Halal is not just about ingredients that are being used to prepare meals but also extends to how they are being prepared...the cleanliness of the kitchen and the preparer...and so muslim restaurants still need to apply the halal certificate since halal could become haram (prohibited) when certain requirements of food preparation are not being satisfied...thus halal is actually good for everybody be it muslim and non muslim

You guys are really addicted to durian! If you drop by Singapore sometime and would like to try other places for Malay food, one place I would recommend is Hjh Maimunah's, I've eaten several times at the Jalan Pisang one but I think there's another (might be the main branch) at Joo Chiat. Love the rice and the dishes and also the desserts. I don't like durian so I have no recommendations but eeeeeeeeh, you guys seem to have the durian stuff totally covered by other people, so it's all good!

You guys managed to get a radio host to give you a tour? Wow, awesome. Why Malay owned restaurant don't need to display Halal certificate? Is it right to assume all Muslim restaurants will or know how to prepare food in a 100% halal way? Chinese people have many dialects - Hokkien, Cantonese, Hakka, etc. But during Mao Zedong's Cultural Devolution, all the Mainland Chinese people were forced to learn Mandarin.

The Malays here are Muslim by default. They already practise Muslim ways of life so naturally they do not need to show Halal certificate because they already are. Of course, it will be questionable for Muslim owned restaurants with a lot of non-Muslim staff but this is always not the case.

Malaysia is largest country than Singapore. These two countries have similarly foods but they still don't have what Malaysia has such as "durians" . Malay people in Malaysia are mostly intelligent, creative and workaholic. Halal cert is more like haccp cert... Its a certification that the premises to be in full halal certified practice. Unless the local city council requires food stalls, restaurants operators operating food suitable for Muslim, to have halal cert... Else some may opt not to do it... Owner maybe non Muslim, but they have the premises fully operated by Muslim staffs, with Muslim friendly meals, most would still assume it to be halal... By sight
