I lived in Germany for 3 years and The only thing I missed was Starbucks. Everything was the same. Restaurants, trains, fashion, English speaking, online dating, so you get my point. I never realized there was so much difference in Ghana and now i am going to think of going to South Africa, Cape Town. I cant deal with no hot water. I also am from NY and cant stand driving. I must say that these two make such a beautiful couple. Let me start by repeating that the most common mistake African Americans make when they visit Ghana is attempting to live like they do in America. Most of them limit their trips to the tourist areas in Accra and Cape and fail to take advantage of the other cities and towns. Even at Accra they choose to book rooms at 4 and 5 stars hotels and eat at plush restaurants. This does not only cost so much more but completely reduces their exposure to the real Ghana and Ghanaians.Ghana is a very safe country and these are your people so take a chance and go on a real adventure.Get to know the people, take the Trotros and "One man -one seat",make friends and live life without fear at least for a while. Also have the American embassy 's phone number handy just in case you need them as many Americans did to help arrange for their return trips to America at the onset of covid-19 pandemic. The embassy has an excellent working relationship with our Government.Akwaaba to Ghana.

To think of it, Ghana and rest of Africa are still developing nations on different spectrum of the developmental wavelength. The great America became a nation in 1776, it took them 144 years to enter the first stage of being developed in the 1920's-industrialization. Most African countries gained their independence 60 years or below. You shouldn't expect the same amenities and developments you'd expect in the West. That's a no brainer. What you should expect is creating opportunities for others and yourself in the process. Under developed means more developmental opportunities you could grasp, in essence creating a sit at the table.

Hot water is not part of Ghanaian life. Ghana sit on the equator so it is hot all year round with the exception of December and January which has a spring like weather. So the water that comes out of the taps are already warm, so it is not part of the culture to build houses and incorporate hot water systems into it, however now that westerners are coming in, this hot water thing is gradually being added to the new buildings. The first thing a Ghanaian will asked a young person who want to bath with hot water is, are you sick? It is ONLY old people that their families boil them hot water to bath, also the tribes that live on mountain also boil water for bathing.

If you can't go and help go from outhouse to housing development, then stay home because they have plenty of people to take care of, and that's what most Service businesses are, businesses that depend on strong, repetitive markets. @Chris JT ghana and *some* of these West Africans do have good electricity they might have few power outages for like 30 mins but the power outages do not last long and east Africa does have power outages as well. I know for fact that kenya and Uganda have power outages as well it's not just west Africa. And the reason why southern Africa like South Africa, Namibia and Botswana are *more* developed is because the ppl that run those countries aren't blk ppl the minority (white folks) that live there *control* those countries and their resources. In east Africa you have a lot of foreigners that live there as well that go to places like Kenya, Angola, Tanzania and do more business over there and this help those nations become more advanced compared to west Africa. In West Africa alot of our country are controlled by France so it's hard for them to be more advanced because these West African countries give France $500 billion to france and they benefit from it so it's hard for them to catch up when France is so heavily involved in west Africa. 🙁🙁

This can be done with 100% remote jobs, passive income from paid real estate, income from inventions, income from brick and mortar businesses, income from online businesses. I learned so much from my continental brothers and sisters and I'm still learning. One thing I will say is the I love Africa for being Africa with all the beauty and culture and vibrancy. I don't want it to be America or Europe or Ukkk. I know that all nations are developing in their own complex environs with their own challenges. Especially with the colonial legacy of imperialism and chattel slavery . The financial legacy of exploitation and theft of resources by the colonisers. Does not create an equal footing. In this context is how we live . Africa is a huge continent with many beautiful countries. Each one is different so travel around and enjoy the experience. Moving to Gambia won't work right now for Black Americans because Gambia invites white people and other races in their country so if Black Americans go over their it's going to be like Ameri... all over again in a few years. No different. Full of Asian owned restaurants, WHITE OWNED BUSINESSES, ETC. and who would profit the most off that ??? it won't be the Gambians it would be those owning it and sending most of the money back to their own countries and only hiring their own. I know land their might be cheap and black people may have a dream of spending less but some people of other races may be traveling their for all the wrong reasons and real intention is to conquer. What land haven't they conquered because a nation of people don't put themselves first.... white people put their own first, asians also but what about black people and that's why i feel it's not a good time for AA to just take off and move to Gambia. Will the law there protect our children, ect.... these are questions we have to ask ourselves because if this race mixing keeps happening in gambia sooner or later it will be just like Latin Ameri... where there's lesser dark colored people being treated with dignity and respect... they'll be so mixed out of existence along with their identity and culture that a presumably white male that's 20% gambian could claim to be a gambian and then become king and then make it even more harder for darker skinned citizens of that land. Things such as that happened to the original Native Americans who where very dark skinned people and now some of them are in the kk? claiming to be white, and then the original chinese who where black, they now live in the mountain tops in china because the lighter skinned chinese banned them , call them names and show them so much racism. If this keeps going on they'll be no more lions left in Africa, white tourist are wiping them out for profit along with zebras for cloths, hippos a new craze in european countries for profit and elephant tusk also the natural trees. sooner or later Africa as a whole will become the next thailand where other races just think they could walk all over dark skin people... BECAUSE OF THE LEADERS, GAMBIANS NEED TO SPEAK UP TO THEIR LEADERS !!!!!!!, NOT JUST GAMBIANS BUT ALL AFRICANS... its the only way for them to rise up as a people and put their own people first, that's the only way

