Dr. Manpreet Mundi, a Professor of Medicine in Endocrinology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, Reviews his article appearing in the February 2021 issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings where he notes an association between obesity and childhood trauma. He notes low self-esteem and negative experiences with medical care plays a role in avoidance of treatment. He discusses adaptations to the clinical environment and the way patients with obesity are treated with considerations for privacy and respect.
