The relevance of the X-Ray scene is that Holden only signed up to the Canterbury because of "free room and board, salary, and little to no responsibility." How ironic is that he's become responsible for a lot of stuff, including saving the human race on more than one occasion.

I mean, it's crazy irony even before the events of the show. Holden was next in line to become XO of Canterbury, there's no way he had little to no responsibility for at least couple years before that. Of course Holden's CV as officer of UNN might have given some weight for the fast track, but still.

also "we're all the same people" - something Holden understood even back then

I wish we got so much more of Drummer and Naomi and the scene wasn’t written to indicate she came to see her only as an envoy. That’s BS. Those women love each other

5:24 And there you have it: The thing that was delivered from the Laconia System ("Martian design, made of a metal we've never seen before") by tugboat drones (many small drive plumes) at the end of 6x03 (video message to Inaros from Medina Station) was not a ship but one of those giant railguns ("RSR-G6" is likely short for "Ring Station Rail-Gun 6") that they attached to massive titanium bands (titanium shortages were mentioned in 6x01) laid over the Ring Station sphere, providing 360-degree coverage and no recoil from firing.

To clarify; Laconia is not the capitol of Sparta. Sparta is the city state, Laconia is the region of Greece where it is situated. your conclusion about the mentality behind choosing the name for their planet / System stands, they are a military nation

And Monica recorded the entire meeting between Chrisjen Avarsarela and Camina Drummer. You can bet that is going to be broadcast everywhere and will highlight that the Belters are their own command, independent of both Mars and the UN.

Great reaction and discussion guys! The last scene between two most powerful people! Queen of Earth and Pirate Queen of the Belt! Awesome! The scene between Drummer and Naomi was extremely powerful! The scene between Amos and Bobbie was short but spoke volumes! I've been here since the beginning! I want to say that Joe has done a great job bringing Mike and Mikey into this world! As a Screaming Firehawk I want to say thank you for giving our beloved show some love!! Looking forward to the bittersweet end!! 😢

Amos has always latched onto someone who is unimpeachably moral, because he struggles to tell right from wrong, but wants to do right. It was Naomi to start with, until she gave the protomolecule to Fred Johnson, and since then, he's relied on Holden. Holden's actions really shook Amos, because it was enormously selfish, and shook Amos' trust in Holden. Bobbi and Amos' conversation was essentially Amos realising nobody's perfect and that it's up to him to decide what to do, and that you have to stick with your chosen family based on who they are, not what they can do for you. Our li'l boy is all grown up. With Filip, as well, Marco convinced him that leaving Ceres to starve was because "they are not like us" convincing him of some arbitrary division between Us and Them, but here's Filip's new friend with his brother on Ceres, who is responsible for the actions he committed. Filip's got to be asking himself "how many of my 'brothers' have I killed? If we are no different from the Ceres belters, are we really all that different from anyone?" "100 years of oppression made some like Marco inevitable" is the hardest line in the whole series, imo. Drummer is pointing out this is entirely the inners fault, and everything they've suffered is a direct consequence of mistreating the Belters. She's cold as steel here, and sharp as a knife. Ashford would be proud.

I always perceived the title "Why We Fight" as an hommage to Band of Brothers episode. Not only relief efforts from Drummer is a direct analogy for liberated camp, but the feel of the whole episode is quite similar, filled with both frustration, anger and glimpses of hope for the war to end soon

And there you go, Mikey. In case you don't remember, a few episodes ago, you said something about maybe the ring eats the ships once too many have gone through. That's a paraphrase because I'm too lazy to go back and find the exact episode and what you actually said. I was like DOHHHHHH, Mikey!!!! You have a very lively tinfoil hat, but sometimes you manage to grab onto something with precision! I'm so sad this is going to be over. But I really enjoyed Battlestar Galactica, so I'll be joining you for that. I loved every season of The Expanse, but season 3 was my 3rd favorite, then season 6 with season 5 being my all-time fave. But season 5 isn't all that far ahead of 6. Again, I'm so glad you guys enjoyed this show so much and hope that you'll enjoy the next one as well. ❤

