Eating the orange with the peel isn’t the weird part, it’s the fact that they were mad at her for not eating it the way they wanted. Like having an orange eating tradition every week is really cute, but why would they get legitimately upset at her for not biting into it? She still wanted to eat the orange with them and join in on the tradition. So why were they offended for something so minuscule? The fact that her boyfriend was upset afterwards instead of making fun shows it wasn’t a joke
@mlitt19962 жыл бұрын
I agree, people use orange and even lemon peels in many recipes, drinks, etc..I wouldn't be suprised if they are used in many different foods that you buy in the store. So, it's not weird to me that they eat orange peels..one quick google lookup and you can see that it is safe to eat. It's weird and uncalled for they are pressuring her to eat it and mad that she didn't.
@fernandorios4842 жыл бұрын
It's their traditional to bite into it (idk for how long) but she felt uncomfortable so they should've respected that even if it is their tradition. It's understandable for them to be mad but not ok for them to push her to do it and not be respectful when she felt uncomfortable.

I never comment but seeing other comments say the same thing is a relief. it’s very obvious that this guest is being very dismissive and is quick to consider anything and everyone “weird” if she doesn’t agree with it. Some people really do need mental help, but quickly saying it because you simply don’t agree with their actions without considering other possible explanations is dismissive. No other guest has been this quick to judge. But from other episodes, I can tell Morgan is much more empathetic and is careful not to quickly judge. I understand it’s hard to disagree with a guest!

I get that Olivia is 22 but… I’m 22 as well and her thinking about men is a mindset I used to have at 19. A lot of work for her is needed to gain more understanding of how complicated this world is. Nothing is white or black, sometimes things are grey. Arguing with the person to the point of breaking up and then asking them to stay the next day… very not healthy. Very draining. I recommend therapy when it comes to not trusting in relationships, it helped me.

I’m all for hearing new perspectives and opinions but Olivia’s is not one of them. So full of entitlement, privilege, self centeredness, and overall bully vibe. There’s a clear lack of empathy and she just seems toxic. She’s not a good person to be around and you could see the negative impact she has on Morgan. I get Morgan is always trying to be nice to her guests and make them feel comfortable, but she’s indulging in that negativity. E.g. with the orange story. Usually Morgan would be the first to suggest maybe there’s a cultural difference or something. But no just straight up agreeing that it’s weird and wrong. Olivia just isn’t a good co host. No valuable opinions, is very pessimistic, and doesn’t even bother to step outside of her bubble to see stories from different lenses. She might be experienced in life but that does not equate to maturity. Her exposure to life comes from a very privileged background for sure

It would be a perfect, dream love if he would see her as prettiest girl ever, but in my opinion his love is more realistic. He can have issues with her looks but he loves her and being with her brings him happiness. Maybe when he first time met her he said she is not in his type but he later on falled in love with her. His "friends" are real Asholes here. This girl who kept asking seems jealous and entitled. Maybe she had eye for him but he choos girl which she thinks is "more ugly" then her and keep pursuing him. There are lots kinds of love and physical attraction is not what everyone need to feel to fall in love. His words shows that he loves her for other reasons, not only for looks

On the story where the boyfriend had a crush on his girlfriend's best friend before they started dating: I agree with top comment. Stuff like that just happens and crushes don't mean much. He found her attractive but then he got to know OP and fell for her as a whole person. How she looks, how she acts, who she is. He's never tried it with the best friend so I really think that although he might have got close to them because of the best friend, he really genuinely fell for OP. His friends are assholes for telling her like that but I don't think the boyfriend is and neither is OP. She has a right to be hurt and it's fair to lose some trust from it but work on it and build a stronger more secure relationship from it. If he's given you no reason not to trust him before, then trust him now. Honestly, his story adds up, his friends were exaggerating because they were taking the piss out of him

