Great idea, I like the way you're mitigating the disease risk by have apiaries and NUC yards in very rural locations and well apart from each other. If I could do that I would do the same however, living in an overpopulated area like the south east makes this impossible. So well done identifying the risk and finding a way to mitigate that risk. Looking forward to seeing how this part of the business pans out.

It's a wise move, bio security is 9:13 paramount. If one site goes down you'll always have a backup. Plus the forage in the forest should be excellent .

Definitely the right move. Not keeping all your eggs in one basket. And I think this year is proving that you can't rely on honey for an income . Look how much Laurance is making on nucs

Good thinking, Gruff. As a beekeeper all you can do is to be vigilant to identify EFB and prevent further spread but it is difficult to protect the site if the EFB is in the area. A multiple site will protect the investment

Love the new site I think it’s a good idea to have a site separate from your other nucs

Hi, good to see you expanding. Have you thought about giving Caucasian bees a try? I'm at a high altitude, it's always windy and wet and cold where I live and this year my Caucasian bees have thrived when my other bees are struggling. Just a suggestion as looking at where you are they may be worth considering.

I’ve never tried those queens. I’m pretty happy with my buckfast

Where do you get your queens from?
@Markp53374 ай бұрын
We’ve thought about these this year, we get the heather around us and there meant to be good for this.

@@Markp5337 Hi Mark, just giving you an update on my Caucasian bees, over the last month the weather has been bad, cold, windy and wet. The Caucasian hive has thrived, they even fly in the rain. I put the queen in the hive in May, which had four frames of bees and no brood. I've just taken three frames for a nuc and still have twelve frames of bees so I'm double brooding. Judging by your company name you are just up the valley from Llangollen where my brother in law lives.

@@GAParkinson-qy8ol hi, that's great to hear, ours is in a hive about to be released from slow introduction cage might get some of her brood hatch for the heather. Yes, not far from Llangollen, higher ground so alot colder and wetter. Do you get heather around you? Let me know how you get on.

I currently have 6 hives but I would like to have 40 colonies. How many colonies could I have on an apiary and how many apiaries would you recommend for me to have?

Can EFB not spread through the back of your truck etc?
@gwenyngruffydd4 ай бұрын
Yes if you have it. I don’t thankfully. But even if I did you can wash and disinfect the truck to get rid of it and keep kit separate
