There’s a diversity in every country including Thailand. Some of the local’s dish is just too extreme that the urbans didnt dare to try or even knew it exists. Not every Thai eat bugs or uncooked food but if you do eat it in the public, no ones gonna stare at you. Must admit that in the past hundred years westerners had a huge influence in our culture and way of life. Some Thai are just as picky as the westerners... Me myself eat a cooked bug but I’m not really into any kind of uncooked food like raw beef or raw pork for instance. And we must notice that Thailand’s history is somehow like the UK. 200 years ago there were only Siam, Lanna and 3-4 more kingdoms. Siam which was the strongest just conquered them all and later called it Thailand. So the diversity is even more extreme in terms of language, culture and food. I must say 90% of the exotic food are from northern east part of Thailand so its normal if the people in central Thailand dont fancy some dish at all. My dad is from southern part of Thailand and he doesnt eat any kind of fresh water fish because he said it smells too fishy. ไดอารี่ตุ๊ดซี่ ไม่ได้กล่าวไว้

ThreeTots N TwoNots --- Food poisoning is due to poor temperature or expired food which causes bacterias... Not from things that seem disgusting to eat.. And obviously the food he eats are foods that thousands of ppl eat and they are pretty much all prepared fresh and cooked fresh as well..not everyone has refrigerators there either so they don't keep foods for long after they prepare it , which is another way to get sick ...

Actually, most food poisoning results from contamination by people preparing the food, not from spoilage. Food poisoning is a very valid concern for people from industrialized countries traveling in developing countries which have poorer sanitation. People who live in these countries and eat these foods develop protective immunity, which we don't have. It's true however that just because something seems gross doesn't mean it's dangerous, and just because it seems normal doesn't mean it's safe. If it's cooked well then it's not a concern, but travelers are advised not to eat anything raw (including uncooked fruits/vegetables that you haven't washed or peeled yourself).

I think the jumping shrimp actually sound really delicious. I'd probably chicken out if I was actually in the face of eating one, but they genuinely seem tasty.
