Experience A Cab Ride On Frisco 1630 At The Illinois Railroad Museum

We climb aboard Frisco 1630 for a cab ride as she receives clearance to depart for a trip down the museum's mainline. Enjoy a 4K view of the cab as the 1630's fireman Blake Bushue labors to keep the fire hot on the Russian decapod.

Great vid! Always love cab rides! The large pipe directly under the butterfly makes me think this was originally a stoker engine that’s now being hand fired - was it? 👍🏻

It was. I don’t know/remember the reason they don’t use it but it still has the stoker as far as I know

The steam department still has its stoker, but it has been removed, and from what I was told, it needed repairs, and the crew just haven't found the time to work on it plus the locomotive is just small enough that hand fired is adequate.

From what I've seen IRM does a great stewardship of preserving railroad history. I'd love to visit one day and experience this very locomotive.

Building up fire mass at departure, since the fire had settled down low while sitting. Once it gets going it won't need as much for a little while at least.

would this size of locomtotive not have a stoker fitted. it kind of looks like it does but it doenst appear to be in use

The museum is not open year round. Steam operations end in early October.
