Since I've lived in my childhood in Mongolia for 8 years, here some further information: The dumplings in the soup is called "banshtai shul" meaning soup with "bansh" which is the mongolian smaller version of the dumplings containing sheep meat, onions, and garlic. The special cooked marmot is called "khorkhog" - usually it's done with a goat or a sheep, sometimes for big festivals and it's stuffed with potatoes and carrots beside the meat and the hot stones. There is a way, pretty everyone could do this at home where u throw meat, onions, garlic, potatoes, the carrots and the hot stones into a milkcan and then boil the whole thing with the lid tight closed over the open fire. The tradition says btw, after opening the goat or the milkcan, u take those stones and jiggle them between both hands until u can hold them. For everyone who wants to try out the traditional milktea: Cook black or green tea, add the same amount of milk, cook it and add some salt to it, like 2 spoons salt on a liter tea. Drink it out of a bowl. To wish your besties a fairwell, throw some spoons of that tea over your sholder into the country side :) Still appreciated the video a lot, glad u have visit Mongolia and showed some of the nice country side to the world.

Couple things. The chewy dried mutton is a jerky and called “borts”, which is in the milk-tea dumpling soup is supposed to be dry like that. You tear off small piece off and chew on it slowly for the flavor. The marmot dish you had is very dry, and it’s not supposed to be like that. It doesn’t have a lot of meat, but the intense flavor of the meat and soup is the reason it’s a delicacy.

@jofzy8211 Жыл бұрын
FYI, this complicated way of cooking has been inherited from generation to generation all the way back from the Mongol Empire. From whole marmot and goat to any other butchered meat along with a few stones and campfire were the easiest way to cook for the nomadic
@nadirndl548
@nadirndl548 Жыл бұрын
@@jofzy8211 I get that. So are most traditional cooking methods. But this still seems like an overly complicated way to do it. Like in most cultures the most traditional way to cook meat is the most straightforward way with what's available. No shade at all, just interesting how it is so much more complex than what seems "logical" if you know what I mean.
