Came to live in ghana from the uk when my son was 4 yrs. We used to go back regularily. Recently we went back and he was like a fish out of water. I noticed as he got older and older, the uk became less attractive for him. I never really had any issues of him missing things in the uk because he was so young and all he needed at that time was his mummy. You will find as time goes on the tables will turn for them and ghana will become there main focus.

Uh oh. I was going to suggest that. It is easy. Try baked Mac and cheese 🧀 you can go wrong. So may videos on KZbin. There is a way to Mac your own cheese sauce. I am not good with that one but my 13 yr client when I worked at a group home mastered it. You won’t make box Mac and cheese or velveeta either. Just practice that is how I learned baked Mac and cheese. And you can change it added keilbosa sausages if you can find some

If you are still looking for schools for your kids, I will recommend SOS, GIS and Galaxy International. They are more American based, however they blend the Ghanaian curriculum as well, and I believe the kids would love it. I know you mentioned you prefer schools within Tema, but don't be too fixed on location provided its a good school your kids like and its within Accra. The driving time back and forth is just a small price to pay as compared to the joy your kids will derive (socializing with other kids, etc). I would have mentioned Lincoln, but their fees are ridiculously expensive. All the same I hope you find this information useful.

One personal advice, you will have to put up with what you find locally. Good and bad, remember what africans go through when they live overseas. Your home is your home and a foreign country isn't it. However, you can make it your home only if you are willing to go with what you have. 😉I believe you guys can do it 💪🏾

Aww such awesome children having a special experience. I started following your family just before you left US. As a grandparent with boys similar ages as Leo and Luke. It was the beginning of the pandemic and I had plans to repatriate encouraged by your journey. I started to imagine what life could be like for my own grandchildren if I had them visit me I. Ghana or Gambia. Now am still stuck here 🇬🇧. I recall how I imagined transitioning with my allotment garden and getting the grandchildren involved as I felt they would benefit and learn a lot more from the outdoor activity whilst settling into a FREE (organic lifestyle) . I had visions of (for example) growing vegetable in raised beds and recycling all the vegetable kitchen waste as compost as I have learnt to do here in my back garden.

Hey! I think it was very courageous and encouraging for you guys to let the boys express themselves. Yours is a wonderful family because you both are wonderful parents! So often we as adults, when it comes to children, sadly think they have no opinions and keep them bottled up and frustrated --- Nevertheless, we coerce their participation and when they become adults and express their opinions about something we thought was absolutely correct during their childhood, we're surprised, dismayed, even hurt, by their opinion(s). Giving them the freedom and trust at an early age to be open about family matters, especially one as significant as moving to another country, is simply wonderful. And in the long run healthy for the entire family.

HEAR, here, and none too soon. Those kids are photogenic, intelligent and well spoken. And when you feature them next please allow them to choose the topic/s and "have the floor to themselves" (so to say).

@@ExpatLifeGhana I’ve been missing out on time with my youngest nephews due to Covid. One just turned 7 and the other will be 3 soon. I love their creative honesty. It was sweet seeing their interaction. ❤️

For me the WiFi situation is my deal breaker for ever considering moving to Ghana. I can't stress enough how important having a good internet service is.
@georgebanin48123 жыл бұрын
Depends on where you live, we do have good internet here in some parts
@ExpatLifeGhana3 жыл бұрын
@Fred -We are fortunate to not have our lives revolve around sitting in front of a screen. If a deal breaker is the internet, you for sure would miss everything Ghana has to offer and thanks for the comment 😊!

@@ExpatLifeGhana My issue is the lack of consistency when it's actually needed at the time I need it. On my last visit to Ghana at certain times I was really frustrated with service issues and it happened a lot within a months visit. So that's why I said deal breaker for moving there permanently if I ever wanted to. l absolutely enjoy myself on every trip I take to Ghana, it's just that the internet thing is a pet peeve of mine. Anyway am glad you and your family enjoying every minute of your stay in Ghana.

So Ayo, sunglasses in Ghana is worn to be stylish! .yep! So often folks don't wear them cos they will be seen as being ' vain'. The interesting thing is we need to wear them for practical reasons--to keep the sun's glare from the eyes. I advised my 85 year old mom to do so for those practical reasons and she's been wearing them ever since. She says it has helped with her vision. We get a lot of cataracts in Ghana as result of the sun.

Oh dear. I shipped everything my kids used when we moved just because I knew the quality of toys and prices and for me it was to help them settle down. Something familiar for them. The kids around us had tons of toys so it worked out.
@ExpatLifeGhana3 жыл бұрын
@Talu J - Totally understandable, we just didn't expect such of a price increase from the last time we were here. They seem to be adjusting better with the more trips we take out of the city. New places are a great way to peak interest and thanks for the comment 😊!

Thank you for asking the Luke about being light-skinned in Ghana. My husband was wondering the same thing. I'm a brownie so I would blend right on in. My husband is light-skinned. He would definitely stick out! LOL!!!!
