I think Ghana (and Afrika) is for 2 types of ppl:People with a NICE retirement and People who are bootstrappers,entrepeneurs and adaptable to conditions on the ground.

ghana, and africa in general, is becoming a land of opportunity. in some respects, there are countries in africa that offer more opportunity than you will find in ameriKKKa. but it is rough and tumble business, where you have to make your way instead of looking for it to be handed to you. if all i wanted to do was retire, i'm not sure that ghana would be at the top of my list.

THANK YOU @shhagley However you can speak on some places here in the states. The example they gave about Florida. An old fiend/coworker from San Diego California moved there and quickly realized that her expectations to have the same lifestyle as in San Diego was NOT THE SAME. She loved the lifestyle opportunities that were not the same there in Florida. Same for me I have set my sights on St Petersburg FLORIDA. When I researched it realized what I liked to do was not offered there at that time. Years later I meant someone who was born and raised there. He laughed at me when I told him I actually had prepared myself to move there. He quickly told me that knowing me now and if I was the same as when I thought about moving I would have been miserable. Confirmation - to what I had to research and had to be honest about myself

The biggest point made is making sure you visit.....more than once. So far I've visited Ghana twice and this past December, I saw and experienced things that I did not in August 2019. The novelty wore off with this last trip and I saw the reality of some things, people and business dealings. I still like Ghana but I'm not totally sold and think I'll visit other countries before I commit to anything.

You absolutely see things you didn’t see the first time around when you visit, especially when your first visit is two weeks and your second visit is 10 months. The rose-colored glass came off. That said, I’m still sold on Ghana, especially Cape Coast & Elmina.

Africa is for Diaspora pioneers, it's good to take a break in Africa, to go on a pilgrimage, but life in a developing country is for pioneers who are ready to adapt and grow with that country, Bless Up Tony and Iao, live and learn.

@SatelliteOffice Now existent? if you can afford 5 star holidays take them wherever, Africa has plenty of 5 star facilities. I was referring more to resettling/repatriating/going back home to work, and not at such a high level. I have never been a tourist and I have had to work for a living and have hopefully been an asset to the country, rather than using my western status as an asset.
@IsaacSamuelTuray
@IsaacSamuelTuray 3 жыл бұрын
@SatelliteOffice That's good, I myself worked with corporates and government in Africa and I agree there is not only one level of life in Africa. sorry if I slightly misunderstood your first reply. I myself was surrounded by people I much respected and admired for their skills and capabilities and I felt that I fitted in very well, although I was not as rich as most of my friends in Africa they always treated me with respect, and I didn't miss anything about the UK, except obviously my family and friends. Sounds like your in a good position and I know you must deserve to be. I spent 3 years in Ghana and 13 in Gambia but went to the UK in 2017 due to political changes in Gambia that saw a lot of people including myself basically blacklisted and unable to get work. Need to get back to Ghana.

@Isaac Turay -It definitely isn't for the colonized mind thinking you explored Africa when you stayed in 5 star accommodations while there. @@ExpatLifeGhana Hi Thank you, I wouldn't say I lived in 5 star accommodation, only stayed in a hotel for a week in Gambia, not at all in Ghana, it wasn't 5 star but nice, I had links in Ghana. I did live in the city area, in Ghana and in Gambia amongst hardworking enterprising people with a positive mind set, and coming from a circle like that myself in the UK I knew when I went to Africa like anywhere else if you mix with the right people, people going in the same direction with the same level of aspiration and motivation, hard work, skills and ability, it can work, and you will be excepted for your worth and have access to involvement at all levels that we don't have in the UK. Believe me, I respect everyone who deserves respect rich or poor, I started with nothing in Africa after a divorce in the UK and lived well working in the media. could be the best way to start, you have to get involved and work.

You both are so right about expectations when being in another country. When I'm in Africa doing volunteer work, there are a lot of people from the US also volunteering, whether building schools, shops, orphanages, working with the people etc. They start off being excited about being over there. Some even talk about moving over there permanently in order to do missions there. But after a few days of being over there, many have expressed their disappointments - because they expected more of carefree easy living. They see pictures, videos, etc. of the carefree, laid-back - almost like they expect their lives to be on a permanent vacation. I've seen many younger mission volunteers in their 20's break down and cry, feeling overwhelmed, wanting to go back to the States. You are also sooo right with people needing to understanding the culture. I've experienced people's attitudes from the States clashing with the African culture. The US volunteers looked negatively at the African people and their culture, while volunteering. Many volunteers from the US made stereotypical Black/African remarks not only about the people but also to the people. So I'm always trying to get the word out to those going over there to volunteer, plan on vacationing, moving etc. - study the culture/people before you go, be sensitive, positive, respectable and appreciative.🌺 You All Are Way Too Funny!🤣

While your point is well-taken, having more up-to-date tools may help to get the job done more quickly, it could result in greater productivity, which could result in being called upon to perform more tasks for other persons/businesses, which might require more manpower (workers)notwithstanding the upgrade in tools,.

Awesome video as usual, guys. I wanted to mention that I'm coming to settle next week, as a Ghanaian who left almost 40 year ago for the US. Seven so, I has to come back home to visit family about 4 tomes over the course of 10 years to acclimatize with being Ghanaian again. However, I have a few things doing for me; 1) my little brother was and still is my main contact for all things, house/apartment/land/business contact, you name it. So, yes, it's really prudent to visit a few times to get rooted into Ghana and try to shake of the American expectations before making any permanent move to Ghana. My brother can be one if the contact persons here who can get you immersed in getting your bearings before moving here. He's helped me with becoming a Ghanaian again (dual citizenship), documents for any business dealings, etc because he “KNOWS PEOPLE”

Great relevant comments. We must be careful when we look at workers and imagine how much more could be done with specialty tools. There are not sufficient jobs for people who need to work and no social safety net. Tools reduce the number of work hours which means fewer people get a chance to earn something. Unemployment especially among youth is the greatest threat to social stability. As the economy expands and development provides jobs, tools will be more in demand to offset the lower availability of labour.

One thing about people inviting you to eat is: sometimes they invite you because it is not nice not invite people around you but it doesn't really mean they would like you to join. But when the go further to offer you a seat a the table or say wash your hands and join me then they really want you to. You accepting to join or refusing depends on your personal discipline and the relation you have with who invited you. I don't know if that makes sense; stay bless lovely couple 😘

That distinction between simple and easy - that was golden, and I totally agree. Ghana is an acquired "taste" for sure. At the end of the day, it's a developing nation, and when you're there, you can feel it, see it, and experience it. People work so hard there. I think the government is also indebted to big predatory financial systems like the World Bank and high quality jobs don't really exist so people are hustling and working so hard there just to survive. It's a lot but at the end of the day, Ghana is still developing and you have to appreciate from that stand point as you ask are alluding. What I appreciate about Ghana is the peace that exists there in comparison to other developing nations and that people (while super reserved and at times not very expressive lol) are hard working, diligent, and decent.

Both of you are natural teachers. You are very comprehensive and concise when explaining things. I find it really easy to imagine life in Ghana because of the way you explain it. It's easy to understand. Your videos are like Life Coach sessions meets TED Talks seminars. When you are critical it is very constructive and it is for a reason. So, thank you for being really respectful of Ghanaians and the Ghanaian way of life.
