Dreamcast was so special man. I got one for my 16th birthday on 9/9/99! I'll never forget the first time the whale chased me in Sonic Adventure, the first time I played Shenmue and feeling like I was transported to Japan, the first time I knocked someone off a building in DOA2, and my first play through of Skies of Arcadia. I spent most of 10th grade in shop class playing VMU mini games. Though if I had to pick a favorite memory, it would be playing Phantasy Star Online with my friends. Thanks for the video. I've been playing dreamcast recently on my M2 Mac and the experience in Redream is amazing! Keep up the good work, subbed!

Yes! I've played every mainline game console and Dreamcast will always be my favorite. Phantasy Star Online is what completely blew my mind - a real-time MMORPG in the year 2000!? I almost couldn't believe it was real and I got totally addicted - I played PSO almost non-stop for months, getting little to no sleep on school nights, and I continued to play it often for years with Version 2 and later Episode 2 on GC. Then as you say, there was Shenmue which almost seems more like a memory of me actually being in Japan in the 80's rather than a video game. Playing 4 player tag team DOA2 with my buds was so much fun! Being able to play Soul Calibur at home instead of at the arcades was amazing. Sonic Adventure was really impressive, Jet Grind Radio was super cool... there's just too many great games to name! Dreamcast was just all about fun and it struck the perfect balance of everything for me. Even though I eventually got and enjoyed the PS2, GameCube, and Xbox, I was always annoyed that most people bought into the hype of the PS2 and wouldn't give Dreamcast a chance, and they mostly just went for the PS2 because "It's gonna play DVD movies and have the Emotion Engine maaan!"

@@TynologyGamingI was bummed out too until i really thought about it more. That generation of consoles was really the last generation that truly mattered because almost right after that every console was just a PC, with little to no indivituality or look to the games. The only timeframe where we could have really benefitted from a Dreamcast 2 would have been a more powerful version of the system at the time of PS2 launch, so we could have continued to have an even larger DC library, with even better graphics and none of those planned DC releases would have not spilled to the Xbox, PS2 and GC. But really the DC game library is so incredible i have never lost sleep over it. From PS3 and PS4/PS4 Pro era most games suffered from either low resolution, low framerate or just poor visuals and i think that was a really awkward period because no game really felt perfect. And the current generation wouldn't benefit from a DC 2 at all. It would just split the playerbase. If you want a real Dreamcast 2, build a PC of your dreams and use an Xbox controller because the basic layout was copied from a DC controller. It plays all new and old Sega games and most 3rd party games :) That way you are in charge of how far ahead of PS5 and Xbox S X you want your Dreamcast to be :)

@epicon6 Жыл бұрын
@@chrisfern4699 Yeah i would have loved living in that alternative timeline where that happened :) There was also a shift in the business that the cost of making games increased considerably as well as in all aspects of the business, so basically only billion dollar businesses that don’t only rely in the games business could continue making consoles, and Sega was never built in that way. And even Sony and Microsoft have struggled making profits ar times. Perhaps Sega could have partnered with some large company to help fund them but the PlayStation 1 and Sony were way too strong at that point. Microsoft got into the game by being a large trusted company with the funds to do it and by launching after the PS2, so people could clearly see it’s more advanced than the PS2.

newer soul caliburs have those power levels, and unlocked mode... missing the original combo moves where each action you do continue to buildup in power to an ult instead of just a button after working up ki. where all since even SC2 you do a chain combo or half a chain it doesnt do any moves except the 1 move. which is kinda sad. so the idea of the game works best in old arcade and on dream cast only with the first game. as i remember doing 3 ivy combos and after if you did it right, she would do a dark harvest. was the best thing ever. where dream cast had the better response even over the arcade unit.

I got my first Dreamcast very early on at the start of the pandemic. I have successfully installed the GDEMU on my personal console, but the one at the club sits unmodified still. I love how the Dreamcast is very arcade-y, but it also offers some deeper gameplay in other games. I'm not entirely sure if the more "superficial" gameplay hurt Sega. Then again, Sega was doing a lot of experimental stuff. Seaman is played with a microphone. Typing of the Dead is a zombie typing game and I love that. I always look at Gen 6 as 3D games really coming into their own. I absolutely loved my N64, and the Playstation was great, but now we play them and we have to do a lot of explaining about the low poly counts and butt-ugly aliased pixels of those consoles. Gen 6 things look like what they're supposed to look like, and the graphics hold up.

