I am stoked to follow along on this build! I used to be a paramedic, mostly used Horton boxes with my agency, but we had a few others scattered about. The emergency light controller is a synchronizer for the lights so they don’t cause seizures or other issues. I don’t know how much the wheeled coach modules from the 90s are worth, but I remember the modules that we had in the Horton units was about 8-10 grand to replace. I would definitely look into it, selling it might help cover some of the costs! Also, you can donate the oxygen wall valves to any local ambulance agency or fire dept to use as spares, those things are universal and do get beat up. Lastly, the big plug from near the inverter is a quick attach for jump starting the vehicle, those can be mounted in the grill or bumper and can make jumping your rig or any other vehicle super quick

You should keep those lights in the back to light your camp site just led convert them so you don’t have to patch the holes

Those plugs on the back of the inverters are quick connects. They work great for quick connections in a pinch. My father uses them on his snow truck and loaded fleet for jump starts and small engines like pumps.

So I just wanted to say, your videos are excellent and I admire your passion for the builds, the 7.3 Ford engine, Milwaukee tools :), and your commitment to research and quality work. Well done. If more young people had your drive to learn, work hard and grow, the future would look brighter for many.

Dang! Nice work. I’m doing a wheeled coach too (e450, 1998 a later year, judging by the door handles) - and it’s interesting to see how different the construction of the corners is compared to mine. Welds are still crappy, but they beefed up the structure. I love that old switch panel - I’d happily take it off your hands if you haven’t thrown it away yet

This demolition looked like a lot of fun to do. I'm an EMT on Long Island and the Agencies that I was with all used Braun Ambulances, which is the ambulance you showed rolling over in the beginning. They're the best Ambulance manufacturer's in the US, but their ambulances are much more expensive, but you get what you pay for. Wheeled Coach, Demars, Horton are all cheap crappy Ambulance manufacturers. But it's also really cool for someone like me who is used to seeing all the equipment inside the Ambulance and then looking at the interior gutted. Anyone who rides an ambulance for a job or volunteer never see the "guts" of the inside of the truck. I can't wait to see how everything comes out with this build. Excellent job by Remy too.

I'd keep the 450! Then you will already have a chassis already and need just a box for the next one! Also, keep one of those air tanks! Put an on board compressor. Just have the compressor maintain the air tank. And then run ports for air by the tires. Just an idea. In case tou really want to go in the backwoods! Or help someone who has a flat. Also keep some of that wire. Can be used for wiring your layout. Just trying to think of keeping costs down. Can also use the wire for the chassis wiring as well. Keep the chrome exhaust covers. Can use them with in-line fan system to exhaust for above the stove.

The only reason I don't like Ford trucks is because of how the drivers set and steering wheel are arranged so close together. I can't get far enough away from the steering wheel. I like my wrist to rest on the wheel with my arm almost fully extended, and I can't achieve that in a ford. At least not any that I've driven.

When looking for a truck to convert, do you think having 4x4 or a pass-through already built in is more important? Which one would be harder to add do you think?
@AltBoomer
@AltBoomer 3 ай бұрын
4x4 would be significantly more mechanical and financial effort. If 4wd is important to you, that should be a prerequisite for the vehicle you purchase. Compared to basically cutting a hole and adding accordion boot. IMO. Personally the ability to crawl into the cab from your living space is further down the list of importance, unless you’re taking the vehicle somewhere with very aggressive climate, having to get out of the truck is not worth the trade off of losing insulation where the door and boot is. Plus remote start is probably cheaper anyway haha.

Well if what you said about Cummins Motors is true I guess it's a good thing that Dodge didn't have anything to do with the building of those engines we can all thank Cummins for that but then again Dodge puts Cummins Motors in their trucks because they don't know how to do diesel engines and they needed to compete with Ford and Chevy

James, I have often wondered why the majority of the ambulances used, especially in Tennessee, are made with a Ford build?
@reidcrosby6241
@reidcrosby6241 3 ай бұрын
The manufacturers need to standardize to some extent and Ford = common as pond water. Nearly ALL of the ambos and people movers (buses) in my area are Ford. In the large parts yard "junk yard" a friend owns has 100 Fords, to 20 Chevy/GMC. Dodges non existent.

The only issue I see with your cummins comment is the 12v had very similar reliability to the 7.3L with way less electronics(less things to possibly go wrong) but everything on the Ford Truck makes it 100x better in every way. Good trans, less rust, better body, better interior, good rear end, stronger suspension, stronger frame, quality materials, transfer case, etc. The list goes on and on. There was no justification for a Ram except the 12v with mechanical pump.
