Speaking of running costs...this car brilliantly has the oil filter up top. That means you can buy your self a $50 oil extractor and there’s no excuse not to change your own oil. You don’t even have to jack the car up or get your hands dirty. That’ll be about a 60% savings.

The kids who says this car is slow, don't understand NOTHING about cars. Too much Fast & Furious and video games. The BRZ is not slow, is incredible quick in mountain curvy roads. The car was design for that kind of driving, No for straight line In a mountain road a challenger is slow, in the amazon jungle a land rover defender will be much faster than a Lamborghini. Every car have their environtment The BRZ is not a car for drag. Is not fast there. Is fast in curvy mountain roads The Challenger is not for curvy roads. Is not fast there. Is fast in straight line The Lamborghini is not fast in farm dirt roads, a Ford F-150 will be faster.. The lambo is fast in the track

Gaston Maqueda you’re exactly right. I said in another comment that I Had a 2010 Corvette Grand sport with a blower and 570hp at the wheels. The subie is way more fun to drive twisty roads with than the Vette was. Don’t get me wrong, the Vette was a blast to drive but the BRZ is built for twisty roads and it doesn’t disappoint.

got my 14 FRS in February, and have had absolutely zero issues with it except for problems with cheaply done body kit installation. so my advice would be to get your stuff done correctly. mechanically the car is sound at 13K miles so far. gas usually costs me 25 for 93 octane from gas light and if I drive it well my normal commute and daily life will give me about a weeks worth of gas. it costs me at 21 with no tickets or accidents in America, 140 a month in Washington, and 250 a month in Texas. I would suggest babying it when it is cold out because it gets kinda touchy until it is fully warmed up, but 30 seconds ish at idle usually allows me to drive it normal. overall I am extremely happy with it and plan to keep the car for a long time. also since he didn't touch on it, oil changes with the full synthetic will run you about $100 if you take it to a shop. the oil itself will only be about $20 if you do it yourself. My only problems have been with ground clearance issues due to my bodykit and the roads sucking where I currently am. just my little bit about my experience

I have a 2015 GT86 and daily drive it just like you. My commute often involves heavy traffic jam, but I found ways to deal with it and it's also an easy stick to drive. I also drive it on trips with my mountain bike in it. It actually takes quite a load! What I love most about it is the "affordable fun" makes me wanna drive more. Like you said it's not a garage queen, and with its reliability, I can have fun without worrying about breaking it. Mine has only one mod... the horn. I hate the "beep", so I changed it to "bah"! It's a bit necessary here because of the terrible road users around.

Several years ago I drove my friend to the Subaru dealer in my 2013 Scion FR-S (now called a Toyota 86 in California) to pick up his Forester after routine servicing. I parked next to a BR-Z. A Subaru salesman looked at my car and said, "Trading up eh." I just laughed, since they are essentially the same car except for minor interior differences. Funny thing is my friends Forester and my FR-S were both built at the same factory in Japan, Fuji Heavy Industries. My FR-S has the same 2L engine as a WRX without the turbo and minus a few horses which is fine with me. I don't care if the WRX beats me off the line. They also beat me to the gas station and I equal or beat them around corners, especially since I changed to Pilot Sport tires--but I don't race. And as far as looks, no contest, The WRX looks like a Impreza kicked up a notch. The FR-S, Toyota 86, BRZ is not for everybody, but I like mine, kind of like an old school English sports car, except more reliable.
@KCWhoa

The BRZ is actually the premium version. The FRS is considered the base. I drive a base Focus ST. I some times wish i got the nicer one, but its all stuff i wouldnt use anyways.
@guyfihi

I know what you mean. Probably a higher resale value with the BR-Z, but I thought more Toyota dealers around for easier service, although mine has been very reliable, just routine maintenance.. Both cars are kind of like an old school English sports car, gutless, handles well, except with more reliability. Not really gutless but some Camrys and Accords will beat it off the line, but who wants to drive those things, I'm not a grandparent yet.

I have owned a 2019 86 trd edition for about 2 months now. I agree with the other true car lovers... the 86 is nothing to scream at speed wise but it is an amazing platform for building your skill as a performance driver. Most kids buy shit thats fast and you find them in the bushes at the exit of cars and coffee because they do not posses the technical skills or respect for the power under their foot. The Toyota or suby inspires confidence with its cornering and stability. It also gives the driver the ability to really cram gears n become more efficient at rev matching double clutching and heel and toe downshifts without the crutch of too much power and too little skill. Plus its a sexy bitch too lol

They are that slow and you know it. I cant think of many cars it would beat in a straight line. Its not meant to be quick, but the only slower car i drove was a mazda suv. I drove a Hyundai Tucson suv that would spank the BRZ with its 1.6 turbo. My mothers IS250 is likely comparable and its a much nicer rwd car. I dont even bother BRZ owners with my ST. they know they arent fast. I still kind of want one though. They look like fun little drifters.

