Check out the Exped MegaMat Max 15 here:
www.snowys.com.au/search?w=ex...
Even more comfortable and plush than the original, the Swiss-designed Megamat Max 15 Duo LW+ from Exped will take sleeping outdoors to a new level.
This mat features 15cm of air-core channel foam, a 50 denier stretch top fabric, 3D constructed vertical sidewalls for edge to edge comfort, an R-Value of 10.6, inflate and deflate valves for an easy set up, and a mini pump for top ups - so it will be a luxurious addition to your sleeping set up.
Is this the most comfortable camping mat on the market? In this video, our gear expert Ben puts it to the test.
He starts out with the sizes available in the range, the packed size, bag that it comes in, then moves on to the materials and construction and shows you how the valves work. Then he demonstrates how comfortable it is by lying down and then shows you how to adjust the comfort and softness without sinking and hitting the ground.
Ben finishes up by showing you how to use the included mini pump, and tells you the best way to store it when you’re not using it - so check it out above for all the details.

Bought Megamat Max Duo 15 LW ar REI yesterday for $105 from the garage sale area that was still factory rolled. “Reason for return said”I don’t like camping”. Tested it last night and was shocked they had never even unrolled from factory. REI does not do their typical garage sale so they just through stuff in the garage sale area of the store daily.

After being amazed by the exped 10 duo I decided to also get a single mat. And after much consideration thought: might as well go for the 15 max for (hopefully) ultimate comfort. Because of the price I was a bit anxious that it could not live up to it's promise. But oh man, its the best! Like sleeping on a cloud, if that would be possible. Just don't panic like I did over the sides staying quite flat during the proces of getting the memory foam sort of reset the first inflation. Help it along with the pump after a few hours. Leave it be for 24 hours and then smooth sailing from there on out. At least in my experience 😊

How does the Exped MegaMat Max do in the summer? Is it too insulated to be comfortable to sleep on in warmer temps?
@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Wiley. While we commonly relate insulation of mats to keeping us warm, they can also have the same effect in insulating against warmth. If you happen to set your tent up on hot ground, these will resist heat coming up in the same manner as they would insulate against cold coming up too. They will still maintain warmth against your body though, and an airbed will be cooler in that it will allow your body heat to escape the the air void below. To summarize, they are much the same as your bed at home when it comes to summer sleeping. ~ Ben

This would be our warmest self-inflating mat, Mel, it has an R-value of 10.6 tested under the ASTM F3340-18 standard which was released in the last 1-2 years I believe. I hope that helps. ~ Ben

For my purpose, it's not worth it as a 10 cm mat is an upgrade from my usual 3.2 cm anyway. But for anyone starting out camping who has only slept on a regular mattress, the extra expense may be long forgotten after a good night of sleep on the outdoors. ~ Ben

Hello! Great vid. Just have a question- around the 4:50 mark of this video, you get into sitting on the mat in the middle and bouncing around, it looks like the whole mat kind of moves and bounces with you. Do you think this mat is ok for couples? Specifically a feisty wife who gets angry when the husband tosses and turns a little bit on our current mattress causing her to bounce a little bit? (We have a basic queen sized air mattress which great as long as you’re the only in it! Lol )
@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Loops and Doodles. These mats certainly don't have the same inner spring technology as the mattress you have at home. From my experience with an older double 10cm Exped mat, as one person moves, the air in the mat moves and the other person will feel it. It would probably be less noticeable in the MegaMat Max 15 though as you have more adjustability in the pressure of the mat, but I reckon your partner is still going to get frustrated with your restlessness. You could consider two singles, if you have the space that is. The square sides means they sit reasonable close together, but it will mean you can toss and turn all you want without disturbing your wife. ~ Ben

Thanks for a likeable workthrough....searching for such a mat wit 100cm width, find 70-80cm too small, never understood why manufacturers find this a good size for a single mat. Tents are wider...
@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
I think it has just been adopted as a standard, 69indigoeblue. Hiking tents usually only fit two mats of around 50-60cm in width, so I guess moving to 80cm for regular camping tents is a big step up from that. But if you've got the room to spread out then why not use a wider mat and make things super comfortable. ~ Ben

I've seen 2 videos now where they say to store Exped mats flat (as opposed to packed up) because that makes it quick to set up next time you go camping. I don't understand, are they saying that you're just gonna haul the mat into your car all expanded like that? Obviously you have to pack it up first. Maybe they are saying that storing it flat will help it memorize it's expanded state so that the next time you inflate it, it inflates faster.
@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
Correct, Alex. When I refer to storing the mat I am referring to storing it at home for long periods. For transport you would be best packing it up first. Then, when you get to camp, the mat will inflate faster as the foam has spent most of its time in an expanded state i.e. its memorized state. ~ Ben

It isn't discontinued, Yeh Nah, it's actually relatively new and has so far proven to be popular as we sold through our first shipment. Anyone who sells this in Australia is getting them through the same supplier, so we'll all have them available again at about the same time. Unfortunately with all the happenings in the world at the moment there are a lot of issues with manufacture and supply of product, it's likely that the delay goes right back to the factory. If you definitely want one I'd suggest you get in early, the February date is the latest info we have and these eta's keep changing on us at the moment. If you don't secure one ahead of time you may find that we are out of stock again as all the stock we did get will go to pre-orders first. ~ Ben

Thanks for the kudos, STIXSURVIVAL. By our measurements the sleeping area of the stretcher is 193L x 130W cm, whereas the mat is 197L x 132W. I reckon you'd squeeze it in but keep in mind that given the sloped walls the mat will be pressed hard against all sides and the available length will be reduces a little as you will be sleeping higher up in the stretcher. I reckon a 10cm option would be a better choice. ~ Ben

@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
I don't recommend trying to get it back to the size it was when first purchased, Guarav, it's likely that the mat was initially rolled with some mechanical assistance at the factory. It's not a quick process either, make sure you allow time to roll it at least twice to get it down to a manageable size. I'd suggest that you aim just to get it back in the bag, if you are managing this then you are doing well. ~ Ben

So do they recommend not storing the pad in the carry bag? When you say 24 hours. before the sleep pad will be most comfortable, that sort of implies your first night of camping the pad won’t be at its best. ? I’m thinking of getting the 15 long wide.
@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 3 ай бұрын
24 hours from new, but if you are able to store it inflated then it should be ready in 10-20 minutes with minimal extra air needed to reach the desired firmness. If you store it compressed it will take longer to inflate by itself as the foam develops a 'compressed' memory and takes longer to expand. You can pump air in it to speed up the process, just be careful not to over inflate it if you are using an electric pump and be prepared to burn a bit of energy you use a manual pump. ~ Ben