I have to admit it is nice that you've moved to rewatching the show in addition to reacting. The Expanse is exceptional sf show, something which might be seen as defining a decade of science fiction on screen. This episode is like a calm moment before the storm and when thinking about its title I believe I originally thought about Filip - given the reaction from the end of the previous episode. Only later I thought it was mainly about Drummer. Her decision might define the war because this way the Belt ceases to be a unified force supporting Marco Inaros and the Belters might finally have a leader or a martyr fighting for a different future - I guess something what Ashford believed possible. Laconia, Sparta, Gaugamela, Xerxes, Scipio Africanus, Pella, Granicus - just a couple of names from ancient history of Earth which for some reason found themselves mainly in names of Martian ships. I do not think it is a coincidence and is a reflection of the Martian desire to create a new Earth on a different planet. Sadly it is mostly the warlike past which is reflected in those names and I shudder to think what could come from a hard core militarised faction of Martians and protomolecule technology. Marco's railguns. The railguns in the ringspace are not only massive, but with infinite inertia they can fire REALLY quickly with sufficient ammunition supplies. In the last episode of the 5th season we could observe how quickly Rocinante destroyed the large frigate - there were several shots fired in seconds. That means the massive railguns, fast shooting on the ringstation are incredibly dangerous, yet... their deployment means destroying even one could provide a good blind spot to explore in a battle. However with the Free Navy fleet protecting them it is almost impossible to break through the defence, which would make Marco Inaros the person who will be a master of 1300+ colonies... Unless Laconia has something to use against him... We do not really know what is the idea with the massive, protomolecule ship/station over that planet. Avasarala and Drummer. That is very unlikely alliance forced by circumstances and a single misstep can destroy it - friendly fire during a battle for exaple might lead to a disaster. I kinda dislike the moment when the administrator of Ceres acted almost like Inaros troll teasing Drummer. Which is a bit weird given how responsible the character seemed to be in other scenes, yet that is pivotal time in the history of the Belt and emotions run high. I like how Avasarala described herself in the moment which will surely define the future of the Solar System if Inaros is defeated. She is much different person and regardless what is going to happen with her she represents the future in addition to the past. Holden. The guy is like purpose built by his parents and circumstances to be the best person to make very hard decisions in circumstances where something can mean the end of humanity. If there is someone who could deal with the entities in the ring he is on a very short list of candidates. The Space Dragons. Contacting different forms of intelligence is hard to imagine. If there are similar corcumstances they can lead to a similar form of civilisation, but the entities in the Ring are a different thing altogether. Frankly we do not even know if they are alive in a sense we could understand. Understanding them could take decades anti-Inaros coalition doesn't have. The last episode is a hell of a ride, so I can't wait to see your reactions to that! Take care!

We will miss these long comments. To hone in specifically, Mike is showing his friends the expanse and Mikey has his mom on season 3 already. Re watching shows so many things! Re the administrator : she seemed like a troll, it felt really weird with her doing that after the belter tells Drummer she is important and has more things to do!

@@732ReviewCrew Battlestar Galactica was only beaten on my personal list of the best of sf in space by the Expanse in the 5th season, but yes I'll most likely will write shorter comments under those videos, because that show is considerably different - more focused I guess. Anyway you've encouraged me to read in February the 6-9th book in the Expanse series, but that will happen after I am done with the final volume of the Siege of Terra, so Warhammer's Horus Heresy.

Naomi's not stupid. She knows Drummer loves her, and she knows Drummer can't say "no" to her. She has good reason to use that at Holden's request, but she knows she's abusing Drummer. But that scene as well as the awesome meeting of Avasarala and Drummer is The Expanse succeeding gloriously with "girl power" that Disney has been failing to do. The Martian military on Laconia (Duarte's faction) certainly knows that a capital ship carrying one of their own admirals is missing. Mike is surely correct. The Martian renegades would be tight-lipped about all military information. We've only seen Laconia from the point of view of civilian scientists (and their children, at that), who would not have access to that kind of information. Who would die? We've seen Drummer attempt sacrifice twice, and she's said there was no place for her in the universe. They've also shown us Avasarala has a medical problem. When has this show put a gun on the coffee table and not used it?

Except the Laconia scenes are critical to understanding the tech buildup that produced the railguns, and helps you understand exactly what is happening behind that ring. I promise, you aint crap when it comes to acting, so maybe cut the young actors some slack. In addition, all the content with Bobby in Season 4 is from the novella "Gods of Risk", since NOTHING happened anywhere but Ilus in book 4. It went to helping TV viewers understanding what is happening on Mars, in terms of buildup to the Fascist Martians breaking away and enabling Inaros with advanced Martian ships, so it is completely sensible and precedented for the producers to give us another critical backstory from the novella Strange Dogs to help build up what the finale will bring, etc. Remember that the books/novellas were written before anyone had an idea that this mega series would be produced, let alone get 6 seasons.
