The rent seems high. Not sure about the commercial but it would seem if she was going to rent the upstairs it should be around 350 tops. For $600 you can rent a large home with a yard.

I'm sorry it isn't that everything might be going up a little bit it's going up tremendously so much you don't even see indigenous people in the streets besides on Market day like you used to. One of the reasons is your first couple with the restaurant they are way over paying so the locals eventually can't afford to live in Cuenca. I remember it the way it used to be and I loved it much better than I do now. All I can say is please don't change my country to much and for God's sake don't just pay anything they ask because it's much better than it is in the USA. Check out the prices before you rent or buy so everything wont eventually be as expensive as it is here where you can't even buy fruit due to the prices.

If you think about it isn't the same thing that happened to the US. My parents left Ecuador for the same reason this people left the US . I have been in NY for over 25 years now and you can see how people from Europe come here and pay pretty over pay for any residential and commercial space and drive the price up.

Sorry for the late response hahaa I've been living in Egypt. Yes, you are correct but two wrongs don't make a right. Just hoping they listen and not fall into just paying whatever is asked. There are so many other aspects I won't even get into. :) Viva Ecuador!

puttytat007 ........Good comments putty. Ecuadorians appreciate hagglers and negotiators. But how can we ever teach some who can’t ,or refuse, to advance themselves into a new language, how can we teach them to negotiate ? I regard them as very low class and I won’t even associate with them and I am a very down to earth person. I’ve been here in Ecuador since Jan 12. I will never even once visit Cuenca nor Vilcabama. If I want to see deplorables I’d just KZbin Spanky .rallies.

Great video...i really like this one especially because of the husband and wife keeping it real. I hope she is not a smoker because that cough was sounding pretty rough. My only complaint. The cameraman ALWAYS keeps the camera to close to the subjects face and it becomes annoying most of the time. And What about some surrounding video of the businesses when talking to the owners and the homes and neighborhood when you are talking to residents.

Most of these people in this video are inflating what they spend per month or maybe they're on point, but there's no reason why a person should spend $1600-2000 dollars a month in a Latin American I'm sure you can live on half of that.

I enjoyed this clip....but since it is two years old I googled roux bar and restaurant in Cuenca to see how they were doing now. Was disappointed to see they have closed. (www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g294309-d4552157-Reviews-Roux_Bar_and_Bistro-Cuenca_Azuay_Province.html) Can anyone confirm that? And if they did close - does anyone know why? Abby in the video says they were doing exceedingly well....what went wrong? Just curious. Thank you!
