Hey there. Amazing lesson. Please make more lessons on reharmonization techniques. God bless!
@tilghmansacademyofmusic2147 Жыл бұрын
One thing you can look into (if he doesn't already have a video about reharmonization) is "chord function." The idea is that each chord (I, ii, iii, IV, V, vi, vii diminished) has a function, either tonic (home/resting), dominant (something that strongly moves to the tonic or passively moves to a sub-dominant), or sub-dominant (something that strongly moves to a dominant or passively moves to a tonic). Within this, we can substitute chords of the same function. For example, since the I and vi are both considered to have a tonic function, he was able to swap out the second C chord (the I chord) with an Am (the vi chord). The second thing is what he also mentioned about the ii, V, I of wherever you are going. So for the C to F chord (I to IV), he knew he was going to an F chord, so he played ii, V, I in the key of F (or Gm, C, F). The third thing he mentions is the extensions (7ths, 9ths, 11ths, 13ths). Add those as well to each of the chords and you get a much jazzier sound. However, a bit of advice is to only begin by adding the 7ths of chords and avoid 9ths, 11ths, and 13ths. For example, instead of playing C, Dm, Em, F, G, Am, Bdim (I, ii, iii, IV, V, vi, viidim), you swap those out for Cmaj7, Dm7, Em7, Fmaj7, G7, Am7, B half diminished 7. This carries over to all keys as well, the order of chords will remain the same. I know this is a lot, and that most of it is just summarizing what was already said in the video, but feel free to reach out if you have any questions on any of it.

Awesome content thank you Davin! If you are beginner-intermediate like me watching this, no, you can’t possibly start adding all of these to your playing today without your fundamentals . This lesson is a summary of fundamentals you need to know. Chord extensions (7th, 9th, 11th, 13th), Passing Chords, Inversions, Chord Substitutions, Inner voicing. The stuff from this lesson isn’t difficult at all, but you need fundamentals to be able to understand and play consistently in all 12 keys and all your songs with this. Please consider signing up for fundamentals from Davin. I am committed somewhere but as soon as I am through, I will be supporting Davin as I learn a lot from him on the channel and WLH.

Very good the video and the way of teaching. The only thing that I cannot follow well the notes and chords because the program you are using marks all the notes you are playing in blue and they are mixed. Otherwise, all good. I think the program allows you to correct this, of course if you wish. Thanks for the videos

Great stuff but that final chord is a minor 6th right?

What are the notes, what is the bass note?
@alamolalamol94263 жыл бұрын
@@PlayCreatively Hey thanks for replying! It’s where you talk about inner voicings and your use of 6ths. The distance between G and E, F and D is a 6th but E to C is a minor 6th or sharp 5 (enharmonic) so you are correct really. It’s just that the first two are majors and the last one a minor. My bad!
@PlayCreatively3 жыл бұрын
@@alamolalamol9426 within the key it’s a 6th, that’s the principle I understand.