In the world we live in, majority of child rearing goes on the mother, some are lucky enough to have a great, mature partner that helps equally or more, but the sad truth is that more always falls on the mother/wife when a man is involved as the other half of a "partnership". At the very LEAST Women have to carry the child, give birth to the child, if able to or chosing to breastfeed or pump for the child, & a woman needs to recover from all of this mentally & physically & needs their partner to be in tune & able to provide for their needs, which fully includes taking good care of the baby when she needs to rest because she's fuckimg exhausted! She lacks any kind of subtlety when she hears about something, it's only "he's crazy" or "she's insane", there's absolutely no grey area or empathy for a side she disagrees with. And if she's not heard of it before it feels like she's unwilling to engage at all, to maybe consider why someone might do something. I love this podcast and I get so excited when a full episode drops, but it was so hard to make it through this one. Olivia somehow made everything about herself and would go on 5 minute tangents that weren’t related to the story at all - she seemed to just want to talk about herself a lot. And she lacked nuance in her answers and didn’t try to have a back and forth about any of the posts. This guest was definitely one of the most immature I’ve seen. I wish Morgan would stick to her friends instead of trying to get “famous” guests. I’d rather them have real, intellectual, thought out answers to the posts instead of taking a hard stance right from the start. And the tangents. I just can’t. I was waiting for her to stop talking so we could get to the next post. I’m sorry Morgan, you’re the best, but this episode wasn’t it.

Like, I get she’s hurt from being cheated on and she’s young but the amount of negativity from her was honestly super annoying lol. Yes we love women supporting women, but can we not generalize all men to “all men are horny manipulative assholes”? I could totally be remembering this wrong, but didn't Morgan say she has ADHD at one point? I have it too, and I have a tendency to match other people's energy as well, and sometimes in the moment concede to things until I think about it a little more and my mind catches up. If I'm right, I have a feeling this is part of masking--neurodivergent people learn early on that there's something "different" about them, and it's not always good to be "different," so we try to blend in. @@TwoHotTakes Morgan, we all know that some people read these stories and jump to conclusions without thinking too deeply or even attempting to empathize with the parties they dont personally identify with. If you want to sometimes have that kind of person on as a guest that is your prerogative. I just really, truly wish that you would yourself represent a more nuanced and mature perspective even when your guest doesn't. It seems like you have a hard time actively disagreeing with guests you dont know well, even when they are being problematic, and that you often match their energy, even if, as in this episode, that energy is just unnecessarily mean. I understand hosting is really hard and that is an uncomfortable place to be in. Most of your guests and most of your episodes are very good. But I don't think there is anything beautiful about this one. My constructive feedback is this: vet your guests more carefully and/or don't invite someone on if you won't feel comfortable challenging them. It is called "Two Hot Takes" after all. the bf that collects yogurt may have a hyper fixation however it is definitely mixed in with hoarding. filling two rooms of over 2000 yogurt and having no space in your fridge for actual food, not being able to deal with throwing something away when it creates an unsafe environment (can attract pests, bugs, harmful mold etc) is all extreme behavior, goes beyond a neurodivergent hyperfixation and absolutely screams hoarding disorder, even if it’s organized. Hyperfixations can be intense but this sounds like hoarding/OCD behavior on top of any neurodivergent diagnosis he may or may not have. There are safe ways to have hyperfixations and collections but this is hoarding when it is out of control and becoming unsafe. I also think it’s more than just about crossing the girlfriend’s boundaries, even if he lived alone this would be unsafe and extreme for him to be doing with perishables.

That said, I think as a non-white with non-western heritage, hearing the way you both were ready to dismiss certain habits and behaviors as bizarre and mental really just comes off as really western and American especially. People groups across the board have differences that outsiders are not used to. Same for how you approach neurodivergence, though I know Morgan is not necessarily neurotypical. Given the direction the pod has been taking with talking to pros and more mature people, this was kind of jarring. I was entertained especially because of the lighthearted and informal mess of this, but many experiences doesn’t necessarily make someone mature, and immaturity can lead someone to say unintentionally alienating things.