Expat Life Ghana It looks to me that Africa deals with racism and colorism. I’ve seen a lot of videos of African Americans that have gone to live in Africa. They’ve talked about how unsanitary conditions are, they’ve talked about and showed pictures of old white men with young black children. They said there’s a lot of selling themselves and their children for sex. How could people do that to their own children? They say that healthcare is bad there. I’ve heard that the light go out without notice. Mold on the ceilings of the houses and the shower water runs on the toilet🤮. Scamming, pickpockets, merchants charges double the prices to African Americans. People say the meat is so bad that flies fly around it. And they say cooks at the restaurant doesn’t wash their hands when they cook your food. So, yes I’d rather have my comfort. I’ve met people from Africa and they say that Africans don’t even consider us African Americans as being BLACK like them. So, why should I want to live there with people that LOOKS like me that think they’re better than me??

This was a great video, you guys. I lived in Ghana in 2005 while I was working for an NGO in the Volta Region {Keta District to be specific}, although I would come to Accra frequently. I've always thought about coming back and imagined that I might retire there someday. But it's been 15 years since I set foot on Ghanian soil, so I'd be interested in what the opportunities are currently, particularly for people like me who work in media. Given the tense climate in the states, Ghana is really looking appealing these days. Side note: I had to take "bucket baths" too, but I didn't mind it. I had no problem roughing it because well water really wasn't too bad. Plus I knew I was living in a developing nation, so I forgot about acting like I was in America.

I think the only category of person you mentioned who should consider not living in Ghana is someone from the LGBT community. And even then, if they are celibate, and don't exhibit an LGBT lifestyle there, it can work for them. Some elders want to rest with their ancestors on African soil, so even if they are ill, they want to spend their last days on the land of their ancestors and be laid to rest there. And life can bring changes, you might be married or in a couple when you arrive in Ghana, but things happen and you might suddenly find yourself a single woman/widow, so you have to prepare for the future. And you might arrive there broke, but be rich within a year. I would say go for it if this is your dream.

Excellent advice. Could you now do a video for persons who want to go to Ghana, have no money, but have skills and ideas. For example, I believe anyone with IT or Actuary skills would find great demand in Ghana. Provide as much advice as you can to AA about skills they might acquire in the US, that will allow them to be independent contractors. Such as, heavy machinery repairs, plumbers, carpenters etc. Although I am Jamaican, I feel confident that there are many poor AA desperate to leave hell for somewhere they will find kinship and acceptance. Many African KZbinrs complain about reliability of WiFi speeds for example. Having been to Ghana, explain to AA with some resources how you feel about the potential for a grouping of persons pooling their funds, maybe borrowing a bit, and possibly establishing an alternative faster network for Accra first, and then expanding as able. I am not comfortable hearing advice of exclusion. Provide some hope based on your experience of the environment. Ivy Prosper, I note your comment from a day ago, so I am including you in this endeavour.

I'm from The States... I've been living in Accra since 2016, some truth's here BUT don't mislead as if JOBS are available here....there are NO jobs here, Americans are expected to have money and the corruption towards foreigners is ridiculous... I'm a fitness specialist , started my own online business or I would have mist certainly starved here...I budgeted and saved for two years before relocating to Ghana, But that savings went quick...I love the country , the land I purchased and the business I've started , but the PEOPLE are not so welcoming to African Americans, White people,Chinese People and other foreign folks get more respect for their uncouth behavior, Ghanaians can be rude and very standoffish to blacks from other countries. I too blog about my life here and I mainly wish for more African Americans to come and establish communities like everyone does when the arrive in our country, for there to be so many African Americans here, you don't see us together ,it's as if many wanna be the only ones here and neglect to connect with one another which is crucial to our staying here. Many I know have gone some vow not to return to this particular country in Africa because of the lack of respect for African Americans. You don't have to discouraging in hi lighting the facts of the land. My son has just graduated from HS here...I stay because HE'S SAFE and very free to roam without worrying. I'm here ,I have been for quite sometime, my mission now is to connect and build with those who are from where I'm from, structure some relationships with other African Americans here and coming...

It's not their job to build park in Ghana. Ghanaian citizens must build parks.
