very different and I'm sure they were all a bit softer/mushier than normal.

Fun fact with dragon fruit! It's an amazing emulsifier - that means it can keep other ingredients combined when blended- and is part of why you'll see it used in a lot of things like smoothies and other drinks. It does give you good benefits and just lacks any real kind of taste.

I didn’t realise my upbringing in Australia was so tropical until now. We have all these fruits at our local supermarkets. You have to have these fresh to get the authentic experience. Those tinned fruits were probably not at all what they are supposed to be, same with the persimmons. The texture gets changed so much and makes it all metallic

I have ADHD and ASD, but instead of being food sensitive like you might expect I’m actually the kind of person who will eat anything. I’ve found a lot of cool exotic fruit that way. Lychee, rambutan, loquats, and soursop/sugarapple are my favorite. I also tried something recently I don’t even know the name of and it was the weirdest fruit I’ve ever eaten. It was kind of oval shaped, and had hard bright orange skin that you can crack off. Then inside there’s like this weird alien looking pouch, and when you cut into it there are yellow seeds. Kind of like a pomegranate but yellow. It tasted really good though. Like pineapple candy. Sometimes I can’t even believe this kind of stuff exists on earth. It’s so weird.

Fun story: i once brought dried durian to school to try with my friends and dropped one of the little packets on the floor. One of the teachers ipened it, smelled it and when the smell got stuck in her nose (which happens with durian) three people, including me, got in trouble because she thought the smell was something rotting in one of our lockers. Not only does it taste and smells gross, but it can and will ruin your life (Also no shade to people who think its good, I feel like it must be like cilantro and tastes different for different people. Its fine if you like durian💕)

i think a good starter fruit are sharon persimmons, you can get them in p much any asian store and you can eat them when still firm. theyre pretty sweet and have good flavor imo :)

This went off the rails immediately and I am so here for it. My experience of durian was that it both tasted and smelled like a dumpster full of garlic, mango, and asafetida which is sort of sulfurous. Out of these, fresh perfectly ripe lychee is the best IMO.

Most of those fruits were definitely under ripe, which is sad. Or ruined by being canned. Jackfruit isn't supposed to be stringy and dragonfruit has such an incredible sweetness to it. It's my favorite and I often get it frozen and just top it on things and munch on it as a refreshing treat. Jackfruit is supposed to taste like an in-between of banana and mango, pretty much. Same consistency as mango.