on the orange story: I take issue with this because it comes down to a form of consent. She politely declined and they still pressured and judged her for it. Even if the family were correct in how they ate their oranges and the girlfriend was the weird one, she is still not obligated to eat them.
@milkandhoneyxxx2 жыл бұрын
I disagree and thought I’d provide a different perspective. In some cultures/households it is considered very rude to decline a food without at least trying it. You say there’s no harm to her declining, but there’s no harm to her doing it one time and then saying it’s not for her either. You say that the family judges her for it. Isn’t she already judging them by immediately thinking it’s weird that they don’t peel their oranges, so much so that she vehemently is against eating it? I agree that if she said no, they should have let it rest at that, but I can’t fault them for feeling embarrassed and judged. They were trying to include her and she made it very clear to them that she wasn’t even willing to try. Wasn’t even willing to compromise. You don’t know what culture these people are from or why they eat these oranges the way they do. From my end, it seems the OP of that story is the one passing judgement on others, not the other way around.

Why would you bring someone so mean on here 😕 kinda disappointed. I like when you bring on guests who can actually be thoughtful and expound on the stories and the thoughts they have rather than it being so one note. I get you want a different take but atleast have the person giving it actually have a deeper thought process on their takes than the shallow ones given here. I don't even agree with some of the previous episode takes with other guests but they atleast were able to explain themselves more clearly than this person who seems like they don't want to be here and gives off mean girl attitude. Oh well, guess I just won't finish this episode.

on the orange story: the whole family WEIRD AS FUCK, but saying my family's oranges are better than all other oranges isn't weird, like my flatmates' (twins) family all used to hate olives until they moved into a place that has an olive grove and the whole family raves (not overly, if the topic comes up they'll be like they are amazing they wont like go on and on about it though) about their dads olives and will ask the parents to bring some down to them and i believe they sell the olive oil and locals love it. so their eating habits weird as fuck, but like thinking orange from x farm, in this case his parent's, is great and i'd never eat another because they can never compare isn't really culty, its just normal at least in rural/agricultural places.

I absolutely love two hot takes, but I just couldn't listen all the way through on this one. The commentary was just so cynical and unnecessarily mean which made it an uncomfortable listen and I have to admit, I know a lot of men suck big time, but the section on how men are basically horrible was a bit of a bummer to listen through as a man myself. I really wanted to like it as the episodes of THT recently have been top tier but this episode just wasn't the vibe I'm sorry :/.

I’ll be honest, I love THT and always look forward to episodes every Thursday. However, Olivia did not resonate with me in this episode. From the beginning of her take on the shower socks guy, I knew I wasn’t going to like her attitude. I get that she’s 22, but come on now. She seriously has some growing up to do.

Morgan, you should probably have more insightful guests on the podcasts. It’s a bit insulting to listen to someone that has literally nothing meaningful to say. Not a big fan of Olivia on this one. Still love the show tho!

I could be be completely wrong but number 3 (the collection one) sounds like it could be linked to OCPD, obsessive compulsive personality disorder, (not the same as OCD but more related to obsessions and compulsive issues with perfection and control. I really hated having to hear the guest you had on this. It was annoying to have a misandrist on here when it's hypocritical that men can't be prejudiced against women after getting cheated on multiple times or say as freely as her about "hating" a gender without being called an incel, where she's told "aww." I really found her negative outlook on life annoying and it did not match up with the hosts personality and attitude. "If I get married I know I'm getting a divorce." Seriously? So you want to marry a guy to take half of everything he has then? This girl is red flag city.

i absolutely had to come comment on this video. I was listening to this on my way to work from my podcast app but after the orange story, i HAD to come comment. so, I’m Hispanic and we have lots of “weird” habits and things out of culture. I know in Chinese/Asian cultures oranges are a cultural symbol. I know we don’t have much from reddit because the update was deleted but did you all ever consider it was a cultural thing rather than a “fetish” or just a cute tradition??
@Gloria-dd9sr2 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. Though the family should not have made a deal of it and the girl in the story was right to say no thanks, eating the peel is normal to many people and perfectly harmless. I hate the pith so I mainly have the peel candied if I do but this commentary was needlessly rude at times.