Just got a 2017 brz limited with preformance package. Drove it Across country from Colorado Rockies in Breckenridge to New Hampshire Lake winnipasuake in about 35 hours stopping only for fuel and food every 4-5 hours for no more then 20 minutes. I had to get home in a hurry and i was amazed i put 2200 miles on it running it hard up and down mountains and highways and it never skipped a beat or over heated. Absolutely amazing car. It was more comfy strangely then my 4 door jaguar x-type i traded in but the back seat is all but useless for people lol. I wish i had saved my Snap Chat story i did in every state i was in, or thoughtt to make a video i was just to tired and focusing in the drive. Not the fastest around but wouldn't you rather use all your gear almost anywhere you are if you choose too with a satisfying sound and snap, not to mention the obvious drift fun to be had. With that said the new model has a extra 5hp stock and the performance package has some other cool goodies like rims and brakes ect. Also a very gamer feeling lap and stop watch mode that is triggered with buttons on steering wheel if your ever doing laps or 0-60 ect, plus other cool performance readers. Upset they don't have gps on the video or a way to link phone gps...i mean its 2017 you cant figure that shit out? Either way what i good deal I almost leased it because of the buy option after 3 years but it was love at first site and i mean to own it out right by 2019! Cant wait to rip these windy New England roads for 6 months till i put her away for winter.

We just prepping to buy a BRZ. Manual. My wife is learning stick shift - she said the exact same thing. It’s just so much more fun in a weaker more nimble car than a giant overpowered muscle monster. At first when I told her this she didn’t understand. She said “isn’t faster better?” Nope. Not if you wanna actually enjoy playing with the car. Power monsters in manual end up just making you focus on shifting ASAP and can’t actually get any appreciation for the vehicle.

I drive for work almost everyday and Abitha hasn't disappointed even after 35,000 miles. Fuel wise, I've always used supreme and average 23-25 mpg in the city, depending on my driving. Brakes, clutch, engine and tranny are still in good condition. The only thing I can really complain about is all the shifting, she's always a joy to drive.

I agree with you that the car is fun to drive on the street exactly because it doesn't have a lot of horse power. You can push the revs up to 7,000 on shifts and zip around corners and have a lot of fun without attracting too much attention or breaking the law too badly. I pretty much agree with no modifications as well. If you want a faster car, go buy another faster car and be happy. No reason to spend a lot of money and ruin your BRZ. I have a 2017 Yellow Edition and live in California. I am also a driving instructor at Buttonwillow Raceway and when I first took the car on the track, (it was 103 deg. ambient) the oil temp went to over 270 deg. I have installed the Subaru oil cooler that goes under the oil filter and now it only gets up to about 2/3 the distance from the 270 mark and the one below it. I feel much better about running it hard in high temps now. I have only about 12,000 mi on it, but have been to the track a number of times. The tires are getting a bit worn and I am thinking of going with the Michelin Sport 4S tires when these are gone. Glad to hear you are enjoying your little BRZ. I love driving mine as well.

No. If its all straight, get anything else. My Focus ST would be much more fun. Look at G37's, 370z's, CTS V's, etc... Theres plenty nice rwd vehicles out there if thats what you're looking for. I plan on getting an SRT8 Jeep. If you havent driven one, drive one soon. Theyre amazingly fast and handle corners extremely well.

Boost Fever Personally, if I lived someplace like Fla it's what I would want for a daily driver. If I didn't have to drive in snow a lot, I'd get the slushbox. Lean the seat way back and just style that bitch around. They get good mileage if you drive mellow, and you got that Yota reliability.

If you know the history of the 86, the car is about balance. Balance in engine, weight, and agility. Being a convertible would just add weight since the car needs to be reinforced.

@TexasRevving
@TexasRevving 8 жыл бұрын
How is 205hp fun? Because it's incredibly balanced and you're able to floor it more often. Did you watch the video? I'm guessing you own a C7 Stingray from your profile. The BRZ rides no stiffer than a Stingray with magnetic ride control. After 2 years and many long trips, I think the BRZ rides great. Maybe Texas roads are just smoother, idk...

Exoticars19 unless they are chip seal. Also in Texas. More power is never a bad thing. 205 hp gets my 500lb heavier car to 80+ quite quick, but there's still too much fun using 300+ when the mood strikes. Never enough power.

BboyJJRuda get winter tires and be deliberate with what you do, it can get squirrelly but is easy to bring back into control. just don't floor it everywhere and you'll be fine. the car wants to stay in control and the traction control on it does a great job of keeping you alive.

I have a 2013 FRS, I got a pair of extra wheels and used all-season tires (on old Legacy GT wheels in fact). It worked great in the mixed winter I had. You actually have more fun in the snow and rain because you do mini drifts around the corners :) I now have Michelin Pilot Sport A/S because I had so much fun even on the "winter wheels".

Question does it cost more to maintain a Manuel since you need to change the clutch and other things like that?
@TexasRevving
@TexasRevving 8 жыл бұрын
From the time I've had it, I haven't needed to replace any parts and all still looks good now. Autos have clutches too, how often you replace it is just depends on how you drive it. If you're not good at driving manual, you'll burn through the clutch quicker.

@jerryqin4459 8 жыл бұрын
Exoticars19 i'm really scared, since the one time i drove my dad's manuel car i burnt the leather belt or something and it was not cheap to replace. That's one of the reasons im still debating on either auto or manuel.
@KCWhoa
@KCWhoa 8 жыл бұрын
If you dont know how to work on your own car, maybe. Automatics are extremely expensive to replace and many transmission shops dont bother fixing them anymore. Go manual first. You'll be a better driver from the experience. There are no leather belts, and belts are cheap and easy to replace.