Dreamcast games are definitely best played on original hardware... But I would argue that it's best to play them on a CRT TV with RGB Scart. Or even better; A CRT PC monitor through a Dreamcast VGA adapter/cable. You have these two major differences with these two options. - CRT TV with RGB cable: The Dreamcast renders at 720x480, but it super samples the image down to a progressive 720x240 causing a very sharp, yet extremely stable image without any sort of "jaggies".. This is what makes the image quality leaps ahead of the PS2's flickering 480i output. - CRT PC monitor with VGA cable: The Dreamcast renders at the native resolution, but the shadowmask of the CRT (like on the TV) causes pixels to appear much rounder compared to a modern flat screen, however, you get double vertical resolution. The downside is that not all games support VGA output. Out of 295 games only 16 games aren't compatible. This is true for HDMI adapters as well as they use the VGA signal. Anyway, you can still play the Dreamcast on a modern display, but it won't look authentic, it won't looks as clean and sharp as it did back in the days.

I pre-ordered this back in 1999, I remember that I paid $212.99(tax, so that 199.99 isn't quite true sadly..)I also was aware that there was an issue of pressing GD-ROMS was there, so I went thru 4 Sonic Adventures, before I decided on NFL 2K(with the best Minnesota team ever)and got Sonic Adventure later. I've been trying out Dreamshell via Serial Port, but the route you are showing (ODE)is something I will probably do someday. After using a VGA Box I got a HDMI adapter, works great! And some of my favorites I own is: Bangai-O, House of the Dead 2, Zombie Revenge, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Snk Vs Capcom, Cannon Spike, Confidential Mission, Crazy Taxi, Dynamite Cop. It was my birthday yesterday (May 10)I turned 44! Anyway love this video. Dreamcast is great! 🖖🎮😊Marcus

@@TynologyGaming don't kick yourself. VF has always held a higher bar to admission - namely a stricter command input standard. I won't say it's easy, but all it requires is a bit of dedication. Roughly 15 hours of dedicated play to adapt to. It's worth it, as it will make you a better gamer overall, and it's satisfying. I recommend getting a quality fightstick, dedicating the 15 hours of adaptation, and playing Akira. It will...change you. HMU if you decide to give it a go, I'd love to hear about your success.

The Dreamcast moved me from a PC gamer to a console gamer. I went PC during the SNES and Genesis. I had felt PC was the best way to game. Whether or not that was true, the Dreamcast turned my head. This was a $200 machine that rivaled a lot of the computers on the mainstream market at that time. It brought the World Wide Web to the home that might not have been able to afford a PC at that time. Online multiplayer games. Network equipment got really expensive. It was difficult to play network gaming. PC gaming was expensive because there was always something that needed an upgrade or a game that just wasn't compatible with a system. Again the Dreamcast made plug-and-play a reality. There is a whole list of reasons why I felt the Dreamcast was better than PC gaming of that time, but these were the reasons that your video invoked in me. I share your enthusiasm and love for the Dreamcast. Out of spite it would be a few years before I would own the PS2.

Couldn’t agree more. I had a decent PC but getting “accelerator cards” back then was expensive with mixed results as well. I had my DC hooked up to my computer monitor and remember being blown away with how much better it looked. I’m glad I was able to bring back such fond memories

The Dreamcast was my very first home console. Despite I wanted a PS1 my uncle got me this one not knowing it would be such a HUGE part of my childhood and early teens. I remember I played the demos for Tomb Raider IV and Sonic Adventure (which came included on the box) for months until I finally got my hands on the real thing. A year after I got mine, Sonic Adventure 2 came out and it was a moment I would not forget, as I live in Latin America and back then imports weren't a thing as they are right now. So I waited and waited until I finally got me a copy of SA2 and I fell even harder for this console. I remember taking my VMU (clear blue) everywhere with me with Chao Adventure, and I couldn't believe how big that tiny little world was, fitting inside that memory card. Some of my all time favorites are Jet Set Radio, which I can't wait to meet back again in the near future, Fur Fighters, Soul Calibur, Dead or Alive 2, Sonic Shuffle (yes, the Mario Party rip-off by Sega), Shenmue II (it was the one I found down here), Phantasy Star Online (I remember waking up at 6am to play some of this before going to school), Metropolis Street Racing (it was one of the most impressive games I had laid eyes on until that time), Skies of Arcadia (which I'd love to see Remade or Remaster) and of course, the others that were in other consoles, like Tomb Raider and Resident Evil 3. Great old days, I hope to have my own "new" Dreamcast to upgrade and relive those old times once more. Thanks for sharing!