I‘m european, oranges don‘t grow where I come from, but I‘ve heard of people eating them with the peel. I feel like they jugded that habit too quickly, and honestly think they would‘ve judge me for my Balkan eating habits :/

I agree with this. Its common in asian cultures to eat dried orange/tangerine peels as a healthy snack or additive in soups, broths, medicine, etc. I also remember going to a friend’s house who was from russia and their family ate the orange peels raw because it contains lots of vitamin C. Also citrus fruits like lemons are put in whole (peel, seeds and all) into green juiced as long as they are organic for that exact reason. It is rewarding and makes life richer when we are open minded to other peoples cultures and experiences but i guess thats not for everyone🤷🏻♀️

For the yogurt story, I can see both sides to some extent. Me and my fiancé both have ADHD and he tends to hyper fixate on hobbies that can sometimes get out of hand or he will neglect an old hobby that gets cluttered. Me on the other hand grew up with hoarders and get overwhelmed with messes and clutter. The yogurt collection should have been talked about from the beginning (personally I would have brought it up as soon as I saw him put an open yogurt back in the fridge) but based on the story he already took it way too far and I can’t blame her for throwing it away.

Okay, I couldn’t even finish listening I had to chime in on the orange debate! First of all, Morgan, I love you, but not everything has to be a fetish. Second of all, about the story: totally wrong that they kept pressuring her while she refused BUT I kinda get where they coming from. 1) I grow a lot of produce on my balcony and it tastes very different from the store bought. Kale is soft and juicy and not at all hard and fibery, tomatoes have so much more taste to them… My point is maybe their oranges are different, maybe the skin on them is so soft and has a good taste. Maybe it is an entire experience. 2) There are usually more ways than one to eat something and sometimes you can discover so much more to something if you just try it in a different way. Doing your homework sitting on the floor feels better, walking barefoot after wearing shoes for a long time is amazing. This dude from the shower story probably had a wonderful experience showering without socks for the first time! 3) I personally don’t like people who react aggressively to your own traditions. It is honestly very western to dismiss something traditional to someone and call it weird. They grow these oranges! It is their thing! How much love and effort goes into it who knows maybe it has been their family thing for generations, and this person just Ewed this. 4) The peel is fucking edible! It is used in so many ways in baking and making sweets. People literally make jams with it and candy purely out of the peel. It can be hard when these oranges are stored for a long time and also too intense but I bet right from the tree? it might be better. 5) Oranges are juicy and biting into them like that you are sort of uncorking a bottle right into your mouth. You can drink the fresh juice right out of it. It does taste good, it is fresh, fragrant, and overall delicious, and you can spit out the peel part after! To sum up, this girl was invited into something new to her but precious to her bf and bf family, and she spit out all over it pub intended. They shouldn’t have pressured her but their feelings were hurt and it was valid just as her being confused too. Everybody is an asshole here. Okay I’m done.

Literally the last 3 guys I dated had facial hair, including my current partner, and they're the only good guys I connected with and genuinely fell for. What someone looks like really doesn't matter, if you love them you'll find them attractive no matter what. I love my ginger bearded boyfriend and tell him at every opportunity how pretty he is.

i liked her personality and your dynamic, but i honestly feel like Olivia maybe wasn't the best guest to have on for a couple of these stories because she just doesn't know what she's talking about. and that's not to be rude or say that all of your guests must be professionals but there's a line of giving an unprofessional opinion and just being kinda downright mean. id love to see her on again, just maybe with a subject matter she knows more about. not trying to be disrespectful to either of you at all, im sorry if any of this comes off like that. edit: i tried being as nice as possible but yeah after reading recent comments i would have to agree that she just isn't a good co-host at all. i think the way she said nobody should ever date that one guy spoke VOLUMES on her outlook on life. she very clearly was the mean girl in highschool. i think before she's ready to be doing things like this she needs to learn how to empathize with someone who isn't a white cis neurotypical woman from america. i love this show and watch it all the time but i could barely get through this one. please do not have her on again especially if you'll be discussing stories that differ from her perspective because clearly she lacks the maturity to understand said perspectives.
